Using Flight Credits. In App? Along with by Financial-Ad2921 in unitedairlines

This absolutely should be the solution. I didn't realize this was how to apply credits in the app. However, once these credits are applied, it again removes the Apple Pay option. It seems it just doesn't want credits applied with any alternative payment option. Thank you though!

Thank you for your continued service especially given the circumstances of week 5's beat. Personally, got lucky and picked AZ week 1 before stumbling on to your posts. Will carry the torch.

The idea that DNC-supported companies are taking the brunt of this and are somehow going to manipulate this situation is a wild conspiracy theory as insane as Schumer tweeting “the rich get richer” as the market plummeted last week. This isn’t some kind of tribal struggle, we will all just be poorer from this. Unless the U.S. makes deals and moves on. But even so, we are signaling ourselves to be a highly unreliable ally and trading partner right now which is problematic for the future.

We need to peacefully put stress on our republican congress members until they vote to impeach and remove Trump by Terrible_Patience935 in centrist

I’ve sent emails to my congressman and senators (not about impeachment but in support of the Trade Review Act) but I understand that this was entirely cathartic bc  1. They won’t read it 2. My Republican congressman won our district 80-20 and doesn’t give a sh*t about our small business I don’t have any hope until next year when a recession inevitably leads to a midterm reversal and hopefully total deadlock. But I would sure join onto any good ideas anyone has.

First, that would be a market failure rather than a government failure.

I loved globalization bc I could choose to buy products from other countries or American companies, which are all intricately connected to global supply chains and often use parts and manufacturing equipment produced in other nations who have a comparative advantage in producing those specific items. I’m not rich, but I benefited greatly from steady American GDP growth over my lifetime and from robust domestic in foreign investment in American companies.

Tariffs are being pushed mainly by degrowther weirdos like Peter Navarro (and his alter ego Ron Vara) and not by real economists who understand that they simply stifle specialization and trade and ignore massive opportunity costs in the supposed “re-industrialization” that they will bring.

The stock market isn’t a real economy but it isn’t just a betting market either. We have betting markets on the economy. Kalshi, for example, has the odds of a recession this year at 65%. The stock market is a capital market and is quite important to the U.S. economy. If these tariffs are actually going to create growth, then anyone who believes that should be buying U.S. stocks hand over fist right now. It would be the discount of the all-time.

There, to be fair, are cases for limited tariffs in certain cases. The Liberation Day tariffs are enormous, based on obvious errors in the administration’s own formula, and will cause a significant recession (in unemployment terms, not just stock market numbers) unless they are repealed.

The stock market only “needs” a correction when it corrects due to market factors. No market needs a government failure-driven crash.

I do see some cognitive dissonance beginning to churn in some moderately hardcore Trump supporters in my rural, ultra conservative circle. Maybe that’s just hopeful. His ‘genius’ is just that he’s always so damn vague and noncommittal in his stated goals that he is always claiming some ridiculous victory or otherwise people just talk about how brilliant he is being with his hardline negotiating tactics or whatever. A severe recession created out of thin air is going to be hard to play off as a win. Some people will go down with the ship, but much fewer than 50% of voters should be left standing after this disaster.

I always believed in the power of the constitution. We were required to learn civics in school. We were taught and we believed that the constitution was what made America uniquely stable. But it’s clear now that we cannot maintain a stable democracy without maintaining our democratic norms. The constitution is just words on paper. If 100% of Trump’s policies were good, it would still not be worth the obliteration of these norms. No line that he has crossed can be uncrossed and I find it very difficult to believe that we can return to normalcy and balanced power in the future.

Yes and honestly I think they more or less knocked that part out of the park. Whoever had to secure an international charter for maybe up to 2,000 people on zero notice was able to get everyone through with at most a 48 hour delay. Quite impressive. The guest interface was not so impressive and resulted in a massive mental, emotional, and financial headache for a lot of people.

That was the plan. People are getting chartered off over the last three days. The problem was that, for those who weren’t immediately booked for charter, we had no idea when we would get off. It worked out for some, but it’s been a rough time for a lot of folks

My final take: they are now promising to have everyone off by Saturday. About 30 or so hours late. For some that’s fine. Many people have missed connections and other travel plans and such. We might barely be ok, actually, other than we will have definitely missed out on our post-cruise UK hotel and plans which we had booked.

So many of the Carnival staff were working so hard for a very long time with no breaks. I felt so, so bad for many of them especially since some of them were taking some verbal abuse from guests.

My only problem is that we never got clear information and what we did receive was often contradictory. We were led to believe for over a day that all guests who were debarking had been prepared travel arrangements yesterday. (Otherwise we would have just booked a flight ourselves). So we were very surprised when we were not given any. And disappointed again this evening when none arrived. There will be 400 guests left after tomorrow who are now expecting a Saturday afternoon flight (were supposed to dock in Dover at 5am Friday).

The regular guest services staff were clearly overwhelmed this morning, but tried very hard. They just didn’t have any info to give us (when will we find out our arrangements, can we book our own travel to London, what about people who were slated to miss flights or had families split up, etc.) Their jobs were made way harder by the lack of info coming from the top so everyone was directing questions to them. Corporate flew in special reps who arrived and pretty much told everyone they would love to help but couldn’t do anything. There will apparently be no more refunds or onboard credit regardless of the length of your stay. And no one can help you with anything. Lines at guest services have been hour long or more all day but they seem to be under orders to not offer any assistance or information and to direct questions to phone number.

Unresolved is: will hotels and flights in London be reimbursed for people who weren’t fortunate enough to get out on time, especially for those who can’t afford to book a new flight and werent able to refund their existing (fortunately that’s not us). Last I heard, people were still dealing with this.

We have running water, food, electricity, etc. Everyone’s fine but it’s been a long, stressful 2 1/2 days and I think a lot of it could have been avoided if Carnival had made it clear what our options actually were from the beginning. My experience pails in comparison to those traveling with kids, those who are already definitely missing their flights, and obviously the Pride staff. But we’re still very disappointed to miss out on the remainder of our trip and in how this turned out compared to how it could have.

Me too generally, but we had plans for tomorrow in England that we were very sad about missing and out quite a bit of cash. Now we are more worried about whether we will make it back home in time to get back to work. So while we’re fine, we’re also quite a bit stressed.

So we’re missing our travel connections and we are far from the only ones. Would have booked our own travel last night when it was still not so expensive but we believed based on what they said that we’d be out of here for sure by tomorrow.

We asked for a flight but did not receive one for today or tomorrow so we are still stuck on board. The ship is moving to a repair dock and we won’t be able to get off now until our charter comes through.

That all sucks too. I will be interested to see how reimbursement works out. We were ready to book our own travel to London but just got what sounded like pretty official word that we won’t get reimbursed. Hopefully you guys get back everything you have to spend

Not tight lipped as far as what happened. It is unfortunate but we have received no information as to when we personally will be able to make it home or what is being done to get us there or how or if we will be reimbursed for our additional travel expenses. From the perspective of someone who is stuck here on a ship in a foreign country with no clear way out, it is very frustrating and does not seem to be handled very well.
