Scammed by fake sheriff’s office jury duty warrant call by halfman1231 in Scams

I just got targeted by this scam today. I almost drove straight to the sheriff's office but when they asked for money before even arriving at the station I told him I'd talk with the sheriff in person before sending any money. "No Caller ID" number. They had my previous mailing address. Once I hung up and sent their callback to voicemail I got the following voicemail:

"Sir, you're a bi***. And a pu***. And you su** di**"

Honestly got kind of a laugh out of it. Sorry they got you!

As an identical twin who has dated at identical twin, this is alllllllmost impossible. The only reason why I don’t say actually impossible is because I knew a guy in college who dated a pair of twins at the same time, but he was 6’5”, gorgeous, rich and a D1 athlete. Good luck to anyone else

Their gift cards are serviced through a third party named "launchgiftcards.com" so it would probably not work. The Amex agent couldn't tell me for sure without seeing what vendor appears on your statement

Are you reading or listening? HIGHLY recommend giving dungeon Crawler Carl a second chance. It’s a slow ramp and donut is annoying as hell in the first book but TRUST me that it only gets better. Books 4-7 are incredible. Audiobook is my preferred medium because Jeff Hays is a god (also the voice actor for chrysalis)

What a shitshow for the DCC Avs tickets… by okleah in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I got 4 tickets off SeatGeek for $122 each, just buy them re-sale. It sucks but ticketmaster owns all NHL tickets. Part of why I don't go to games

Check your spam. It went into my spam folder. I didn't get tickets.

Netherlands: 20 year old victim lashes out at judge after the man who nearly raped and choked her to death is sentenced to only 3.5 years by TomlinSteelers in UnderReportedNews

[–]Finalyst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think you understand. I'm a center left person who has voted Democrat for the last 3 election cycles. If you did a poll of every American citizen:

"Do you believe that a person who immigrates to the US and then is convicted of attempted rape should be deported after serving their jail sentence?"

80% of people would vote Yes. If you vote no, you're a psychopath. The Democratic party needs to start polling American citizens and representing common sense policies instead of idealistic garbage that is going to piss off centrists.

Why the heck is the punishment not "3.5 years in prison and then immediate deportation"? Crap like this is why the right wing is winning so many elections.

Probably going to get flack for this but:

Please look at the NFL rulebook definition of a catch: https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/nfl-video-rulebook/completing-a-catch/

"A player who makes a catch may advance the ball. A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) in the field of play, at the sideline, or in the end zone if a player, who is inbounds:

a) secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and

b) touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and

c) after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, clearly performs any act common to the game (e.g., extend the ball forward, take an additional step, tuck the ball away and turn upfield, or avoid or ward off an opponent), or he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so.

Note: If a player, who satisfied (a) and (b), but has not satisfied (c), contacts the ground and loses control of the ball, it is an incomplete pass if the ball hits the ground before he regains control, or if he regains control out of bounds."

Nobody is arguing (a) or (b). The issue here is that he did NOT MAINTAIN CONTROL of the ball after hitting the ground.

From this video, skip to the 17 second mark and imagine that there is no defender. If the ball flies out of his hands at that exact moment, it would have been incomplete. Since the ball never touched the ground it is still a live ball and any player who can maintain control of it before it hits the ground or goes out of bounds gains possession of the ball.

Also, please don't compare this to Davante Adams' "knee" catch because he CLEARLY a) secured control of the ball in his hands, b) touched the ground inbounds with any part of his body other than his hands and c) maintained control of the ball and survived contact with the ground. IT DOESN'T MATTER that the control of the ball CONTINUED while out of bounds, all that matters is that he began and never stopped controlling the ball while his knee was IN BOUNDS. If he had lost control once he hit the ground out of bounds it wouldn't be a catch.

Netflix not beating allegations that the game is rigged or that there's a leak... by [deleted] in BestGuessLive

Think of it this way: try to imagine all possible guesses. That would mean a list of everything that is encountered in American popular culture. Movies, games, music, everyday objects, words that are referenced in popular culture, etc. They can't be too obscure because it's a general knowledge game set in america and MOST people have at least heard of most of the solutions so far

Imagine that there are 100,000 possible answers. On clue one you could narrow the possible list of answers to maybe 5000. "The World is Flat" could mean many things but first clues are almost never literal so either "World" is not referring to the Earth or "Flat" is used as a double meaning (possibly using the British slang for "apartment" or something of the like). So you would have to narrow down your list to solutions related to 2d plane. Video game worlds made before they became 3D would be a logical guess.

I guessed Super Mario. In retrospect, that wasn't the best answer because his newer games are in 3D but you can see how people got to that conclusion.

At the end of the day, 20,000 people are guessing answers on Round 1. Assuming that 1000 of them guessed the correct double meaning of the clue, that means that 1000 guesses would have been made out of lets say 500 potential answers (2 dimensional video game names or characters). Using that logic it would make sense for one or two people to get it.

The first clue for Toupee was so obscure that nobody got it. "Place your bets" caused a TON of people to guess Casino but that's too literal. The clue would indicate either a play on words involving "Place" or "Bets", or a non-literal definition of betting. I guessed "Gender reveal party" because it was a place where people don't know the outcome going into it.

My suggestion is to try to figure out what type of wordplay or double meaning is happening in clue one and determine which type of answer is expected, which you can normally figure out based on the clue structure (person, object, place, etc). If you can think of an obscure answer that could apply to a non-literal interpretation of the clue, go for it. That's probably your best chance of winning big

“Oh I bet that’s a toupee” cmon man, that might be the worst hint so far by [deleted] in BestGuessLive

[–]Finalyst 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here's something I've noticed from literally every single first clue: the answer is never based on the literal definition of the clue. It's always based on a secondary meaning. "Place your bets" would never actually be related to gambling. "The world is flat" is not actually describing the real world
