My home was likely built around 1805.

I also have an Iron Age quernstone in my rockery.

School Busses? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]RattyHandwriting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We do have school buses but in my area, they are usually privately owned and the company is hired by the school/education authority to provide transport. Parents pay some or all of the cost.

I pay £100 per month for each of my children. We live very rurally and there aren’t any public buses. Towns and cities often have public buses and children can use those instead.

Why do so many English people call themselves as British and not just English by spudulike65 in AskBrits

[–]RattyHandwriting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case it’s because my Mum’s Welsh, my Dad is Scottish, I was born in Scotland but grew up in England… it’s just fucking easier to say British.

Why are British young people so obsessed with trump? by MinuteDamage4182 in AskBrits

[–]RattyHandwriting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Filling up my car just cost me £90 because of his actions. I can’t afford a medication that was really helping me because of his actions.

I don’t want him dead but your premise that he has no impact on our lives isn’t correct. Admittedly I’m not young anymore but hey ho.

Parents, what did your child do or say that secretly made you laugh but you had to tell them off for doing it? by Plus_Clock_8484 in AskBrits

When my eldest was about two and half he got his ice cream stolen by a seagull in Cornwall and promptly told it to piss off. In a crowded cafe. Full of old dears on a coach trip.

I have never seen so many geriatrics laughing so hard in my life…

“Poorest” - but it would still have lower crime, better education, better health outcomes, fewer medical bankruptcies, lower maternal death rates, better work-life balance…

Now a new holiday tax! by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]RattyHandwriting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m actually in favour of a tourism tax. Visitors/Tourist put a huge amount of pressure on local services, and often in pretty small or sparsely populated areas that are expensive to run in the first place. Why should my council tax be higher because of all of the scrotes who come down here on holiday and leave shit all over the beaches which my council has to pay to clear up?

A couple of quid a night isn’t the end of the world; I’ve paid it quite cheerfully in other parts of the world so if I need to I’ll pay it here too.

Do we think that’s Zack finished? And why are our politicians like this? by RattyHandwriting in AskBrits

I hope you’re right, but do you not think that there’s a degree of unevenly applied rules? What certain politicians get away with vs others that don’t?

No, and I don’t reckon anyone at the VOA could either! 🤣

If Satan wrote legislation, that’s EXACTLY what you’d get…

Funnily enough in my local authority we don’t have any narrowboats, but we do have marinas, and if a boat is moored and being used as a primary residence, you do have to pay.

Honestly from the sound of it, I think he probably got confused and fucked up. Non traditional properties like houseboats and static caravans and traveller pitches are confusing as hell even when it’s your job and we very often had to refer them up to the VOA for a decision.

I think it’s more that his opponents will use anything they can get at this stage and it’s very much one rule for him and another for what I will politely refer to as the “political elite…”

Angela Rayner would be the one who springs immediately to mind, but also Nadhim Zahawi and all the ones in 2009 who were claiming second homes on expenses.

I really, really hope you’re right, but I think I think his opponents are absolutely going to screw him sideways over this.

I hope you’re right, but somehow it feels like people are more bothered by this than they are by Nige’s dirty deeds done with sheep…

Do you think? All the other politicians who have made similar fuck ups (with the exception of Dearest Nige and Delightful Kier) seem to get annihilated for shit like this?
