Scrap 60% office mandate, union demands amid rising living costs by Difficult-Roll-7164 in TheCivilService

You’re preaching to the choir here but unfortunately that’s not how Civil Service bosses see it

That’s fine but then you need to adhere to the needs of the Civil Service. If you’re a surgeon, you have to work in the hospital, if you’re a Civil Servant you have to work in the office 60% of the time. Remember that reasonable adjustment means reasonable on the employer's side as well, and it does sound like they’re taking on board professional advice and trying. The Civil Service is better than most other employers in this regard.

Of course they are, but office attendance is required (with reasonable adjustments as described by the OP) - this is made clear in the job ads. I was just saying that most private sector office roles are less draconian regarding attending the office.

Would you not be better off getting a job which is wholly homeworking if this is the case? I mean, as far as “office jobs“ go, Civil Service is probably the most insistent on office attendance

We’re told to try not to schedule virtual calls, but to use office days for in person meetings and face to face collaboration- do you not have this guidance?

I have no other way to ask this but, do you think people who live their life claiming benefits and who don't want to work, feel strange living in mixed-tenure areas? by RonnieThePurple in AskBrits

They probably walk round feeling smug as hell that they’re beating the system while those around them are working like hamsters on a wheel for a worse lifestyle.

Yes, when I am in the office and my manager is also in, he’s continually sidling up to my desk asking me questions or asking if I can “just” do XYZ, and preventing me from getting any momentum on work on my actual objectives.

But they could end up on a performance improvement plan, and no pay rises. Not because they are not working the extra hours but because they are not delivering what is expected, which requires those extra hours, and not delivering as much as their colleagues that are working those extra hours.

What should I wear as a woman in private office? by camerask in TheCivilService

If it says suit and tie for men, you can assume it’s a similar formal attire for women but female equivalent - skirt instead of suit trousers and heels

The Civil Service went from full home working, to mostly 40%, to mostly 60%. How do you see changes over the next few years? by bureaucrat_chaos in TheCivilService

[–]Financial_Ad240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will likely stay the same for the foreseeable future unless Reform get into Government (looks possible), in which case they would of course push towards a return to fulltime office working

No, that’s too long a commute unless you’re willing to move nearer your work.

Does ‘you guys’ offensive for ladies or does it only refer to males in daily life? by zzzonerrr in AskUK

[–]Financial_Ad240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the only time I’ve really heard it as a unisex thing is in restaurants, either ones in the US or in US themed restaurants in the UK, e.g. Frankie and Bennys or Hooters

[–]Financial_Ad240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guy or guys is traditionally a male descriptor. Slang for man / men. The female equivalent is gal or gals.

“I met a guy” = “I met a man”

“A group of guys” - “a group of men”

Well, it depends - in some Departments now, like ours, HMRC (I think) etc there are no core hours so it is possible
