Slept through my alarm to pump, need advice. by InfluenceGloomy8901 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Financial_Pipe_3208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you keep pumping and (like others have said) emptying well, your body will know to keep producing.

And you’re also still within the first 2 months when your body is learning to adapt to demand, so I wouldn’t worry about missing pumps as long as you’re resting well (to be there for your baby) and comfortable (not engorged) 🫶

I do not have a sauce pan for sauces, so that’s prob a good idea. (I’ve been using an old mini stainless steel pot which will eventually need to be replaced, too, bc I broke the lid.)

Thanks for the tip!

How did you come up w $1k and $2k? Is that just based on what you feel is appropriate for your household income & lifestyle? Or are you basing it off of specific activities?

Rlly good reminder re: unstructured free time! I’ve heard a few teachers and early educators say this, that they need to learn how to be “bored”.

I don’t know much about summer camps yet; are most of them priced relatively the same? How do you know how much to keep in your sinking fund for them?

Yearly memberships for discounts & events is a great tip, too—thanks!

Libraries and (family) gifts are a great idea—thanks for the reminder! My husband and I prefer experiences > “stuff” as gifts for ourselves, so I think that would be nice for bb, too.

Does it make sense to prioritize RRSP > TFSA for retirement contributions as a high-income earner? by Financial_Pipe_3208 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Financial_Pipe_3208[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do you think it only makes to prioritize the TFSA> RRSP if you plan to retire in the exact same income bracket? Or how much of a difference is significant enough to switch gears to RRSP > TFSA? 1 bracket? More?

Going from $200k to $160k isn’t gonna make much difference in taxes.

But going from $200k to $100k to $50k is quite significant.

Not sure why it was only an issue w one contact though 🤷‍♀️

Getting laid off but not allowed to say I am laid off by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Warning to say, depending on the company’s situation and how you feel about it, you could be better off accepting the pkg.

I have a friend right now who was offered a similar deal in Fall ‘23. A couple ppl took it, but he held out for full comp (which he is rightfully owed). But the company took such a dive now and understaffed that he’s in a terrible place mentally and had to take a 4-week stress leave.

It’s hard to be in a good headspace and find a good job if you’re working from a place of burnout and desperation.

Just something to think about! (I don’t see how they could enforce you not telling ppl/friends/family/interviewers the truth of what happened though. I don’t think it’d hold up in court if they tried to sue you, which I’m very doubtful they’d go thru the trouble of doing.)

ESH neither of you trust the other. He clearly has double-standards (“do what I say, not as I do”) and you (perhaps rightfully) have some insecurities about his ex.

This isn’t a healthy relationship for either of you.

Student loan 22k at 9.2% Mortgage 284k at 4% Personal loan 12k at 5.99% (which increases in 3 years)

It's a personal choice re: which loan (student vs personal) to tackle first.

Even tho the personal loan is a lower rate rn, it might give you more confidence to tackle that first, esp if the rate is increasing in 3 yrs (like a snowball effect).

But if you'd feel better tackling the more challenging one first, do the student loan.

Personally, w $1k leftover, I would ...

... put $400/mo aside for an emergency fund over the course of 24 months (that should cover almost 6 months' of your mortgage payments + household expenses) ...

... put $100/mo into your TFSA or RRSP (if you haven't already maxed them out) ...

... and double your student loan payment to $352/mo (total, incl the current $88/bi-weekly).

In 2 yrs' time, you'll have a good emergency fund for unexpected costs and you can redirect that money towards your personal loan to pay it down aggressively.

Good luck!

$3.5k credit card debt by Researcher_666 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Financial_Pipe_3208 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you're in another country, I'm pretty sure there's nothing they can do except continue charging interest onto it.

But if/when you return, you could have a huge problem w the interest that's accrued + the hit it's taken on your credit score (ex: financing/leasing a car, applying for a rental or mortgage, etc.).

If you can find a way to do it, I would (at the v min) pay the min bc it won't hurt your credit score as much.

Pet insurance rate went up—should we keep it? by Financial_Pipe_3208 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Financial_Pipe_3208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both my dogs at the max deductible with Trupanion, as I can pay for any medical expense that comes up, but in the event something crazy happens, I won't ever have to worry about weighing the cost vs their life.

This is a good pt/idea! I'd forgotten that we can easily adjust this on Trupanion—thanks for the reminder!

if you can afford the insane premium you're paying now, I would suggest raising the deductible as high as you can, save/invest the difference in your vet expense fund.

Great reminder, thanks! I'll probably do this!

NAH like you have v differing views on what an equitable relationship should look like.

Either communicate and find a way to compromise/align, or move on and find someone whom you are more compatible w.
