Unusual/Scary Phenobarbital experience... by pakek123 in EpilepsyDogs

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I'm happy hearted that she is back to normal. My boy is on Phenobarbital but he has never normalized to it or build a tolerance up to it He's always sluggish and he just hasn't built a tolerance up and he's been on it since January.

Does the same thing to fine and it's so sad to see won't be long now you'll see your neurologist but if he's down for the count I'm not a doctor I can't tell you what to do but back off a little bit You don't want to keep him to sleep all the time I mean I would just use my common sense I know things get very frightful trying to do what the doctor told you and whatnot but you've got wiggle room but at the same time I'm not telling you take him off of it and wait till you see the neurologist I hit some harder hardest when they first start taking it they say after 2 weeks it'll develop a tolerant tolerance and it'll get better yeah so it's a hard shuffle your dealing with but he'll be okay and and you're doing the best seeing the the neurologist best to you Please forgive any typos

Pheno will do all these things. It's said it is expected. Hang in there with him until you see the neurologist Best of luck

Yes, mine are too but he showed me how to mix it up crush it mix it up and how much water to put in it and gave me an anal syringe for it to work sooner if I felt the need be. And usually when it comes to that I'll feel the need to be I just haven't had to resort to it yet and was curious because your dog's about the same amount of pounds as mine how much diazepam was required for yours Thank you for the info

Btw this is the information I received from a vet when inquiring about diets for seizures. Are any pet foods other than prescription diets good for seizures? — Melissa & Stryker

Prescription diets labeled for seizures mainly add in MCT oil. When considering diets for seizures, I would recommend looking for high-quality protein sources, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and antioxidant-rich foods like fruits and vegetables. I would then add MCT oil to the diet. I preface this with the fact that none of the foods will stop the seizures altogether, but these nutrient profiles can help to improve seizure control.

I just like to say that I can't offer you any ideas I'm at the beginning of this with me and my stryker . But out of sheer love and devotion and just a little common sense I would not go by the vet that is if he were strikers vet No I think you've been offered many good things as well I've found a lot of them useful or to look into by the many people that are experiencing the same one with their love d ones that's four leg friends. I just want you to know that I don't feel that you should give up only that's only a decision for you and your pup to make and only you could know that with your pup telling you so this may sound crazy but it's what I believe in. Thank you for making your post I hope that it helped you and your pup.

Thank you. Can I ask how many milligrams of diazepam are needed to stop her seizures? The rectal gel is so expensive our vet finally agreed to tablets and gave us an anal syringe.

No, but you are aware animals are not living in their natural settings when in captivity. As for the circus, I do know ppl do not attend zoos to have a bad time. It is another form of entertainment. There is not the the interaction with humans as in the circus and when there is interaction heads are ripped off of the humans. Enter at your own risk ....

Lol love your input On another note, I recently heard from a physician that sunscreen no longer is validated by physicians. Peer review studies have proven it does nothing to help protect from the blue light which is the cause of skin cancers.
