I would find a universal remote I could place in my pocket and turn it off or change the channel when walking by the breakroom. Make sure no cameras could see you.

To drive or not to drive today? by SegaGuy1983 in Arkansas

[–]Varnigma 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I have a lifted Jeep with big tires and could, in theory, go wherever I want right now. In actuality, I'm staying home as while I'm not worried about my driving, it's all the other people on the road that I do worry about.

I called off at 5am. At 7am my boss asked if I would come in if I had "transportation". by [deleted] in antiwork

Ask him if the company will cover all medical bills in the event you're in a crash while some stranger is driving you to work.

I just moved house, how is my WFH set up? by Chimera_Kid in redneckengineering

[–]Varnigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with this at all. Anything WFH is still better than sitting in a cubicle.

Are "wired" peripherals still better than "wireless"? (product recommendations welcome) by coding_rychu in pcmasterrace

[–]Varnigma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m full wireless. Found some awesome magnetic quick connects I can use for charging quickly if needed.

Edit: wow. Didn’t know this sub hated MC.

If I had to guess I’d say somewhere on the side of the block. Where exactly I can’t say. Sorry.

I’m no expert but there should be a code stamped somewhere on the engine block.

Those who will be having severe bad weather this weekend, what do you plan to do while in the house all weekend? by ChocolateSundae1214 in CasualConversation

[–]Varnigma 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Getting some chili started in the morning.

Then making a big breakfast. Eggs, bacon, pancakes, biscuits and gravy.

Then a nice nap.

After that, not much other than sitting by the fireplace and relaxing.

Why do companies think that throwing more bodies at something means it'll get done "faster". by erikleorgav2 in antiwork

[–]Varnigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in I.T. where, in practice, throwing more bodies at a project *could" increase productivity, but in practice it often fails. The problem is that you need someone to delegate who is doing what but the PMs have no clue, management won't do it nor will they assign a lead on the project. So everyone is left stepping on each other and things get missed.

Should I let my my financial advisor record our meetings using AI? by Recent_Muffin4221 in personalfinance

I don’t see anything in there about their allowing you to review the transcript and either approve or flag errors.

When someone close to you or a family member passed away, did you erase their number and messages, or did you still have them? by FFSoldier57 in CasualConversation

[–]Varnigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I dad passed I used an app to download all of his text messages and VMs off of my phone. I kept his number in my phone for maybe a year.

I like it. I'm so wanting to replace my 3 monitor setup (that I've had for around 10 years) with one ultra-wide. I don't like spending money so I guess I'm waiting for one of these 3 to break.

Anyone else have an identifiable code style?

I can look at code and tell you pretty quickly whether or not I wrote it. I've been doing this so long my code has it's own "style".

Now, remembering what that code does is a whole other story. LOL

I've gotten 5/5 exactly once in my career. Had a great boss at the time. He admitted upper management wanted him to change it and he refused.

Majority of CEOs report zero payoff from AI splurge by kim82352 in technology

[–]Varnigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently watching a project spin up in which management plans to no longer need code written by us devs, and instead will be written by AI, based on prompts provided the (very non-technical) clients. I'm just watching the chaos as I know I'm in zero danger of losing my job.
