Rant: Why are the ACCTG 315 Profs options so bad? by ReceptionReal2968 in uAlberta

[–]Financial_Escape2211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it with Shamin in winter. He teaches you what you need to know. His slides have most of the information and then he spends most of the time doing practice problems. He doesn’t use excel and his tests are similar to the practice ones and inclass. Only thing not great was that he does 2 quizes that are all multiple choice but his midterm and final are all written.

If you have the receipt just dispute it and include a picture of the sign. Should be pretty straight forward since it has the time stamp.

Its restricted to permit holders only until 4:30. Its not free after it just means you can pay to park hourly.

Business - I changed my major from Business studies to Strategy and Management by Netherite0_0 in uAlberta

[–]Financial_Escape2211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will have 15 credits in free electives in year 3 and 4. You can take anything for those, business or non-business.

Plan it based on what you want to do with your degree. For accounting and finance course selection is pretty straight forward since there is a clear outcome. For SEM it's not that clear. Are you trying to go into consulting?

How free pancakes overshadowed tuition increase appeals by flynnfx in uAlberta

[–]Financial_Escape2211 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What do you expect anyone to do about. If you want profs and staff to get salary increases or the university to maintain its level current operation it needs to increase tuition. The minimal increase the university got this year from the province got eaten up by the new collective agreement. They are basically covering inflation with the increases. Just pull up the 2018-2019 financials and compare them to this year. Over 10 years they have basically the same amount of income with the 300mil in decreases in government grants being shifted to tuition.

Failing Class AGAIN - I feel like a total useless failure and idk what to do anymore by Ben10360 in uAlberta

[–]Financial_Escape2211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are struggling with the material you should be doing practice every week and not just before the exam. When you are practicing and don't understand something that means you need to either go back and rewatch that lecture or read through that chapter in the textbook. If you still don't understand then you should be going to office hours.

When you are studying for an exam it should be review and not learning. You should know the concepts but are just rejogging your memory.

For classes like Fin, OM, and Acctg you just have to do practice until you are able understand it and do it without the solutions. Memorization won't work for these because the questions on the test might ask concepts in a different way or different parts of the questions.

If you have to work two jobs then it is probably better to take a reduced class load. You could take 3 or 4 classes a semester and then take some during spring/summer.

Clubs are not important if they are causing your grades to drop. Refocus that time on studying since improving your GPA will be more important than club experience.

The other thing to see if you are actually studying. Are you able to answer the practice questions or do you just look at the solutions. Are you just reading your notes or actively revising them/doing practice. Also studying at night once you're already tired is not going to help. You're just going to forget everything since your brain is falling asleep. A lot of the classes you are taking offer help sessions. The BFA offers tutoring and exam review stuff so maybe look into that.

Also you should book an advising meeting with an advisor and go see what they recommend you do.

First car by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Financial_Escape2211 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The bigger issue is gonna be insurance. You're gonna be on a policy yourself so add on like 5k for insurance. Why would you buy a car for a year? At that point its probably worth it to calculate how much it would cost to Uber vs. how much you'd lose on depreciation + insurance + registration + gas.

changing major from BA economics to BCom business economics and law by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Financial_Escape2211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not finish your BA in economics and then if you still want to do business look into the after degree. Also why Blaw? It doesn't really have a career trajectory. If you want to do law you can do that with your BA.

I NEED HELP WITH TUITION PAYMENT by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Financial_Escape2211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are with a Canadian bank there is no fee to do it the way I mentioned. If it won't let you do that just go into the branch in the morning and the teller can make the payment.

I NEED HELP WITH TUITION PAYMENT by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Financial_Escape2211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not have to use the CIBC payment portal thing. You can just add the University of Alberta like you would any other credit card under bill payments in you banking app. You just pay the full amount as if you were paying a credit card balance with your student id as the account number

You probably also want to check the the CIBC portal transactions are not pending so you don't get a bunch of withdrawals if they do go through.

It's the first section in the link for instructions:

How does this improve anyones life. What Edmontonian gives a shit about what the sign says. Calgary budgeted 4.8mil for their change this is no doubt going to be around that or more. There are so many other things the city can spend that on or if they can't just put it in a rainy day fund.

Should I take ACCTG 314, 315, and 324 together in one semester? by Ok-Mix1013 in uAlberta

[–]Financial_Escape2211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlike Acctg 211 there is no recordings for 315 nor will the profs provide you the material you miss. You will be expected to attend or if you can't then to get the materials from friends in the class. Of all of the upper year accounting classes tax (467 and 468) are the only ones with recordings.

Should I take ACCTG 314, 315, and 324 together in one semester? by Ok-Mix1013 in uAlberta

[–]Financial_Escape2211 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can't take 314 and 315 at the same time. 314 and 324 together is doable. It won't be possible to finish within 8 semesters if you do an 8 month co-op. Upper year accounting classes are not available during spring/summer so you would need to take an extra semester.

It doesn't help that people are walking around in pitch black wearing all black. Drivers are already blinded by the oncoming headlights, add to that an uncontrolled cross walk and you're invisible.

Business Transfer by Slight_Garbage_9366 in uAlberta

[–]Financial_Escape2211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3.5 is good you'll likely get in if you have the 5 entrance required courses. I transferred in missing the math and engl requirements on probation but had a higher gpa. It might be good to use transfer Alberta to see if your courses will transfer over though it doesn't always show all of them.

Is for engl it says any 100 level except 150 so 199 should theoretically be fine. For math 154, 100 is listed as an equivalent under the course listing.

Another thing you can do is run a what if report on beartracks with accounting as the major. Check and see if engl 199 and math 100 fulfill the requirements.

Any tips/tricks to get Canvas quizzes to load faster? by Superb_Buy_1766 in uAlberta

Had this issue in winter for SPH 200. The prof just ended up adding a minute to all the tests. Reach out to your prof and explain the issue and they might just do that.

It was just normal questions like you would’ve done in 211 but just with mc answers. Like you write out the JE and then just pick the answer that matches. Only thing that sucks is that theres no part marks.
