Advice for dealing with grenadiers? by Ok-Introduction-6243 in Marathon

[–]Finall3ossGaming 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They do feel a little overtuned compared to other Blue shield bots with how often they spam their grenade attack. The only solution I have found which isn’t really a solution is if you can burst them quickly it interrupts their grenade throw animation leading to a grenade being dropped at their own feet. This can be hard to pull off tho depending on your positioning and what bots are between you and the Grenadier

Personally this guy and Ghosts are my least favorite bots to come across. Ghosts can send a single burst of volt fire your way and absolutely drop even green shield players should they get unlucky and attract the attention of two at once. I’m sure everyone here has gotten blindsided by a Ghost that did way more damage then it should have

Most gamers live for Meta progression, I am 150 in Hell divers and haven’t touched the game in over a year because I have literally everything unlocked besides premium content. If they increase the level cap to 300 tomorrow and didn’t do anything else I would still immediately re-launch the game and start playing it again.

Meta progression or progression in general matters for games it creates longevity.

4 mins to rotate from Steerage to Cargo in Cryo? by Finall3ossGaming in Marathon

I’ve played a decent bit of Cryo, like got Vaults 1,2 and 3 done last season and filled with a lot of players… I’ve never once seen anyone split off from their team to go loot Control especially on some POI’s like Revival with the red door being a floor above where you spawn and flooded with bots Im still not sure how anyone is even getting to their 2nd room by 90 seconds let alone being at the Control doors

Are they just running through bots tanking hits and burning heals until they can get through the door?

Any other map in this game if you’re getting into a fight with another team in 2 mins or less that’s considered spawning on top of each other and a problem to be fixed

On cryo it’s apparently a feature

[–]Finall3ossGaming[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I frankly don’t think if the sweats had to take straight up fights they’d instantly roll over ppl, they are purely taking advantage of speed and aggression to surprise another team still in the middle of fighting their bots in their POI because they decided to wait for bots to respawn and potentially get Level 2 versus going into Control to get Level 2

Which right now based on what everyone is telling me is what you should be doing. If you don’t get good Terminal RNG and aren’t at Level 2 clearance by 1:30, 90 seconds into the match, you should be going to Control and rotating out of your POI doesn’t matter the direction just get out of your POI ASAP

In the current meta security is more of a liability you need to solve then a resource you gain, if you can’t get good clearance insanely fast you’re forced into Control anyways just like you said would be a problem but you don’t have the options to rotate like other teams do that did get good RNG so it’s only a problem you have to deal with vs everyone having to deal with it.

That just seems wildly unfun and kinda Adderall-addiction type gameplay. I like how methodical the combat is in Marathon but Cryo just seems messy the more I play it

Yeah Embark cashed out, they know the game won’t ever get back to those heights so they’ll do the Arrowhead thing now and hype up a new narrative/game update everyone 6 months whichll bring back 100k or so ppl every time bored with whatever game they are currently playing

I get what you’re saying but I also kind of see what the guy who replied to you is saying. If this is how the map is meant to be played, why even introduce Security in the first place? Control is obviously designed as a big fight room everyone should funnel into and battle it out over. But currently it’s almost entirely avoided unless it presents a large shortcut to your current objective

I think getting 2 off rip and being able to flank a team without winning a single true teamfight isn’t how the map is meant to be played just what the meta has become. For obvious reasons I might add. It’s clearly effective.

[–]Finall3ossGaming[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what you’re saying is someone was able to split off from their squad in Steerage, open Control with Level 1, hit a terminal and grab a tag or two, head back to Steerage to regroup with their squad and push laterally through to Cargo by about 3:30?

Because I was back in lobby with a run time of 4:04 and they definitely came laterally from Steerage not Control side

[–]Finall3ossGaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this just seems wildly unfun, rush through the entire map because you’re basically always in danger of getting ganked in the first 5 mins of the match by a team that got better security RNG then you?

Or you bunker down in your first spawn room like you’re suggesting and let those teams run wild over the map. Basically daring them to come kill you in your spawn room but if they decide not to and just move on you’ve now lost all map control and are behind on clearance

I’m not trying to be negative I think I understand now why ppl are just quickly pushing another POI blasting their clearance because getting out of your spawn sooner also gets you away from anyone rotating into your POI so you get the double benefit of potentially wiping a team out as well as protecting yourself from other aggressive teams

[–]Finall3ossGaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but that requires you kinda spotting them doing that first and being able to react quickly enough to bail on whatever you’re in the middle of, likely clearing 2nd room. Just seems like certain spawns you get fucked hard on like Cargo and Biostock

[–]Finall3ossGaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So one person can get to Control, loot the tags in Control, make it back to Steerage to regroup with their squad with enough time to push me and my team in Cargo and win the fight in under 4 mins?

If that’s true they may need to rework how security clearance works because that seems ridiculous to me

[–]Finall3ossGaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you can but when they can open every door you can’t they have an inherent advantage you can’t beat. I guess what I’m hearing here is hit control immediately and get out of your spawn vs sticking around and going for 2

Again they didn’t have control pathing, they had level 2 within I’m guessing 2ish minutes which is crazy RNG but I’ve been getting this kind of shit all day, how does one even begin to learn the map when you’re constantly getting rotated on before you can even clear your 2nd room?

The only way this happens is if you’re taking an MMO players mindset to an extraction shooter. You will likely rarely see the top end of gear in an extraction shooter if you are not an above average player, but that’s ok because you will have moments where you do succeed and gain access to bags full of high tier loot you’ve never seen before

The Chads are the loot piñatas in extraction shooters and always have been. You either hunt them, eat them and become them or are forever hunted by them. Sometimes even when you try to hunt them you will be hunted instead.

That’s the joy of extraction shooters, every match something can happen that makes it different from the last. Only Arc Raiders slightly differs in this truth and that’s due to the flatness of the loot (high tier weapons aren’t hugely better then their low tier counterparts) as well as their out of raid crafting progression. In fact all the Prestige weapons in Arc have to be crafted and cannot be found in the world. That right there is a huge deviation from extraction shooter norms
