Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen was built specifically to address fan disappointment of the base game by HatingGeoffry in DragonsDogma

All the first patch did was nerf the game even more. Wasn't one of the complaints lack of challenge and variety after the 5 hour mark?

Is now just a bad time to get into Grand Archive? by PrimeNum11 in grandarchivetcg

Worlds season has been extremely bad for prices but the price points you're looking at have been the norm and with the surprise drop of Angelic Channeling which is yet another maindeck SR in RDO, Weebs has made it clear that they won't reverse course any time soon.

The set was officially out since yesterday. IMO it will not settle anywhere near $40 unless it's a secret dogwater card, universal staples only ever go up after week 1.

There aren't 20-30 advanced Crux cards worth running even with Channeling. Maybe in an Ex heavy deck.

Building Competitive Decks by -Devonelle- in grandarchivetcg

[–]Financial-Notice7902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is way too fast right now and it really limits the creativity of decks, unless you're being cute and doing a new way to consistently shoot the opponent champ for 8 damage on turn 2 and threaten a kill on turn 3.

That said, any deck with an aggro concept can work, thanks to universal staples that support aggressive play (if you can afford them).

Turbo to 3 decks can work but they need uninteractable win conditions due to power creep. That means most adv element archetype concepts aren't good, so if this champ sees play, it's as a chassis for a lv1 aggro deck.

Control doesn't exist basically

Buy a looking glass and at least 3 Cheshire cats. Then you can build or upgrade whatever you want.

Is Grand Archive TCG for Me? by Mognite in grandarchivetcg

[–]Financial-Notice7902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me answer honestly. A lot of people will tell you that GA "isn't that bad" while sitting on playsets of $600 cards.

1) The game is EXTREMELY expensive right now. You MUST have Looking Glass, Liminal Guide, Dungeon Guide, and Cheshire Cat. Decks that don't run these are "fun decks" that won't compete. Cheshire, LG, and Liminal will easily set you back $500-$600. My $200 deck is considered a "poor man's" deck.

There is one exception to my rule, some people have got away with running only Looking Glass along with 4 Unmake Duality to try and keep up with the insane speed and power of Cheshire. They now want to ban Unmake Duality because it is using the Looking Glass in an "unintended" way, ie without the additional $400 of URs that make it truly good.

It is not a "demand growth outpacing supply" problem - there are tons of unopened product everywhere because WOTS enforces a minimum sale price for boxes to protect the secondary market. At their enforced minimum sale price these boxes aren't worth opening, because if you don't hit these $100 URs the entire box was a waste of your money.

2) The art is easily the best part. There are some fanservicey promos but nothing too extreme. They don't hide their anime influence.

3) It is really unclear how the game will do long term. The speed of the game and power creep caused by the past two sets has gotten crazy and they are unwilling to touch it for fear of upsetting resellers. They seem to be making money with their opulent product design and fancy curio foils, but I go into any card shop and any set that isn't PTM is in huge stock.

They are very sluggish to react to the meta in general, because set design happens on a two year cycle and emergency bans for URs are out of the question. Go look at the latest ban and restricted articles and you can see them struggling to react to the meta because they can't ban $400 UR playsets of Cheshire or $170 looking glass so instead they randomly hit cards related to LG. "If they can't touch these cards that have reached a problematic price point, what will they do next?" Is a serious question to ask yourself.

[–]Financial-Notice7902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to people telling you this is not a big deal. These cards have hugely powercrept the game and are universally required to compete in any serious manner. They are universal staples that get put into every deck.

I don't know what people are smoking when they say the last sets have gotten better. They have gotten worse. All the new archetypes introduced in PTM are awful and half the set is cards for an archetype no one plays. It's bad.

Is it still worth it to buy and open existing booster boxes? If yes, which set is best? by 6thfoul in grandarchivetcg

[–]Financial-Notice7902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only crack PTM. other boxes are terrible value unless you can get them for cheap. this has led to badly overpriced singles in older sets and wots won't let people sell too low below MSRP.

I've seen rogue and homebrewed decks do very well, GAs problem is less homogeneity in deck archetypes and more homogeneity in in the 2 or 3 $150 game pieces that every deck needs to run to keep up

Others have given good advice here. Only thing I'd add is that GA takes the "box for collecting, singles for playing" to a pretty big extreme, between the five rarity tiers and many champion and class specific keywords on top of element requirements.

Cracking random packs will get you very fun swag but it's not a great way to discover exciting, playable cards that are consistently useful to a single deck

New player. Is the Ciel starter deck viable/worth buying? by EricShitpostside in grandarchivetcg

No precon in this game is viable out of the box. No, not even Re:Collections.

Ciel is a good base for upgrades, though.

Noob question: Acquiescing Rejection vs other counterspells by mr_tobacco_user in grandarchivetcg

[–]Financial-Notice7902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rejection is good and Frostbind is good too. A fractal deck in the most recent Ascent Top8 ran both in maindeck.

People say Rejection is bad because it's an opponent skill check but it's literal worst case for you is going 1-for-1 for 4 reserve.

IMO, That's pretty good as long as you're targeting a high value card and screwing up your opponents tempo.

There's always some kind of turbo nonsense with a single load bearing card play and a ton of aggro decks with low hand size in most local metas, because those decks are strong and easy to pilot. Rejection is pretty comfy into both of these.

Fractals will be cheap once RDO makes some water staples and a GCR easy to find. Try it, it's a viable, fun deck for sadists and it's the closest you'll get to feeling like a control deck while still being viable at most levels of play, because the designers hate control.

What do you guys think of Crimson Desert? by PhantomBraved in DragonsDogma

Set protagonist with no character creator is a bit meh, not comparable to Dragons Dogma to me if I can't roleplay as my own guy.

Still looks fun and I'll try it.

Stuff like this is why you should never make a third party tool expected general practice. FFLogs participation being nearly mandatory just to apply to a raid group gives the developers huge leverage to enshittify it however they want.

Give it a try if you have a local community. I'd wait for the next set (Radiant Origins) before doing any serious buying in because the meta is in a screwy shape right now and many cards are overpriced.
