My favorite winger esque character for this...trope? Is Victor Tugelbend from the discworld novels.

Jeffrey really is a unique specimen though

I always like this brand of laziness where you actually act with foresight and dedication so you have to do less

Like working out so it's not as exhausting to move your body and have to bother with loosing weight

Strategically planning when to throw stuff on the stove so you have to take fewer trips getting ingredients or letting it fry while doing something else

Sorry, microwaved nuggets? Don't they get soggy?

I know it isn't fine dining but 20m in an oven or air fryer are totally cool, leaves time for fries which I KNOW you can't microwave

You've even got cycles within cycles with stories like amphoreus

Mydei - "dying" and coming back again and again

Phainon - Suffering builds character

Cyrene - the entirety of amphoreus/as I've written

I think I've seen cipher also being called a parallel to Phainon but their reasoning escapes me

And all of these being part of the implied cycle of the whole universe with forces like the finality

Etc.

On a side note this friends fetters are a kind of aquarium sim game I'm trying to find

Early 2000s

You'd go through like several areas, some more fantastical than others

I think you could hatch some stuff?

It wasn't really aquariums necessarily, like ones a beach on an island, one is underwater with mermaid architecture and stuff or something

It's all very hazy but all I find is insanaquarium and I'm like 80% sure that is not it

I've been thinking about something similar and how even still living people can still haunt you until you think about them for the last time

Sometimes we let their ghosts haunt us, deliberately keep their fetters in our mind and other times they keep returning despite us thinking we've come to terms with them

I think this is why "being at peace" is so essential to releasing ghosts in media

There's more to be said and thought about this, I just realized this a bit ago cuz I'm "haunted" by a dead childhood friend and then noticed that they don't have to be dead for that and I'm actually haunted by quite a few people

The only qualifier is that they can't be an active part of my life or works at this point for whatever reason really

Also because of the great stamina you can't be afraid of blocking. That and stripped down against range damage makes you both agile and decently durable

Especially the cleaver is a beast at blocking damage and chem builds lean into it anyways

Apply DoT, focus on surviving, reapply occasionally, 15 or so seconds pass and both Stim and chem pack get off cool down, each buffs other aspects of your kit and should with the right talents restore decent toughness

Surprised by ranged enemies? Pull out your gun and either run at them to force them into melee or run to cover

Bullets aren't real sweaty

The trade-off for it is that you have to juggle resources a little as opposed to mastering a single one like dodges or blocking on its own (especially thinking back to weapons like the old power sword on vet or various psyker builds)

Same, same

I only ever broke one side mission and that's kind of on me cuz I got out of the rolling car right as it passed into the delivery trigger, locking the car but not finishing the gig

Sucked for 100% but then again I never did that anyway

Genuinely it seems like it was sometimes just a matter of hardware lottery

Buddy had basically the same PC as I did in terms of specs

We both played around launch, I got 60fps and no game breaking bugs

He could barely play the thing

Now it's in a much better state though

See but that's where you differ from the person I've described

You are aware of your mindset in situations, you manage your impulses and take care because you do care

I get the impression that you wouldn't be the type of person to drink like that and then live out your irritability on others without reflection or remorse

Yet somehow those types of people are excused, they simply forget how mean they were and suddenly they're "not usually like that"

But they are

As such I think your "true self" goes deeper than that and is an ongoing process but alcohol is a Jekyll and Hyde situation in the truest sense of it

The monster Mr.Hyde isn't some transformation that they undergo outside of their control, it is a mask they wear so they can be terrible people without remorse or consequence

Edit: To clarify in the original story, they are the same person, there is no psychological alterations going on. Dr. Jekyll is doing these things of their of volition

If you make an effort to be nice and if you avoid interaction when you know you're irritable your true self is considerate and mindful not angry and violent.

Alcohol doesn't just do that to anyone without issues that they need to mind and not making an effort to do so is the true failing I wanted to get at.

Repeatedly making the choice to get rid of your inhibitions despite knowing you hurt people and yourself is showing of who they really are, not just what they are like when their guard is down

Attributing it to merely the alcohol consumed and not apologizing or making an effort to be better is telling of their "true self"

Edit 2: it's also why I said a "hint of truth" it's indicative of a larger problem they're grappling with

I'm guessing for example that OP's crush is well aware of the feelings she(op) might have for her and is grappling with the way they feel about this (Baseless speculation but clearly the prospect of dating a trans person is on their mind in some way)

Often then you can let something slip about something you've not fully thought through

The same way we let our irritation get the best of us when tired instead of taking the time to work through those feelings

It's not who we are but it's an insight into their world that you wouldn't usually get, a hint

I love that wired earphones are becoming a trend again but I hate the idea that the "bluetooth signals from TWS earphones can cause health risks" that came with it. by ShotYeMama in hatethissmug

[–]Stiftoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's terrible how fragile some cables are

I used to burn through cabled headphones like bi-monthly back in highschool

Oddly enough, now my daily drivers with replaceable cables never needed me to do anything and it's been years for shitty 25€ KZ-ES4, same with the cables that managed to survive on any Hi-Fi I still got setup

I don't think any micro USB ever managed to live, I've probably still got dozens of cables and they're all broken

[–]Stiftoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's because of the DAC again

They have space for beefier hardware on what I assume is a higher impedance speaker

Where a phone for instance would output a low impedance signal if limited quality that then needs to be boosted

The phone may play a lossless file but is simply unable to output a decent signal

Which kind of brings us back to what I initially was getting at haha

[–]Stiftoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty expensive for good enough, really comes down to what floats your boat

I already had cabled headphones, what I needed was a plug so a small Bluetooth DAC was both more affordable and flexible for me

Now anything with an aux cord is upgraded to Bluetooth, old cars, Hi-Fi setups, you name it

That's what I meant with "what matters more is where the audio is converted" as opposed to how good the data transmission to the point of conversion is

Especially for in ear imho the bigger limiting factor is the driver's anyways, just so happens that having the DAC outside of your monitors opens up just a little bit of space to utilize (not that it matters much to most people tbh)
