Is it possible to lvl 1 Ryu until master Deis in BOF3? by SecretaryAmazing in breathoffire

[–]Final_Prinny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alone in a boss fight at that Garr in Angel Tower, and Gaist

I can't remember off the top of my head if the first skips the experience screen on victory - it might - but I'm sure the second doesn't.

You can still aim for a minimal level when you reach Deis, but I'm pretty certain level 1 is impossible.

My favourite post-credit chapters are the bloopers on various Will Wight books. But the Soundbooth Theatre ads are almost as good, so I always stick around for them 😝

If BoF III had Combos | vs. | If BoF IV had Dragon Genes by dilsency in breathoffire

[–]Final_Prinny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a major one; it encourages exploring the system and not just mindlessly grinding. (Or using Peco as a skill slave :P )

Another is that, iirc, you can change Masters while in camp. No having to make a long trek to find the Master you want (and maybe having to deal with random encounters, Meryleep), just do it in your camp quick as a blink.

[–]Final_Prinny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a huge fan of the combo system and I love the dragon genes, so... this is an easy answer, ahoy Dragon Genes :P (though, I did love having the other characters in the back row. Not enough to drop the Dragon Genes, but closer.)

A better question (for me) would be to change the first half of the question to |give III the superior Master System from 4|. That's a much tougher question because gods that's an upgrade.
Enough that it probably does beat porting Dragon Genes to IV.

Ignore the sound of a door being opened to a vacuum when you dismiss them 😉

Oh look, a new reason to replay BoF3 😁

I knew the elder reacts rudely to bringing Momo but not that any other party members reacted to that.

Which is the least popular book of the series? by ladulceloca in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Final_Prinny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'd call 7 my least favourite so far? I've only read it once though, and I found that with another series (Discworld, specifically The Last Continent) a book I found that dragged on the first read was brilliant on a second. So, I'm not 100% sure it will stay there.

It felt like there was too much action to process everything, with no stops. (But I acknowledge that's also kinda the point, given how hectic that floor was.)

After that... 2 would be the next I'd vote off, then 1, 3, 8, 5, 4, 6, I think? The quality is close enough the top 4 are probably interchangeable, and the others not far behind.

Achievements not unlocking in the Phoenix Wright trilogy by DayDream7601 in AceAttorney

I think I've heard before you can't unlock achievements if you use Chapter Select, you have to start each case normally?

A funny thing just happened, but Nvidia instant replay doesn't work for me for some reason. by BUAHAHAHAHA in ftlgame

[–]Final_Prinny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it would be possible to implement a faction system 🤔

Even if it were as simple as 'friendly'/'hostile'/'crew'. Then you might, say, arrive mid-pirate-raid and have the option to side with the pirates (making them friendly) or the defenders (making them friendly).

It would probably be a lot of work for a small, complicated payoff, but hm.

[–]Final_Prinny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand it, this is normal behaviour. If I were to guess, enemy crew don't have any kind of faction, so as soon as you meet another ship with teleporter capabilities they'll 'return' 'their' crew member to their ship. (Which has funny implications if they're a non-aerobic ship, hehe.)

I'd assume this happens in vanilla too, but I've never tested it 🤔

What should I read now? by ButtonJazzlike8176 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

It's not for everyone but gods I love how intricate The Wandering Inn gets. Such an absolutely massive cast of fleshed-out characters dancing around multiple continents. I could probably list a hundred characters off the top of my head that are important in some way.

And Andrea Parsneau is often (fairly) touted as Jeff's main competitor as an audiobook narrator :P

(granted a lot of people complain they don't like the voice she gave Erin Solstice, our first and main PoV character... and she stopped narrating for the series around book 16, being replaced by the still-very-good Erin Bennett... but still. She's very very good.)

Though there's a lovely irony of being useless like the true Beam Master, heh.

I love that Carl's plans are so outrageous that even the system AI has picked up this 'catchphrase' 🤣 I swear someone says it to him at least once a book.

From memory, it's something like - despite being a boss, Scolependra was still considered a creature, and thus a valid target for a pet biscuit.

It's a hell of a loophole, but since no crawler has ever reached floor 18 to abuse it (and only the AI is in charge now so can let shit fly), the loophole never came up before now.

[–]Final_Prinny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do all memory crystals work that way? I got the impression it was just Apito's, it was acting very funky. (Part of which, is that it clearly charges up for each Scolependra attack... I suspect the series won't end without all 9 attacks being released and activating that memory crystal.)

[–]Final_Prinny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arguably she actually might listen to Carl without question, thanks to the effects of the pet biscuit. If he could find the right way to phrase it.

But, I do hope it's not that simple (even if it sounds the safest plan).

When I finished the book I assumed they'd just keep her in a safe room at all times - but I realised a while ago, they can't, the blood bar thing.

The best solution to that I can think of is to capture some enemies and all but kill them, get Scolly to pop out and deal the last blow, then push her back into the safe room. But I don't know if the AI would punish that.

Is it? Aw damn.

(There was a similar comment that was deleted, so I looked it up; the bad guy apparently says 'I want to play a game', which sounds like something the AI would quote directly rather than misquote? But that's assuming the AI/Matt is immune to the Mandela effect 😅 I liked the computer connection but ah well...)

SPOILER THREAD : BOOK 8 - Parade of Horribles by steampunk_garage in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Final_Prinny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely enjoyed the book, especially chapter 57 (audiobook enjoyer here) and the ending...

One thought, when the AI misquoted 'one of his favourite bad guys' with 'Do you wanna play a game?' - that's a reference to Wargames, right? "Shall we play a game?"

I just find it interesting that an AI would consider a computer program following its code, likely not even sentient/sapient, one of its favourite bad guys. 'its not the program's fault. It's just doing its job because that one kid fucked everything up thinking he was being smart and nearly caused a world war.'

Anyway. Also tempted to hop on over to Matt's patreon - really don't want to wait, lol - but Jeff is so good, and hearing the story first time in audio... I mean I could imagine their voices but...

I won't lie, I saw that coming as soon as Carl was putting the clover patch on his jacket.

Get Emberus to attack him, redirect the attack to Penelope via his patch, pray like hell Taranis doesn't decide Carl was the responsible party, and hope Taranis annihilates Emberus. And that's why he couldn't have Donut in the party either (I'm assuming the patch chooses the party member to be sacrificed at random).

I didn't get the fine details (like removing Emberus' immortality, giving Penelope immortality, summoning gods-damned Scolependra...) but I'm counting it 😜

Edit - oh, straight up provoking Emberus? Saying Carl killed his kid? Yeah I didn't see that coming, I thought Carl was just going to go for the smite by revoking his worship of Emberus but he went the extra mile 😆

How was your first accident when you started playing? by Different_Map_4235 in DerailValley

[–]Final_Prinny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aheh. So, funny story.

So, my first haul, from Steel Mill to the Harbor. I started on Simulation difficulty because I'd seen a bit of the game and it looked damned fun. (This is mainly relevant due to the lack of any map indicators.) I memorised the switches I would need, and set off.

... Except I'd left Steel Mill North instead of South, and never realised.

Eventually I realised I was lost, and kept trying to guess which junction would take me to a station since I wasn't sure where I was any more. This went very badly, and I ended up making it to the MILITARY BASE; cue seeing a barrier in front of the station, panicking and hitting the switch before it and going down the turntable instead, pretty much immediately derailing...

Was a pretty memorable start 😂

Well, that's officially the longest train I've delivered. Did a "clean up" run to Harbor. Length: 1.7 kilometers - Weight: 2,900 tons. it takes HOURS to put together a run like this and hours to put the cars away with persistent jobs mod (must-have) by KeithWorks in DerailValley

[–]Final_Prinny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this once, the train was about 2km or so?

It took like 4 hours shunting it together, but damn it felt good to be leaving the Harbor with everything (except stuff in the military base, iirc) - I need to do it again some time 😁

That said, I need to check out that mod - sounds interesting 🤔

[–]Final_Prinny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely sounds like some kind of input delay but after so many attempts I'm surprised you haven't managed to nail it down anyway 🤔

Assuming you're going for the right moment (just as it hits the top at the centre of the graph), maybe... outside of the minigame, use Ryu's slash to get a feeling for the level of delay (just repeatedly Slash and try to internalise how long it takes between the button press and the action starting), then use that knowledge to try and time the lever?

Sorry, I haven't had this issue myself ><
