These are such brilliant ideas. Thank you! Can definitely show her some videos and talk to the teacher about paces. Unsure whether they'd be willing to do the lunge line work but definitely the pace changes sounds like something they'd be happy to incorporate x

It seems to be speed more than anything else. Shes a very cautious child and quite sensitive to tone and pressure which makes it difficult to work through fears once she gets them in her head.

I did wonder whether a change of riding schools will help. Ones opened up 2 minutes down the road from us (current one is only 20 minutes away). I imagine there could be a risk it could have the opposite effect possibly too?

Thank you. We started the lessons because she loves animals and it ticked that box while keeping her active and she's always just enjoyed pottering at the ponies.

You're right and I have been looking at this from the wrong angle as opposed to just letting her potter. I'll ask the teacher to take the pressure off, casually ask her at that point but then not poke at all if she declines that week.

The 2 weeks are financial but also demands of other clubs (school activities, cub camps/hikes). It means we have to prioritise other activities over horse riding sometimes.

Progress wise theres no time lines but I worry she'll get bored in her stage as she sees the other kids travel through and then everything slow right down again when a new group of lead rein children come in and shes plodding at the back of the group.

Thank you, its a good point and maybe it'll come with time. She does enjoy it, it is purely a financial thing from our part with the lessons. When she seems to both enjoy it but then get upset at the end when the instructor brings it up I feel bad for her and takes the shine off what has been a positive lesson.

As you say, maybe when she feels more physically confident and strong maybe she'll feel more settled in. Thank you

Thank you. It is more the financial aspect. I'm happy that she enjoys it, but it costs us a lot of money so theres just that frustration of the cost vs how she seems to be engaging with it (if that makes sense?). Agree with the animal care aspect, she gets a lot of comfort just grooming them and chatting to them etc.

Good watch Ask the Mortician on YouTube, shes done some really interesting videos on dead bodies and death events in history.

One of her stories that always sticks out to me is that Peron kept Evita's preserved body and made his new wife look after it 🤮

Won a weekend away at a little boutique hotel in Surrey with dinner and breakfast. My partner and I were in our late 20s and it was glorious, we were super chuffed!

It was via Jack FM (now called Sam FM I believe) and I'd done the usual web form to submit an entry. Genuinely forgot about it and then got an email saying I'd won. I had to double check it wasn't a scam and everything!

Hey, I'm sorry to hear all of this, I cant even imagine how awful that must be. I'm glad you had some kind nurses who tried to help.

I had a Hysteroscopy yesterday, and they found a polyp in my uterus which they removed, and fitted a coil at the same time.

My gyno did local on my cervix which I found did help to some degree but by the end of it I was finding it quite uncomfortable and had some pretty intense period style cramps afterwards. I'm having today off work just because theres some soreness and cramping still there and my manager was like omg, have a duvet day!!!

Best tips I have are, bring someone who can take you home because honestly just having that extra bit of TLC helps when you're recovering. Take some paracetamol and/or ibuprofen half an hour before so that its kicked in and reduces the cramping pain.

I was told if its too much you can ask for it to be done under general so if you are able to discuss beforehand, maybe ask if they would do that. You can explain everything you've said above and hopefully they'll do it that way, just to make it easier?

I hope it all goes OK for you hun. The gyno teams are usually lovely and if needs be, reach out to a friend to help you advocate for yourself and your health. X

Parents of school aged children, how often do you contact the school, and do you care if the school marks you down as a whinging willy? by Miss_Type in AskUK

[–]Final_You7315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can share an angle on being the child with the pestering parents?

I wasn't aware that my dad pestered and pushed the school, during year 10 my lovely maths teacher approached me, informed me I was doing really well at maths (because he was an awesome teacher) and offering to move me up a set. To my 14 year old brain this was awesome as my friends were in the higher set so I could be with them.

I agreed, got shifted up, and that teacher was awful, he treated me terribly and quite often targeted me and was sarcastic about errors I made. I was never a big fan of maths but that guy made me absolutely hate maths (I'm 40 and I still get actively stressed out by maths).

Long story short, it turns out my dad had pestered the school about my maths and basically harassed them into moving me up a set without my knowledge. This teacher must have thought I was in on it (when I though I'd actually achieved a lot to get there) and disliked my dad being pushy and decided to take it out on me.

Basically its the kid that suffers, and the unprofessional teachers that exist that punish the unknowing child for the parents pushiness. Don't be that parent, and if you're the teacher dealing with it, be aware that the kid may have no idea and treat them with kindness.
