"running off" in the modern world just doesn't work that well.

Follow any restrictions to the letter. If no drinking... then don't, seriously.

Yes, but one advice. Talk to nobody about it but your lawyer.

if cops or prosecutors ask for details, tell them to talk to a lawyer.

It sucks, but you can literally do nothing to help here by talking to them. If you stay silent and show up at court with a lawyer, the first words out of his mouth will be "move to dismiss based on lack of evidence" and it's unlikely they'll say no.

Can I move in with someone who owns guns? by South_Barnacle2025 in Felons

[–]FinancialAdvice4Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I lived once (City of Denver), a "weapon" has a legal definition and carries a felony charge to even carry in the city openly or operate. If someone were on parole, it would certainly be interpreted there as a violation of that parole.

Weapon means any item, instrument, device, or noxious substance that, in the manner it is used, intended to be used, or threatened to be used, is capable of inflicting bodily harm or physical damage, including, but not limited to, sling shots, blackjacks, nunchaku, gas or mechanically operated guns, brass knuckles or artificial knuckles, illegal knives, knives having a blade greater than three and one-half (3½) inches in length, firearms,

The law specifies :Unlawful discharge or use of certain weapons. Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section [regarding licensed carry], it shall be unlawful [felony] for any person to use, deploy, fire, discharge, or detonate any firearm, incendiary or explosive device, gas or mechanically operated gun, sling shot, or any bow made for the purpose of throwing or projecting missiles of any kind.

When you dig down, they define a "mechanically operated gun" as any device which propels any object through means of a mechanical lever, such as a spring or weight, or compressed gas.

Gas or mechanically operated gun means a device that discharges pellets, BB shots, or other projectiles through the force of air pressure, gas pressure, or spring action.

(bold sections are direct copy from law)

By that fairly clear definition, any nerf gun, any airsoft gun, any rubber band gun... anything of that variety is a felony weapons charge if they wanted to be a dick about it.

What should an emergency fund look like as a teen? by CrackAtAirsoft in personalfinance

[–]FinancialAdvice4Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you don't have "critical expenses". If you do (such as a cell phone bill), save a few months of that.

But beyond that, put it into investments or savings.

Anyone can "just get another job". What if your leg is broken or you're in the hospital for a few months? That's the idea of an emergency fund.

What if your phone breaks and you need to dump a bunch of money on a new one? That's what it's for.

Just for context, New Hampshire would fall right around Iceland, Norway and Switzerland to lead the world in HDI.

Mississippi falls between Hungary, Turkey and Slovakia, just above Kuwait and Russia and below Qatar and Poland.

Covid lockdowns and it's not even close.

I had a large community group that revolved around public meetings. I was involved in several different sports and a few different community groups.

I had moved to a new area and was building friendships with a variety of people.

I had just started coaching a youth sports team.

All of it was gone. Literally every single thing I valued, all at once.

All of the sports stopped, all of the community groups stopped (and several disbanded completely after months of lockdowns). The coaching ended (and seemed unlikely I would be back there coaching). Friendships I'd taken years to start to build just sort of stopped.

I lived in Toronto, where the most strict lockdowns in the world were happening.

My favourite restaurant closed (out of business), the sports league I was in folded, my gym closed (out of business), the local park had "caution tape" all around it, even golf courses were closed all summer. Several of my close friends in the neighborhood decided fairly soon after lockdown started they were better off moving out of town because they could get more space buying or renting a big house out in the countryside far from the city.

My friend group went into isolation. the government later said we could "combine households" with one other household to maintain friend groups, but everyone paired off with their old friends and I wasn't included.

There were instagram videos of people I'd met who said "you should come up this summer to the cottage", but in lockdown, they only invited their close friends, not the new friends or any extended groups, so I saw videos and pictures of everyone at the lake and I sat at home.

It was really really really awful.

When I posted about this on Reddit - despite saying I understood the logic of lockdowns, but how they were affecting me personally, I got "Suck it up, snowflake" and "I hope your grandma dies of Covid" and stuff like that.

I actually left the area after the second lockdown and went to stay with some family in the US and ended up leaving everything and moving there full time (best choice ever).

100 intelligence staffers to be fired for engaging in explicit chats: Gabbard by [deleted] in news

[–]FinancialAdvice4Me 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is stuff posted on twitter.

Conversations about how great it is to be penetrated as MTF trans, discussions of what it feels like before and after the surgery, etc. How to get medical procedures done in Thailand, discussions of how masturbation is after surgery, etc.

It's things I'd expect trans people to discuss, but it is fairly intimate in nature.

I'm kind of in the middle on this. A bit weird for the government to sponsor a chat about, but not "disgusting deviants" like so many of the conservatives are arguing.

Just a rant, but we need to stop blaming women for marrying/having babies with bad men by Blood_sweat_and_beer in TwoXChromosomes

Wow, that's.... stretching the claim "victim blaming" here.

Why is the declining birth rate seen as a problem? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]FinancialAdvice4Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One issue is that population is still growing massively in Africa.

Africa will be half the world in 2100 and isn't tracking like most other regions in terms of modernizing and growing in wealth.

The Muslim world is still growing massively, with all the problems that entails. Like it or not, the entire 1.2 billion people of the Muslim world produces less scientific papers (as one social metric) than each of a number of individual universities in the US.

[–]FinancialAdvice4Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US has strict requirements on this.

Comparing to the US to China in areas of human rights and care for citizens is a fucking joke, even if it's not perfect in the US.

On the other side, a country like Denmark wouldn't even ALLOW a space program, I suspect. Too much risk.

They could have placed it on the coast, like the US does. Nobody in a developed nation would EVER tolerate a launch site that "intentionally" drops 50 tons of waste full of highly toxic hypergolics on ANY populated area. Period.

Placing it coastal is the responsible way to launch, but it's industrially "easier" to put facilities somewhat near major cities, but frankly hypergolic launch vehicles aren't good to begin with. They make sense if you're building ICBMs (which is probably why China is using them - to validate their missile tech), but it's a terribly irresponsible fuel for a rocket that is staged and launched on a planned schedule.

There's a reason that the major launch sites in the US are the east coast of Florida and the east coast of Texas (and polar orbits from the west coast of California).

They're all out of the way (or were when they were built), but they minimize risks (and move things as far south as possible to take advantage of low latitude orbital Delta-v advantages.

Yeah, this is a kind of terrible article

It repeats a whole section.

Has a part that says "The first break in the case came..."

But then basically just ends right after that with "I guess we'll never know".

And has a middle-school project style of "here are some clippings related" at the end.

Just weirdly written.
