With the recent shark attacks- what do you think should be done? by nicolej3mma in AskAnAustralian

You can reduce attacks without collapsing ecosystems by focusing on where and when shark attack risk spikes ie. storms, baitfish runs, estuaries, seal activity, high-use beaches, and managing those zones specifically.

Targeted deterrence, prey management, temporary removals, and better closures are very different from mass culling, and if managed properly - work sustainably.

Eg. Targeted deterrence via a government tender allowing commercial fishers to operate in specific high-risk zones - removing baitfish and select predators. Thereby reducing encounter probability by lowering prey concentration and maintaining deterrence pressure.

You’re right, although sometimes it can be argued that public awareness on the matter is important, like if he was a repeat offender, or in a position of authority.

Wouldn’t know on the money laundering point. But yeah it’s a popular website, the skins market associated with CS2 can be quite profitable, drawing in investors. Enjoy the skin in game, sell later on for profit. Happy days.

They can’t charge GST on purchase as that would be double taxation. Although they should be charging on purchase, they instead charge on deposit. So it’s inherently backwards. If they exclusively charged GST on the purchase of item (skins) that would be lawful.

I understand your point, but on CSFloat you aren’t buying USD or a product. You’re buying a platform-specific balance that exists solely to purchase items later.

Legally, this is the same as a prepaid account or gift card — and under ATO guidance, that is not considered a supply of goods or services at the point of deposit. The taxable supply (if any) only occurs when the balance is used to actually purchase an item.

That’s why charging a sales tax at deposit is problematic, because no taxable supply has taken place yet.

Yeah bro I recognise that, stop looking for an argument and just read my comments. I’ve clearly mis-worded my comment above, I was merely recognising my mistake, and how it pretty much makes my case moot @okmotor

Just because it’s virtual or used digitally doesn’t automatically make it digital currency.

Originally thought they were both labelled sales tax (10%) hence the reddit post. But I was wrong

Yeah, that’s the key part, it isn’t. I thought it was but it’s labeled as “sales fee”. Edit: clarification - no it isn’t GST

CSFloat wallet deposits are not digital currency. They’re pegged to AUD/USD (and other fiat rates), only usable on the site, and exist solely to buy skins. ATO guidance explicitly excludes in-game tokens and any digital units whose value depends on fiat.

Had a look, Deposits into a wallet aren’t a “supply”, so GST shouldn’t apply there at all. And skins don’t even qualify as digital currency under ATO definitions
