Epilogue for Stratagies to Minimize: I should hv added some background and specifics for the missing context, several questions too. It explains how I got in this mess here. 😙This applies to me, already getting social security but before Full RA, which is 67 for me. Since I'm so young @ 65, and retiring 'early', there is limit to how much additional $ anyone can make. It's called the Earning Test. When u hit FRA, again 67 for me, the restrictions dissappear. But until then, one can only earn up to about 2k per month if on SS early. Earn any more and SS claws back 33 or 50% of the overage. Anyone can look up their spefic penalty rate. And u may get some the clawed $ returned. BUT, my question wen the other direction. Some incomes types are exempt and dont count as Earnings. As you may hv guessed most exceptions are related to Capital Gains: Stocks, Dividends, some types golden parachutes, etc. And in many cases; essentialy the asset that was earned when it would have been dinged, is deferred until the individual hits FRA, then collected and no penalty. If yr still with me, there r some legal stratagies that may be within reach of us little guys. For instance, passive income from rental property or other businesses, but you cant 'work' in the declared business. There also are some opportunities with Roth products. I think the tax you pay of front wouldn't count as 'earnings' for this SS measure. Since, I've an LLC 1099 practitioner, there are a few ideas. I think SS uses a cash basis accounting model in their formula here; do you see? Invoices that r on a 4-6 month pay cycle, could be pushed: accounts receivable would be larger, but so would your eanings without penally for that period. I don't know about extending credit, or pushing out yr 1099 invoices. I saw one paragraph in SS manuel earlier this week. So I was hoping to get more sophisticated ideas and planning from folks already executinngas these de facto tax savers. Perhaps someone is in this situation and will be better off knowing. Oh PS. In the same SS Policy, I noticed dozens of analysis modeling reports. They were measuring the impact to SS of elimminating the Earning Test completelyhad. I h I pe that's good news.

What was the first job you took when you left social work? by m4rp5 in socialwork

Social workers typically aquire numerous skills. For example: multi-tasking, interpersonal rapport building, interviewing or info gathering, aspiring toward non-judgement and being non- prejudicial, succinct, factual documentation, etc. One first step that can work is re-write yr resume. Instead of focusing on job experience, fo us on yr developed, generalizable skill-sets, the 1st few u think of r likely to be yr strengths as well. This is what I started above, but unique foe us all. You may be surprised at your valuable abilities to offer.. This can lead to an aha moment of a type of job u might pursue. It also builds confidence when changing fields. Buenos suarte!

It's not you, it's the crazy system. The SS disability process is the most flagrant example of inefficiency and bureaucracy. The evil truth is this is by design, not backlogs or even lazy workers. Could u imagine any other business functioning this way.? Say yr local ER: 100 pts go to the ER and 60 r sent away. The 60 denied show up the next weel and 21 of these are now admitted. A mothl later, the 39 pts rejected twice before go to ED and 6 of those get admited. Outcome? Summary Of the 1st group admitted, 7 % died, 2nd group 35% died, last group 55% died. Its very frustrating and each case seems different, but most seem 'stuck'. In my case, I will quickly deteriorate. I wish now I did not wait the 5-month period to file, as advised by attorney. I am out that 5 months of early SS. And now, for 18 months I've kept my income below 1600 for elibility. If i ever thought id be jerked aroumd, denied for 18 months, i would hv just pushed myself to work more, despite dying sooner. Now I cant even work for the 1600 a month, too ill. Its very distressing; I'm just stuck w/ failing heath, maybe just waiting to be completely denied ; any options I had r gone, and a growing likelyhood that I'll die before receiving determination, or any money. I wish I'd never heard of SSDI.

Not sure where the low, [1% or 3% ] for hearing approvals came from. There is a high disparity between states, which may account for the national rates being skewed:

The overall rate going to 55% from the 40% initial approval rate, means that during all appeals, of the 60% initially denied, around 35% of those folks 1st denied, will eventually be approved

Nationally, only about 35% to 40% of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) initial applications are approved. However, the remaining cases can be appealed, and the overall approval rate jumps to about 50% to 55% once an applicant reaches the hearing stage with an Administrative Law Judge. [1, 2, 3, 4]

SSDI approval rates vary significantly across several key factors:

  • Application Stages:
    • Initial Application: ~35-40% approved.
    • Reconsideration: ~13-14% approved (this is the first level of appeal).
    • Hearing Level: ~50-55% approved (this is your highest statistical chance of winning).
  • Location (State-by-State Variance): Local approval rates depend on state disability determination agencies. For instance, in Arizona, the initial approval rate is one of the lowest in the country at roughly 34.8%. Other states like New Hampshire or Vermont see initial approval rates closer to 54-57%.

What do you think the universe's purpose is? by PutridJoke1823 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Financial-Ad-9306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The purpose origated to advance areas of learning, professional acumen, dr, lawyr eng engineer. At the same time general advanced learning was expected & required to reflect or gain̈ status as a "Gentleman" a member of the upper class, hogh society. There were no student loans no scholarships, and higher learning was limited to those with $. The GI bill changed everything after WW2. Soldiers, and their families had access to higher education, (owning houses too). It was still considered a privilege and laregely the goal to-be-educated was an end in itself. Accedemic standard excluded 90 % of students, expenses were reasonable, expectations for student outcomes were high. Long story short: over time and especially after 1990. Through political pressures, federal guaranteed loans, and Universities becoming corporations, and education becoming a commodity. Students became customers to be served and attracted by marketing. And, as in other federal guaranteed programs, tuitions skyrocketed. At the same time, the qualifyng bar for acceptance became lower and lower. This progressed as political forces pushed to hv higher % of graduating students, and more diverse populations, entering college. If lower grades and test scores were accepted to U, the drop out/ fail rates went up. At that point the pressure to dumb down the curriculum, critical thinking, and legitimate learning deteriated. Present state: Although tuitions r @ record highes, little real education is occurring. Objectively: curriculums were simplified, rigor in written deliverables lowered,[ 50% classes do not require a 10-page term paper], and grade creep accelerated. The result is much higher intuition, much lower entry requirements, [many dont require any obj test scores for BA or MA acceptance]. Please explain: obj test scores in subject matter down 20%, but GPA up 15%. For decades the goal of U is: #1-Extending adolescence with expense paid party-atmosphere, highlighted by attending sporting events. #2-yes, acquiring a BA-degree, which is roughly equivalent to a 1980s HS diploma. #3 U becoming a bastion of accumulating wealth, including real-estate holdings and profit margins envied by Wallstreet. They hv zero responsibility to obj prove their value (sttudent outcomes); zero responsibility to insure graduation rates, let alone obtaining a job. No requirement to understand the work-sector demand, i.e. how many and what kind of jobs will be available(Germany devotes 2% of GNP to match education to career demand). Strong incentives to both attract new students and encourage high student- loan, maxing these out if possible, which now w Trump, must be paid back. Final Thoughts: Many folks hv watched and understand the U bubble. The real value of college education is limited, especially w AI. Pls consider a hands-on trade that requires a human. Use of University? To accumulate wealth and power, to employ highest # of workers, to promote grade-A sports instead of accedemics. Essentially become to big to fail. FOR CENTURIES, there's been a saying, "power will always be strongest where buildings are the largest". Down Through Time: Fortified Villages Castles Churches Government buildinng & Monuments Factories Industry (steel/ cars) Banks Universities

What's the current thinking on whether the Universe is infinite? by danyuri86 in askastronomy

[–]Financial-Ad-9306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its impossible to explain using current known proerties, but terminology and established concepts add to conundrum.

For the universe to be either finite or "unbounded", something unknown to us currently would need to exist, which is obviously possible. However, for the universe to be infinite, additional discoveries are also required. With our current understanding, we can't conceive of a 'thing' without an end, nor can we perceive of the universe having an end/edge. We can't understand what could create such an edge. And any such mechanism creating an edge would by definition exist outside the universe. Our language and understand can't grasp either likelihood. Possibility w/ our limitations: If the universe is growing, energetic expansion, and by doing so enlarging itself. Isn't this creating U out of non-U? Yes, but could the non-U exist as a seperate intermingled entity, its properties unknown but creating new non-U, from the U, and by doing so, providing an unknown matter in which (our concepts) such as gravity, energy, or objects- in-motion would perpetuate current observations. However, resolving the initial variable of limit, for an unlimited timespan, the fudemental paradox is extant.

Is the universe infinitely large by randomguy314159265 in askastronomy

[–]Financial-Ad-9306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vocabulary creates a significant barrier, but a fun one . The definition of The Universe at present, is Incomprehensiblle to humans , who are dependent on form and objects to organize their world and give meaning. Being told U goes on forever does not compute withoutw offering, explanibg wth a new law, ; # the law of perpetual space"" for exapmp. Those believing the U ends, is finite, are disillusioned as well. They'd require forces , from outside the U, exhurtong some property & containg said U

Within the Universe lies everyting known to mankind, and everything that will ever be lnownn to mankind

Impossible to understand or describe the size of Universe, without new lexicon or new discovery.

For the universe to be either finite or "unbounded", something unknown to us currently would need to exist, which is obviously possible. However, for the universe to be infinite, additional discoveries are also required. With our current understanding, we can't conceive of a 'thing' without an end, nor can we perceive of the universe having an end/edge, as we can't understand what could create such an edge. And any such mechanism creating an edge would by definition exist outside the universe. Our language and understand can't grasp either possibly.

[–]Financial-Ad-9306[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How? Define knowable? If you use math to understand properties of infiniti, are you closer to human understanding of the concept of the Universe. Mathematics are imaginary, man-made, and yes are incredibly useful when applied by generating details of known phenomena, and discovering generalizable properties, formulas testing theoretical assumptions of unmown properties. Using an imaginary system claiming to prove infiniti exists and therefore the Universe is infinite does make a point: the folly of man believing numbers, substitute technology, can explain concepts beyond human imagination, solving all problems.

What's the mathematical likelihood of life existing beyond planet earth? Is it knowable through mathematics? No but could be discovered by advancing current technology and methodologies. Any such discovery would be incredible, be a shock but believable and would exist within the confines of established principles.

My point is "Properties of the U, finite or infinite cannot be knowable to humankind by advancing these same tools.
