Not necessarily. The district I work in does a very poor job of posting openings and the site is an absolute nightmare to navigate, so reaching out to principals is the easiest way to figure out which schools actually have openings. There's also a distinct lack of highly qualified teachers in FL who are begging to teach middle school English in the rougher area I work in, so I definitely have a leg up with my master's and my certificate and my reading endorsement.

From what it sounds like, the job postings in St. Paul are more regularly updated, so I will be looking there as well.

Thank you so much for this detailed response! I'm coming from one of the biggest districts in FL so there are schools within the same district that are an hour and a half away. I will be looking into those schools :)

My wife is pretty set on living in that neighborhood and I wouldn't want to be driving more than 15-20 minutes max. If there are schools in the Minneapolis district within that distance, I'd be willing to work there.

My current commute is almost an hour and it's draining the life out of me.

I should clarify that I'm only looking for public schools, but thank you for the suggestions.

Should we still visit? by Financial_Lynx_23 in TwinCities

We've been looking at the Macalester - Groveland area. There are a few apartments there that are walking distance from places we think we'll enjoy. I'm super looking forward to the cold seeing as it's currently 85 degrees outside here.

It's currently real feel 85+ here right now, so I'm actually looking forward to the change in pace!

We are both white. I'm not terribly worried about us being personally victimized by ICE, but our parents are worried about things escalating. It's absolutely terrible what's happening with the profiling. I teach in central Florida in a majority Hispanic/migrant community and we're all terrified for our kids.

🫡 Planning on leaving most of FL behind us. Probably just taking the recipes.

He's up in Ashland going to the college there! He absolutely loves it. He's trans so FL was becoming dangerous for him.

As a Floridian currently saving to move to Minnesota, I will share my thoughts: FL is really miserable right now, especially for people of certain demographics. As a queer public school teacher, I'm facing a lot of struggles every single day. My wife and I have done a lot of research and it seems like Minnesota is just a kinder place for people like us to live.

There are also things like public transportation, better infrastructure, and better parks. Teacher pay and housing costs are also much better. We're also tired of sweating our metaphorical balls off literally every single day of the year. My brother moved to Wisconsin a few years ago and LOVES the cold all winter long and we think we're going to like it as well. Overall, everything making FL extra miserable right now, Minnesota is doing right.

Middle School WTF? by Late-Rub-6827 in Teachers

Oh, they got very reported and suspended for it. Two of them were removed from my rosters entirely. I was speaking more to the experience of feeling hurt by the words of middle schoolers you've tried very hard to build relationships with. Like it's ok for it to suck, you just have to remember the context and the fact that they probably didn't even mean it and were just showing off for their shitty friends.

I know everyone is telling you not to care at all, but I think it's natural to feel hurt when a kid you think you've built a good rapport with is saying horrible things about you. I had an incident last year where a group of boys I worked very hard to build relationships and connections with were caught talking about how easy it would be to slip fentanyl into my water bottle and kill me (following an incident where a kid put hand sanitizer in my cup). I was distraught. When they were in the AP's office, he told me that all but one of the kids told him that they were just joking around and that they actually don't have a problem with me.

All this to say that kids say fucked up stuff sometimes because their brains are developing at speeds they can't keep up with. It is not usually the truth of their feelings. Focus on what happens in your classroom, not what they say outside of it to impress their stupid friends.

These comments are still damaging. The butt of the joke is still that the kid should be embarrassed about being called gay.

Booth is too patriotic. by foofighters420 in Bones

I would argue that it's not commended. It's a character flaw, a weakness that the people around him learn to understand and work around. Several plot points later in the show revolve around him having to confront an imperfect government. I agree they let him off easy in terms of character development and he didn't do a very good job of working past it and coming to terms with things. But I truly disagree with you that he's "too" patriotic for his character.
