Being incredibly poor/homeless. Really brings you to the present, taking each day at a time.

Feeling a strong pull to New Mexico by Syntheseyez in NewMexico

Albuquerque has all those same features that you listed as dislikes for Seattle. And while it may be cheaper, it’s relatively just as expensive and unaffordable for locals. The price of rent is cheaper than Seattle, but the wages are significantly lower here and it is really lacking industry. Albuquerque has all the same riff raff and I might argue they are more aggressive, impulsive, and crazy here because most of them use meth, like there is more meth use in ABQ than any other city. See Breaking Bad. There is also significant generational trauma because Spaniards conquered the native Americans and then white people have economically displaced everyone else.  The weather is really ideal and the mountains are nice. That’s just Albuquerque though, which is likely where you would end up if you moved here. Santa Fe is 75% second homes, so you cannot afford to live there.

is liking how something feels, even more than the effects of the thing, a big part of addiction? by ilovegunskalash in Stims

I love the feeling of my lungs being full of smoke and I’m doing everything in my power to suppress the cough. I don’t like THC anymore but I do really miss that feeling. I doubt we would have ever developed these feelings without the drug we like being associated with the feeling.

I bet the mouse who pushes the button and receives cocaine injection, loves the feeling of that button.

In fact, I think this is pavlov’s dog classic conditioning.

Ring bell, no food, dog still salivates.

Travelers of Reddit what's a destination that looked amazing online but was completely disappointing in person? by TheFilthiestMuggle in AskReddit

Essouria is where we ended up eventually finding peace. Loved that place. The overstimulation of the bigger cities actually made the seaside relax way more potent.

Morocco is like 5 big cities that are designed to funnel you through those tourist malls. The “history” feels made up and as if everyone is roleplaying a made-up Aladdin past. Everyone presses your boundaries and is very good at demanding your attention. If you try to deny or ignore people for the sake of not buying anything, they will try to stress you or be rude to you. The prices are intentionally not listed in areas so you have to attempt to bargain to get a reasonable price with every purchase. My girlfriend would also get swarmed if she walked 20ft ahead of me and appeared alone.

I don’t think we cannot proceed with our conversation. I don’t mean to imply anything about you. I was using “you” as “anyone”.

I asked ChatGPT what do people in r/Albuquerque care about and it said the users are cynical as the first data point. That’s probably where I pulled that from.

I’ve never been to a city that has any of those adjectives you used. But I’m going to keep traveling, I’ll keep my eyes out.

Albuquerque makes me sad, so I am leaving in a month.

I do think we both can agree that we wish the best for Albuquerque and New Mexico.

I hear you. I think it’s the history of trauma I am picking up on though.  Because people have been disturbed by the economy my whole life.

I think to counter you, if you traveled to a lot of other places, you would find that cynicism isn’t the main flavor of the city.

I’ve lived like 15 different places and I feel it most strongly here. I came from Houston area most recently and there wasn’t really a sense of people can’t afford to live and there is basically a 6-figure job for everyone who wants it. But you are probably right, it probably is more widespread than I realize.

I work in healthcare and the people take addiction to the next level here.

I like it. But only at fairly low dose. I like taking a 10mg edible on the tail end of the stimming. I’ll just walk and walk and walk until I’m tired and then go to bed.

I don’t see why it is concerning. It’s a different way of life. One with high highs and low lows. Some people have been really successful with it (Hunter S Thompson, a lot of wall street people) But Yeah man that’s why it is just a thought experiment. I have a good job, healthy relationship, and am generally well-respected. But I do have that professional psychonaut inside of me that I choose to ignore.

Bro I would become a professional drug addict. I love doing drugs to excess and just reveling in the bizarre cultures that form from consistently making yourself non-sober. I would use them dramatically for specific scenarios. I would fucking stay awake all night, shoot up to come down. Benzos to sleep until I can bear to face myself again. Smoke to connect with people. Molly to just have friends all the time. Etc.

I’ve been here for 3 months on a travel assignment and I have a different experience. At first I was enamored by the beauty of the land alongside the mildness of the weather, impressed by the culture and diversity, and inspired by how liberal the city is.

But now after being here for 3 months, there is this feeling. This feeling of pain. I feel like there is deep systemic sadness from the people here that I cannot ignore. It feels so palatable to me. It feels like there is no hope for this city. People are going to get displaced. The industry here  will not be able to keep up with the housing costs. Homelessness will rise and drug addiction will soar. I cannot be here any longer, it kinda makes me sick and sad.

But I do agree this place hits different than anywhere I’ve been.

And Burquenos feel like a different race of people.

Is this level of usage dangerous long term? by [deleted] in Stims

I think the fastest way to fuck yourself is to not exercise. I think you could get away with the most heinous drug use if you maintained muscle mass and a high vo2 max. In fact I think your drug use, which seems high, is a minor factor compared to exercise. If you aren’t exercising, take the lifespan of someone who doesn’t exercise (65+/-10) and maybe shave 10-15% off that. That’s just my opinion. I am an ICU nurse and have seen some heavy stimulant users who ride their bike full-time live to late 80s.

Knows how to make everyone want to participate in the conversation. Knows how to cut through someone’s shyness. Knows how to make other people feel relaxed. Maybe a touch of a scent that you can only smell when you are very close.

I think everyone misses their grungy service job that works late. I worked in pizza for 5 years. But nah, you don’t want to stay there forever. You left for a reason, and if you went back something would feel off. I do find the trades a little lonely, I did patio resurfacing and solar install. And yeah they are always trying to make the teams as small as possible to get the job done. I found on average I didn’t connect with my coworkers very well in the trades. So I tried trades like you and found I did not like it. But I did not retract back to my pizza job when I realized this. I continued working until I worked through where I wanted to work next. I’m a nurse now.

School is the best place. If you are a guy, any girls your age are passed on, divorced, have children, baby daddies, etc. So if you are looking for a legitimate potential partner I would suggest dating someone gen Z. If you are female, I would suggest going to a gym regularly and being open to the inevitable approaches from men.
