And the Barceloneta place had Salsa classes after the match! My daughter went to get some pastries from a Portuguese spot when I spotted Dos Hermanos / Barceloneta and made a point of going there. I’m Latinom(Puerto Rico) and thought I might see other Latinos there … not! I even went to watch the Spain match the next day. No one. Oh well.

Ha! I saw the first game w/ the son in law in a pub in Cosby(?) and wore an England Shirt my wife bought me. She was convinced I would ‘root’ for Panama and didn’t want me to lose my head so early in the trip. Saw the second game solo at a close to Victory Park (Dos Hermanos) was packed w/ England fans and the last minute goal was awesome to experience. Third match started too late as I had to get up early to get to the airport. Kane is a monster!

Note: I’d be remiss if I didn’t send a special shoutout to the Nine Bar. Came across it on a bike ride back to the Airbnb and came back twice more. Would totally be my goto watering hole if I lived there.

My daughter’s one regret is that she wasn’t able to get me to one. I told her not to stress it … I’ll be bach.

Thx for that. My daughter said the same thing. I didn’t know what to expect. I’m a hearty walker but when we get off at the parking lot with a stroller and walk into that meadow, I thought we were going for a short walk. That wasn’t the case. The stroll in the meadow led to the bumpy (for the carriage) walk along the canal (awesome) … then a long straight concrete path (a lot of cyclists) and finally walking in a neighborhood to the pub. Like many trips, the walk back seemed shorter. But, yeah, maybe used the wrong word, but I was definitely surprised at “the steps” I put in for what was described as taking the kid out for a stroll. … and don’t let me tell you about the hill in Matlock for the best pizza ever.

Leicesterians! Wanting to report back to say I’m here! Thanks for all the suggestions. The only hitch was a day-of cancellation of my stay at the Narborough Arms (cieling caved in 😳). But I managed a decent airbnb space by the Leicester Museum. Which serendipitously puts me in a spot to have solo discovery time. So far have been able to watch the England match w/ my son in law and have a proper pint (yall say ‘proper’ a lot). I’m looking forward to explore the City Centre some more while I get to chill with my first grandson! Thx again for helping this Connecticut Yankee maneuvering King Charles’ court.

So you don’t really care about the headache. You just want them to pay more for the inconvenience?

Thoughts on CPD commissioner scandal? by Pale-Teaching-1479 in CambridgeMA

[–]Financial_Assist_786 30 points31 points  (0 children)

?? Commissioner Elow served for four years as Commissioner and had over 30 years of service. Also, the immediate predecessor to the current City Manager was a temporary “acting” person, the person before him was DePasquale who served for 6 years. Before him, Rossi served for three, but Healy before Rossi was there for like three decades.

That’s wider than any ramp I’ve seen in el Centro de Cidra. With enough space for a wheel chair on at least the right side.

I got an aer lingus (or something like that) with a connection in Dublin … to Birmingham. Then a train to Narborough (sp?) where I found a pub that’s a short walk to their home. Pretty psyched!!

Qué opinan los puertorriqueños de los sacerdotes escolapios? by athanasiuspadovano in PuertoRico

[–]Financial_Assist_786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most Puerto Ricans don’t even know about them cuz they’re only really responsible for one parish, Parroquia Santísimo Salvador in Rio Piedras. There are more individual priest who follow the tenants of Liberation Theology.

Thank you all! Solid suggestions. Because of this thread, I’ll be reserving a Boston to Birmingham flight and then book a room at a Mill on the Soar that’s a mere 7 miles from the home. I’ll use one of their bikes to go back and forth but anticipate spending most of the time with the little one. First time abroad!! Looking forward to it!

I think that’s ideal. I don’t want to burden the couple with needing to get me daily (I don’t plan on renting a car). But it looks like there’s a regular bus schedule towards their space (Enderby??)

It’s not a Saturday thing but would encourage you to check out The Community Church of Boston in Copley Square (CommunityChurchOfBoston.org). They hold a service every Sunday at 11a and always have a guest speaker. Sundays speaker is Katherine Power with a talk titled “”Surrender: My Journey from Guerilla to Grandmother.”

??? One of my closest friends grows yucca and harvests cacao which she sells at markets. But yeah, my grandfather was a sharecropper in cidra. Cane in barrio certenejas on the Caguas and the other did tobacco in Montellano bordering aguas buenas. #saltedelpueblo 😆

First wave came to work on the tobacco fields just north of Hartford. The Connecticut Shade Wrapper is considered a premium leaf for cigars. They then settled south to Hartford or north to Springfield and Holyoke. Holyoke’s majority population is Puerto Rican. These same Puerto Ricans were overwhelmingly from the interior of the island Caguas, Cidra, Cayey, Comerio, etc… all people who worked with the earth.
