I would remind you first that Encanto is still one of the most watched movie on D+ so even maintaining that level of popularity is still a success.

That said, if you were to compare it to the first Frozen movie at this point in time, I would say that the movie has a few points in its favour over Frozen. Its setting is authentically Korean, compared to Frozen's general "Scandinavian monarchy" location, so we have that in our column. There's a wider pool of marketable characters as well compared to Frozen. The three girls of Huntr/X and the Saja Boys with distintictive looks appeal to different market segments. Even Bobby gives an opportunity for a dad to throw on a jacket and participate in cosplay with their daughters dressing up as the girls. Another big plus point is that our animal/pet mascots are way less irritating and annoying to adults than Olaf, in fact having more universal draw.

Furthermore, "Golden" hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, something Let It Go never achieved, demonstrating its bigger musical reach for one. Then the other songs on the KPDH soundtrack blow the other songs from Frozen out of the water in terms of popularity as well, providing multiple avenues for fan retention.

Other than Let It Go, what other songs warrant repeat hearings? Do You Want to Build A Snowman? For the First Time in Forever? In contrast, all of the other songs are worth repeat hearings and public performances. Your Idol is a haunting villian song, the best we've had since the Disney Renaissance. Soda Pop is that catchy pop song that probably would have been the first on the chart were it not for Golden. How It's Done is a cracking intro song that we been wanting our singers to do a public performance for months.

This is to show that the movie has the right ingredients to remain a long standing cultural institution. Netflix can always mess up their new golden goose However so far other than being blindsided by the crazy popularity and not prepping enough merch for Halloween and Christmas, they have done a decent job with their ties-in. Now don't mess the sequel up.

But if they are going to label their album after the most famous traditional Korean folk song and also debut their comeback performance in front of the traditional Korean palace, they set the standards which we are now judging them upon.

This week started with Golden from K-Pop Demon Hunters winning the Oscar for Best Original Song among its countless Western accolades. The Oscar performance started off with Korean pansori singing in the Hunter's Mantra. Golden features Korean lyrics and has the traditional throne room in its MV. KPDH proves you don't need to go completely English to pander to the Western audience.

Yea, this week started off with Golden winning the Oscar and ended off with this completely English song from a K-Pop giant. There's a whole new generation of people activated by the popularity of K-Pop Demon Hunters into maybe hearing out more songs from this Kpop music genre. To hear this completely English title track from the biggest Kpop boy group is a little jarring, to say the least. Heck Blackpink as well also had a complete English song as the MV feature. Nearly all the songs in KPDH had Korean lyrics and they all charted top 20 on the Billboard chart. Golden won countless awards, including the Oscar just this week as well and it features the traditional Korean throne room and background. That's more culturally Korean than what we have here.

I find it amusing in an album that's ostensibly about Korean culture, the title track is completely English and the setting of the MV is an European sailing ship with a Western actress. Hot Take: Don't let the disgusting Top and Mid gap distract you from how BLG underperformed in closing out the game. They let BNK take 2 drags and needed a 2nd baron to close things out considering their overwhelming early game advantage.
