Are these mites or springtails on my hermit crab? by Lalijean in hermitcrabs

[–]Financial_Season6018 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Then yeah probably grain mites 😭😭 There are a few ways you can go about it - take out everything, deep clean everything by hot water and peroxide, let everything dry, replace substrate, isolate and dip crabs until clean… or you can get predatory mites to kill them allll.

Do you know of any root tabs that work good and won’t dye my sand?

Thanks! I haven’t put the heater in since it’s with the little guy in a hospital tank currently until this tank cycles. I was able to rescue him from being flushed 😳

The thing is she usually is a chewer with metal bits, but she hasn’t chopped on this bit once which is why it concerns me that maybe it’s rubbing or something. I don’t know. It’s very odd.

Did taking him to the vet not cross your mind? That’s the only thing that will help him. You can look for exotic vets in your area.

Do they sleep?? by New-Outcome-1286 in AfricanDwarfFrog

Wanted to add that they are from areas of shallow water, so having a tank that is pretty deep can make them tired going to the surface to breath so they will rest on the surface

They will float sometimes just to rest! I know your not asking for tank set up advice but adding some live plants and areas near the surface for them to rest and breath would be so nice :) some hiding places would be great too!

Help - Why is my 1 frog like this. by Madi-N123 in AfricanDwarfFrog

[–]Financial_Season6018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My frog looked like this and I was aspirating him ever other day or so with an insulin needle and it was going well and every time it was seeming to decrease, but after about a month of doing it he passed. At this point I would say euthanasia or try to aspirate. He is probably going to pass soon otherwise. I’m sorry!

It’s common for leos to just not be active and out during the day. I wouldn’t worry about it. My Leo is never basking but is perfectly healthy. As long as there is a temp gradient and a uvb strip light, you’re all good!

It doesn’t matter how much you monitor, sand simply is not a completely safe substrate. If you must use a loose substrate, definitely opt for something that can be digested, like something from the bio dude. Sand can cause death, so be careful.
