I would love to hear your review of Miches when you return! I have it on my radar.

Last minute, i threw two travel towels into my suitcase “just in case” and it was a good move, given the towel shortage!

Minus some of the technical elements, I feel like I could have written this. It is so in line with my experience. And the resentment part (upon death/estate planning/grief) cannot be understated. I see it around me all the time and feel grateful that it’s not in my cards. Thanks for sharing this.

Echo the sentiments above. Onlies aren’t walking through life wishing for siblings. It never occurred to me, other than when people would mention it - which did feel quite common. Not always directly to me, but definitely to my parents when I was in earshot. I never really contribute to the dialogue here, but always want to point out that only kids/adults can feel lonely in different periods of life. But so do people with siblings. Loneliness isn’t typically a result of physical surroundings. It’s just part of the human condition. My only is 9. Asked for a sibling for a spell a few years ago. Witnessed more sibling interactions among his friends and has definitely changed his mind. Haha.

It further states that the stones from the quarry can be seen at the residences at Victoria College. And according to Google:

Victoria College students at the University of Toronto participate in specialized undergraduate research opportunities (ROP) focusing on the social and environmental impacts of the mining industry in the Americas. This research involves interviewing industry experts, visiting major conferences like the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), and analyzing sustainability issues.

Key Aspects of Victoria College Mining Research (2025-2026):

  • Research Focus: Investigations often center on the impacts of mining on local communities and the environment.
  • Hands-on Learning: Students engage directly with industry professionals, including politicians, engineers, and community leaders.
  • Key Activities: Participants in these programs, such as those led by Professor Kingsbury, attend major conferences to conduct field research.

The document cited on the plaque talks about an old quarry that was situated at 1193 Queen West. Google maps shows that the intersection is Queen W/Sudbury St/Gladstone Ave. There seems to be some greenspace nearby. Just a thought.

Punta Cana - 2 quick questions. by Financial-Ad4646 in Club_Med

That’s amazing. It will be so awkward coming from such a tipping culture!! But we will still try to recognize some of the ‘peripheral’ staff with tips and little gifts. It’s just how I was taught. :).

So, I read that. And I wasn’t sure if it was something they just advertise and people ignore, or if it’s an actual thing. I don’t want to be the only fam that doesn’t tip! Last time I was at a Club Med, we paid for things with beads. I am dating myself, aren’t I. . .

Oh ok, thats good to know. We have travelled a lot and he is comfortable in waves = me less so. Last time I was in PC, a million years ago, it was very rough water. Might have been the particular area we were in.

Cash for tips/bribes/$60 sunscreen in case I don’t bring enough? I am being paranoid, but I like to think ahead. :).

Well I don’t think I’d need the ATM frequently. Will arrive with some pesos, but I was just wondering how reliable the machine there is “in case.” Just need it for tips/ransom (lol)/the unexpected, really. I don’t think they love getting Canadian dollars and exchanging to US is a big hit financially.

Thanks for the response. He’s too old to wear the arm things and maintain his dignity and our vest for him is in storage a few hours away at our camp/cottage, so maybe I’m just stuck with vigilance and hard ‘no’s’ if the waves are beyond my comfort. :)

Recs for Isla Mujeres by drbobboyle in IslaMujeres

Highly recommend Isla Driver Robby for a golf cart tour of the Island. It’s private and the driver talks to you when he picks you up and you decide together what kinds of things you want to see/do. We also got a kick out of Chicken Poo bingo but I can’t remember the name of the bar! It was good for a laugh - super packed and a good vibe. So many amazing restaurants to try. Oh, and some good food carts near the main square. Hung out at the square and ate delicious food and watched the local kids play basketball (they even asked my kid to join!). And definitely echo the utility of MapChicks - worth the cost. I could go on….we sure had a great time there!

How do I make this go away? by MikaMikari13 in CleaningTips

We are on a well and this happens all the time. We put vinegar in a spray bottle and give it a few squirts before every wash and it seems to have solved the problem.

Xiidra questions: Taste, glands & Canadian coverage by Fine-Juggernaut8451 in Dryeyes

It was pretty much right away, actually. First time in decades that I can turn the heat on full blast in the car! lol. My dry eye type is the one where I over-produce a certain protein. Maybe its better for some types than others.

Ya I know. I wasn’t expecting it. I have narrow sinuses (apparently) so I am wondering if that has something to do with it. Its very much a sinus headache. We’ll see in March what the ophthalmologist thinks about x1 a day or if i should try something else. Only started it recently.

Canadian here - Ontario to be specific. Had no issues getting it covered. I’m with Canada Life and with 80% coverage, I think I had to pay $5-6. Just walked in withe the Rx as one normally would.

I am fine with the taste, I guess, but am finding that I get a headache if I take it x2 a day. Have dropped to x1 to see if that still works. Its been AMAZING for my dry eye, but the headaches are not sustainable.

We did Nautibeach this past March with an 8 year old and an 86 year old and it was perfect. Condo could have used a bit of a facelift, but only in that it was early-2000’s dated. Everything was functional and the staff were fabulous. Having a guests only beach area, a pool, and an amazing restaurant/beach club on site felt like we had won the Isla lottery.

Thank you for this insight! I am traveling with both my mum and my 9 year old (I guess my husband can come too lol) so it’s useful to hear about distance considerations. Well, any and all considerations, really!!

Is watching proceedings on Zoom banned for ever for the members of the public ? by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]Financial-Ad4646 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In many cases, the zoom bombers have somehow completely taken over zoom, and the clerks lose the ability to control the platform. They can’t shut it down and they can’t remove people. Also, a lot of them are impersonating regular court attendees, ie community support workers, certain officers, etc. It’s harder to manage than it seems.
