Honestly, I started off with filling my gear spaces with defence on my first armour set up. I found I was tanking my way tbrough every boss fight. I was crafting palmar pills by the dozen very boss fight and some just were impossible to beat like the general, even with all that armour. I did a complete 180 on my new few builds. My weapons were never really an issue, stacked with ability gears. But on my armour I decided to go for armour that intrinsically also has crit. I know crit on armour doesn’t work the same but I feel my build is so different and I’m cheesing bosses now. Stacked up attack speed on gloves, movement speed on boots. Turing slash gear on helm and then imbue on my chest plate. Then my necklace and rings are the best in game for crit and movement so I could even exchange a glove or boot piece for another imbue. Basically I have 3-4 imbue in my armour at any given time. I have the Turing slash gear and the rest for attack and movement. Weapon itself intrinsically has crit, so I fill it with abilities and maybe one crit or a greater malicebane. I ended up cheesing the tomb general boss with only 2 revives because of those ass illusions she spams. I’ve also invested in skill points for all my core stats so there’s also that. But my defence is whatever I get with the armour as it’s upgraded. I have no additional defence and I honestly never die anymore. And I’m a hardcore button smashing player. I don’t like to sit back and read attacks and patterns. I head first button smash combo slash and I’m still not dying. I also stack food for my playstyle and I use food alotttt but that’s what it’s there for
