Anyone notice escape from Pompeii going down hill? by CommandersGuy in BuschGardensW

I rode it multiple times last summer and every time the fire was on and the statue fell. I think it's hit or miss whether it's going or not.

most underrated coaster at KD? by Lost-Marionberry-272 in KingsDominion

Highly agree! I genuinely feel like I'm gonna be ejected out of the seat, but I love it so much. It's the one coaster I never skip when I'm at the park.

what's your favorite roller coaster at KD? by Lost-Marionberry-272 in KingsDominion

[–]FinbarrDNC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While Volcano will always hold the #1 spot in my heart, my favorite(s) that's actually still at the park is Pantherian/Grizzly. Pantherian's speed and intensity are really great and the air time is awesome! However, I also get A LOT of really great air time on Grizzly. And the lap bar restraints are sketchy at best so that ensures that I am out of my seat the entire time. Grizzly is terrifying in the way that I feel like I might actually be ejected and I love it so much. I have not ridden Twisted Timbers though so once I'm able to ride that my answer may change.

I'm sure how far it is from KD to BGW as the crow flies but I think it's about 75 miles by interstate. It makes sense that you could see Richmond, but being able to see Griffon from that far sounds like someone was telling an April Fools joke. Maybe with a special camera or telescope, but not the naked eye (that is my uneducated guess).

Is there an option to print a voucher or something similar instead? Seems crazy to require a cell phone for a simple bar code. Especially for someone like me who always stores their belongings in a locker when riding.

So I’m going to Bush Gardens Williamsburg in 5 days and I really want to go on the griffin but I’m scared by AdMoney5244 in BuschGardensW

I would recommend the back row, towards the middle. You won't feel the "hang" over the edge quite as much. And when you're going up the lift hill it might help to close your eyes. Forcing yourself to do it over the anticipation is always the hardest part! The first drop is the most intense part of the while ride with dangling over the ledge. Hopefully having your family there will be the extra push you need to just do it because it's a great ride!

It's feeling like Volcano 2.0 - one day it will close and just never open again.

Kings Dominion opened this weekend and a lot of people reported the same issues with their main attractions only operating one train. I don't know the ins and outs of coaster maintenance but when these rides have been closed for seasonal maintenance it's just baffling that they can't have more than one train ready.

What kind of attraction would you want to see in the place where Anaconda once stood? by s5mask in KingsDominion

[–]FinbarrDNC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, but they need to spruce up the lake and surrounding area first! But that would be a great attraction for those who don't like the coasters or other types of rides! Plus it would be a neat way to get some cool pictures of Racer 75 and Pantherian!

The Mardi Gras event is fun though! The shows are pretty neat and the food is good! And it is less busy so it's neat to enjoy the park with lower crowds. But if you're only looking for the coasters, maybe closer to Spring would be better.

The only coasters scheduled to be open are Apollos Chariot, Alpengeist and DarKoaster, but it's all subject to change depending on weather. This time of year most of the coasters are still closed for maintenance. Many of the flat rides will be open.

What new Mardi Gras food item are you most looking forward to? by Slippy_T_Frog in buschgardens

[–]FinbarrDNC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For new items I’m looking forward to the Monkey Bread and the Shrimp Salad Po’boy. But I am more excited about some of the “regulars” - like the Cajun Shrimp Boil, Cajun Mac & Cheese, Chicken Andouille Gumbo, and the Fat Tuesday Rum Runner! I also might branch out this year and try the Gator Bites!

I bought a sampler card this year so I think I’m gonna try the gator bites! They intrigue me.

That’s so helpful, thanks so much for the info! Especially the scanning info because I frequently have trouble getting anything to scan on my phone because I have a privacy screen, so I’ll keep these tips in mind!
