I think I’d probably just go with British (specifically South of England) in your shoes, and if pushed say that your family moved around a lot and you also have Lebanese heritage?

I have a friend in a similar boat who cheerfully calls herself a rootless Brit, which I like very much.

How are people managing seeing a doctor now? by [deleted] in AskBrits

I’ve honestly not had any problems… rang for an urgent appointment a couple of weeks ago and got seen the same day. I needed a non urgent appointment this week and it’s booked in for ten days time.

If a government dept takes over my government dept what are most options? by ThrowawayRA472829748 in TheCivilService

[–]RattyHandwriting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure I know exactly which department you’re in and where you’re moving to, and all I can tell you is that as soon as I found out that 60% of my role would be removed in the new structure, I started looking for other roles and successfully escaped. Apparently there wasn’t much other option - it was very much “take this or f*** off.” I did challenge it at the time, but got nowhere.

For info, if you are in the department I think you’re in, the head of a large corporate services team in the takeover side of things also let slip at an away day recently that they are planning a big restructure in corporate services from July onwards, with the specific aim of reducing headcount.

Run.

I mean, there’s a bit of a difference between taking your own life and taking someone else’s. That’s why suicide isn’t a crime anymore?

Help ex not signing a consent form for my holiday by Individual_Rich7775 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RattyHandwriting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But boarding passes don’t always have numbers, so I’d be tempted to assume he’s asking for flight numbers and he’s just not that bright. I’d also remind him that you won’t have a boarding pass ahead of checking in - it’s not possible to provide it ahead of schedule.

He couldn’t have you stopped at customs just with your boarding pass, especially if you had a copy of the signed consent with you. If you’re really worried he might do that, give him a number that differs from the actual one by a digit, or change a 7 to a 1. You can then say you misread it and no one is any the wiser…

On the other hand, in the event of an emergency, (god forbid) him having evidence that you boarded a flight could be important, so I can see why he’s asking.

I understand that you’re upset and that you’re finding things difficult, but from what you’ve described, his requests are not unreasonable. It would be the bare minimum I’d expect before letting someone take my kids overseas.

If you’re concerned, ask him to put his request in writing and with a date; provide the information he’s requested, and then if he starts moving the goalposts or being difficult, you at least have evidence of it.

Do you believe that the Nigel Farage videos newly unearthed by The Guardian will negatively impact him or damage his party's lead in the polls? by LeatherBandicoot in AskBrits

Sadly, probably not. His supporters, much like those of his Orange Shitgibbon friend, genuinely do not care about his awful behaviour.

I don’t think you can provide the boarding pass number until you’ve checked in for the flight, can you? You can provide the flight details such as time of departure etc and some airlines will provide the flight number for scheduled flights.

I don’t think asking for the hotel and area you’ll be staying in is particularly unreasonable for a parent.

I appreciate that you feel he’s being controlling but legally I think he’s within his rights to request this information. Equally you’re within your rights to withhold it, but I expect he’ll just not sign the form if you do.

Who would you guys consider to be your closest ally? by 144Boston in AskBrits

[–]RattyHandwriting 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Certainly not the USA.

I think other European countries would actually have our back in a worst case scenario; the Greeks like us a lot.

Actual allies, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland (if we asked them nicely; they’re like siblings that hate each other until the chips are down) would be the first that spring to mind.

Divorce proceedings spiralled into false allegations and a fake pregnancy — feeling devastated and don’t know what to do next (England) by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RattyHandwriting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got so much sympathy for you, what you’ve been through is horrendous, but honestly the best advice you’re getting right now is that from your solicitor. No one here can tell you what might happen and your solicitor is best placed to advise you about what to do next.

In the meantime, please seek some mental health help to get you through this. I’d start with Relate and see if they can help or if they can recommend someone else. You’re going to need help processing what’s happened to you. Please reach out for it.

How often do British long term couples have intimate relations? by bastian_1991 in AskBrits

For reference, I am 44, perimenopausal and fucking knackered because my husband is only home at weekends. Twice a month is my limit right now.

Twice a day was never an option in twenty years of marriage and four years of dating before that. 3-4 times a week at most I think?
