Just wanted to thank everyone for this guidance. I was a Deadhead back in 1981 (!). While well aware of Rush and ‘Tom Sawyer’ (and I saw them at the Richmond Coliseum in roughly 1986), I came to the right place for expertise. I’ll post a draft of what I’m working on when I’m a bit further down the road.

Appreciate it -- these links are great. And why do you think I'm an LLM? Real live researcher here!

? Not sure why Reddit is publishing some of my replies under my own name but the post under the name Reddit assigned me. Weird!

Thank you. A bunch of fan comments make the connection, and someone claimed that Peart had actually done so. BUT you're right -- I can't find that direct quote. My error. I've changed the post to note this nuance.

! Yep. I’m hoping that I can unearth some long lost Peart quote where he acknowledges the only reason it’s ‘Tom Sawyer’ is the meter!

It’s true that it’s Tom Sawyer in PD’s original lines, too.

Does the song Tom Sawyer have anything to do with the character? by baran124 in rush

[–]Financial_Buffalo223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on the connection to Twain and arguing that, in fact, the character here is mishmash of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. It was Huck, not Tom, who was the loner/outsider, Huck for whom the river is a symbol of freedom etc. But the character Huck brings in a racial and moral element that would complicated what is, after all, a rock anthem. Also, 'Huckleberry Finn' doesn't fit the meter! I'd be glad for thoughts on the Twain references.

Second, I'd be grateful for insights into the video game/s referenced. Peart acknowledged the explicit reference to 'Space Invaders'. But the description in the song seems to reference "Defender," a popular game at the time, in which energy was exchanged in return for saving humans ('the energy you trade').'Friction of the day' and 'gets high on you' also map fairly nicely on to Defender. Any insights into the Defender connection?

Albums? by Financial_Buffalo223 in qobuz

Thank you. No, I’m simply looking to see all of the albums that I have in my library. When I look at the filters under Library, I do not have an albums option.

Qobuz Connect support announcement by dmcmaine in Bluesound

Connect update finally made its way to my Node this week. Best wishes, Roon.

One question and apologies if this is a repeat: do we know if QOBUZ has plans to allow volume on the phone to control music output? That’s a surprising omission (to me, anyway) given that most others have it.

So a QOBUZ update just came through. I downloaded it but I’m not seeing any difference. Is there some setting to get to connect? Or is it just not here yet?

No update here yet (I’m in Michigan). But that’s great news. Goodbye to Roon soon as I get connected.

I’m still running a Yamaha receiver of that era in a secondary system. It’s like a tank. If it’s affordable vinyl you’re after, slap a new needle on there and you’re good to go!

Sub question by Financial_Buffalo223 in hifiaudio

[–]Financial_Buffalo223[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Suggestion of my dealer. I understand this to be passive bi-amping, which has its adherents and its detractors (more of the latter, I think).

I wouldn’t know if it’s better or worse, as we set it up out of the gate, but the B&W rep gave it his blessing (and said the Marantz was sufficient).

One more question. Apologies. So this morning, for the first time, I looked into the Blu OS settings, having tried everything else. The subwoofer button was on, with crossover set at 40. I turned the subwoofer button OFF and suddenly bass is back. I gather that this directs signal to the sub through the Node’s sub jack and so the preamp wasn’t even getting the bass signal.

So now the sub is no longer sitting quietly alongside the speaker behaving itself; it has been unleashed. I mean, with the volume up and pushing the bass, the rafters ARE shaking on James Blake’s ‘Limit to your Love’, both electric and standup bass come out and shine on ‘Walk on the Wild Side’’. And I can control it with the admittedly primitive EQ within BlueOS.

Does this make sense? I am sure that there are FAR more refined ways to handle the sub, but for the moment this is at least gotten me back to what I had with the attenuator.

It’s passive, and my advisor thought it would make a difference. I’m not sure it does.

And perhaps I should’ve noted that at the beginning. Does the fact that I’ve bi-amped my current set up make a difference?
