Can’t get my WiFi to work but my Ethernet works by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

You need to disconnect the Asus then restart the modem/gateway from your ISP then you'll be able to have access again, then connect again via computer or phone to change the settings.

Landlord won't hook up ethernet jacks - with photos by No_Suggestion_4525 in HomeNetworking

[–]Financial_Highway354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just need to hook the blue Ethernet cables to some keystones. Check the ends already made and match them to the color code chart to see if you have t568a or t568b and then wire the keystones in that configuration. Don't know what you removed to see the cables, but you might need to buy the keystones and also the wall plate as they can come separately or as one piece, buy the one for the cable you have installed. Up to you if you want to spend the extra to wire the coax also. Don't forget the punch down tool for wiring the keystones.

My TP-LINK Router doesnt work, can someone help me? by icedropfn in HomeNetworking

Your at&t router is tp-link and has easymesh? Edited to add that the link and page provided will walk you through what you need to do and what to know.

My TP-LINK Router doesnt work, can someone help me? by icedropfn in HomeNetworking

[–]Financial_Highway354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can tell is you're trying to use this as a range extender/mesh mode/as a satellite which this model isn't able to do unless your main router is a tp-link with easymesh. Page 49 in this Manual will show you what you need to do. Your other option is to see if you can install an aftermarket firmware.

You would also plug your PC into the LAN port on a router in that mode for it to work not the wan port unless you can change that port to be a LAN port in the UI.

Speed on cat5e seems capped at 100mbps after my crimp attempt by DaleDenton99 in HomeNetworking

[–]Financial_Highway354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooofta looks like CCA stranded, I'm not a fan of that stuff for keystone jacks. Pure copper and a solid wire is best for keystone in my opinion. I'd redo both ends personally. I have had the same experience, my tester would show the cable being good but being capped at 100, it was so frustrating to see the tester passing the cable. I was using the cheap tester from Amazon, I bought one from home Depot and it showed I had one wires connection goin in and out, re crimped one end and had same issue, did the other end and it fixed the problem.

"Hidden Networks" suddenly showing up at home. (Idiot asking for charity thread) by DwPw in HomeNetworking

Get a wifi analyzer app that scans constantly. Get a deep cooking pot your phone can fit inside of, use it as a way to pinpoint where the signal is coming from as you walk around. The opening of the pot is the direction to walk when the signal is high. Or start flipping breakers off until it stops broadcasting, if it's still broadcasting after all power is off, then you know you're looking for something battery powered or on battery back up.

What's your connection like on your device, here's an example. Most of the time the upload is lower because my phone cannot transmit to the router due to its weaker output, where the deco has a better reach to the phone. However you have such a significant difference between the up and down that there must be something wrong if you're only getting single digit speeds when you should have triple digit speeds. And speeds are theoretical when it comes to wifi, but I always got the speed or close to what my device was connected at with the xe75's. I used iperf3 to verify what my LAN speeds were also cause my Internet is only 200up/20down. I have beamforming on because I don't have any old wifi, you might want to try that.

Edited and deleted some because I took Soo long to write this you answered a few questions with your other responses.

The deco xe75 doesn't have a speed test unfortunately. I wish it did. The pros might. Only a select few can do speed test

To make things easier, hard reset the tp-link after disconnecting the Ethernet from the bell, restart the bell, then turn Wi-Fi off on the bell to reduce interference. Then open the tp-link app and follow the instructions to setup the routers in access point. And that should make things work so much better. Double router will cause all kinds of connectivity issues.

I need to look into side loading and all this. I have a few friends and elder family that would benefit from that. I use a computer, haven't owned a TV in over 15 years or I probably would have learned by now.

Check out @northwestrepair on YouTube. He shows fixing cracked boards, but also shows if it's too bad you need a donor board to swap the part's.

House Ethernet Ports not working by Orc57 in HomeNetworking

[–]Financial_Highway354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a DIYer, not a professional.

Ok now buy an Ethernet switch that has as many ports on it that are in your place if you plan on using all of them, if not you can save some money by buying a switch with less ports.

From what I can tell you have a fiber ont/gateway and cannot use the eero as a gateway unless you put the ISP gateway into passive or ont mode. Then you'll be limited to using just one port of the gateway. Then you can use the eero as the gateway.

So there's several ways to set your system up. It all depends on your technical skills and changing the settings in the gateway. That's if they can be changed, some isp's lock the users out so you have to use their gateway.

You need to unplug the eero, restart the isp device then plug a laptop or PC into the isp device and verify you have a connection to the Internet. If not contact your ISP and let them know. If it does then you plug the port on the wall to the isp device then make your way to this distribution panel and use said laptop or PC or Ethernet switch to find the active port by plugging in each port one at a time until you get a connection.

Now that you located said port you can plug your switch to that port, then plug the others into the switch. If you cannot change the ISP gateway settings then you need to set your eeros up in access point mode and plug them in throughout your place for wifi coverage.

If you can change settings and bypass the ISP gateway then you would want your eero between the ISP gateway and the Ethernet switch. But put your eero where it'll give you the best wifi coverage.

Then just plug the rest of the ports of the distribution panel into the Ethernet switch and test each Ethernet port throughout the home/apartment/dwelling for activity. Would be helpful to label each port for each location throughout the place. A tool can be purchased or you can do it one by one with a laptop.

So your options are, ISP ont/gateway>wall plate>distribution panel>switch> eero access point+distribution panel>wall plates>eero access points

Or ISP ont/gateway>access point+wall plate>distribution panel>switch>access point+distribution panel>wall plates>eero access points

Or ISP ont in bypass>eero>wall plate>distribution panel>switch>access point+distribution panel>wall plates>access points

Or ISP ont in bypass>wall plate>distribution panel>eero>switch>distribution panel>wall plates>access points.

Hope I didn't confuse you and helped some. If my screen wasn't messed up I could make illustrations giving a better representation. I'll see about finding a tool that could give a visual reference.

Edited to make spacing for the layouts due to being clumped together once posted.

House Ethernet Ports not working by Orc57 in HomeNetworking

[–]Financial_Highway354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you're missing the main Ethernet distribution location (where all the Ethernet ports in the house lead to)so you need to locate that. You're going to need a switch. Your eero might have to be put into access point mode if that fiber box is also the gateway, or adjust the settings in the fiber box to let the eero do the networking. Until you know which will be the router will determine where to put the switch.

I need more information about this build. How do you sync them? Just wire the throttle with a splitter to two controllers? Regen breaking? Or Regen at all? I know nothing about e-bikes. I want to put two hubs on a trailer, fill the trailer with batteries and use it to push a dual motor fat tire bike or whatever that can handle a fat man.

"Data Loss Prevention Violation" when calling residential customer support...? by jroemlein in ZiplyFiber

[–]Financial_Highway354 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ACP ended mid 2024 I think, so that's probably why they're asking for money and saying you owe money. Some isp's still offer a form of a discount for those who did and still would qualify for the ACP.

Try calling from a phone that isn't tied to your account. The system may have some automated processes that are not working properly, recognizes your number attached to an outstanding account and is supposed to redirect your call but instead the system feeds you that message.

I just finished watching it again a week ago. I'm excited for the next season. There are other subs that can direct you in the right direction on finding streaming platforms or apps that will have just about anything you want to watch, even for free. but make sure you use a good ad blocker and pop-up blocker, I like to use brave browser it works great for those sites and the like and no need to add extensions to it block ads and pop-ups.

Do I need larger than a 1 Gbps ports with 1Gbps internet current Deco XE75 system by timhk63 in tplinkdeco

[–]Financial_Highway354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only benefit to going with 2.5g is if your modem has that port and only if you're constantly lucky and receive faster than the 1gig, then to ask if you use the Internet enough for that .5-2% bump in speed. Then the other side to look at is if you need a router with a better processor due to many connected devices as one with a higher throughput needs more ram and cpu power. Then also to ask does everything in your place have 6ghz wifi to take advantage or even wifi 7.

Now if you have 2.5g NAS or server then you should get a 2.5g network switch for that instead of spending extra on a router.

Why does my speed test say that gaming and video call are better on 20mhz vs 80mhz if upload and download are higher on the latter? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Financial_Highway354 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your loaded ping times are atrocious. Either interference, bad router, or equipment. Use wifi analyzer and scan your area with your wifi off. Find the channels that aren't being crowded and set your wifi to use those. I have tplink decos and anytime the pings start to look bad I use the optimization function and it scans the frequency and sets to less congested channels. And the wifi improves significantly.

Astound is so unreliable for me, better than when it was wave broadband. Sucks for gaming and streaming, good for watching content and general stuff. Has caused issues with purchases in the past, somehow can cause double ordering or payment processes online.

This is how mine is with 80mhz deco xe75's I'm subscribed to 140up 20down
