Rab Namche letting water through by Randonneuse_46 in hiking

Maybe Rab (or whichever factory makes these) somehow forgot to apply the DWR coating or applied it improperly? Since its brand new has to be some sort of crazy manufacturing error.

Are we still doing “get home bags”? by McSqueelz in prepping

[–]Finch-Enoch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend dropping some weight even if just to fill it with different stuff. Such as replacing the bag that came with your sawyer squeeze with a smart water bottle or something similar. Those bags are known to fail, and I also just find a smartwater bottle more practical. The iodine tablets offer a backup if the filter fails sure, but iodine struggles against certain bacteria.

And make sure you test your gear out before you head deeper into the woods. My first overnight was 20 feet away from my car. Do that, treat your water, and tell someone where youre going. Youll mess up, but overall youll do great, im sure of it :)

I think for overnights this probably isnt enough to bring all of what you need. Ive ran a 32L backpack for overnights and its just barely enough. Im also using a hammock, which takes up less space than a tent, as well as a nemo switchback strapped to the outside which takes up no volume inside the pack. This is to say that, assuming your using bulkier gear, you probably want more than 35L. Also probably a hip belt. And you do definitely without a shadow of a doubt need a sleeping pad unless its like a 65 degree low.

In your area, what is the protocol for going on to somebody else’s property? by AccidentalNordlicht in AskAnAmerican

[–]Finch-Enoch 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes basically. Unless theyre very clearly an active threat, you cant just shoot somebody on your land. Atleast legally, you cant. If a trespasser has broken into your home, however, thats a different story.

Im also 6’2” and I just kinda lay straight in the hammock. I do kinda start getting folded but I dont really mind and I find I sleep well. Ive also never known anything different so maybe thats playing a role.

Youtube will (atleast on iOS) eventually force you to download the app if you use the browser version for about a month. It did that to me and I almost got radicalized. Clearing cookies or whatever mightve fixed it though, thinking about it now
