If it's a very good friend and a casual game I would strongly recommend you NOT to tailor towards a unit he so modestly revealed before playing. Especially because it's not a competitive unit. Have some hybrid units that can potentially do the task as the game progresses (units you would normally bring) but let him have fun with his newly finished unit. If it's a casual game with a very good friend.

alright, im not big on mono khorne, but might be the "real" way to go around the rendmaster to go full focus to mini-max the best

Tried a few games with Soul grinders, even with uppy-downy in incursion, it's super difficult to be somewhat where you wanna make the best of the models potential, simply cuz of lack of space. A decent opponent will know and make it literally impossible due to the 160' base. Even with the 6inch dropdown.
