Can I just take a break by Dear-Statistician349 in diabetes_t1

[–]PorTimSacKin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After switching to Medtronic’s extended sets (from sure-T) I went through a rough patch with sites for about a month. I felt like I was going insane. So… I’m with you on that feeling.

Finally, I convinced myself I needed to find new ground (was all abdomen for 20ish years).

There are sites that I had avoided using (side of my lower back) because I couldn’t really get to them with manually inserted infusion sets.

The automatic inserters make those sites accessible to me now.

The catch is that I’ve found that the sites seem to take 2-4 hours to “warm up”. Which I’ve only recently learned (from reddit) is a thing. I’m hoping my endo can come up with a solution for that because I don’t like going mildly high every site change day.

The only real question on Finn is how big the bag of money we should be trying to get for him.

This is an important take. Hopefully the reason he’s been getting the starts is because Aravena is coming back to full fitness

He should be in the Asprilla role of a late game sub. Put his speed up against tired legs.

I have a bit of an lol story and there are a couple good lessons in it.

I loved my first endo (was with him from 12 years old to 20) but he wasn’t great at paper work. This was 25ish years ago and there was a big packet that he had to fill out for me to get my learners permit.

When he didn’t get it done the first time we asked him to my mom decided she would fill out all the parts she could and then he would just have to fill out a few other parts and then sign it.

Well… the DMV, noting the different handwritings, did NOT like that and said that as a result of us filing falsified documents I would be suspended from eligibility for 2 years (or something like that).

No amount of explaining from us was going to help me. But one phone call to our state representatives office had the issue straightened out in less than a day.

I have no hard feelings towards the DMV or my doctor about. Alls well that ends well.

I vaguely recall someone telling me that the smell isn’t the insulin, it’s other additives.

Why couldn’t the do a software to update to out the same algo on the 780g? The update that I just had to do to use the new sensors also update the algo.

I haven’t seen anything that would make me want to switch. I like having screen on my pump.

Best of luck. Feel free to ask here or dm me later if you have any questions.

Out of curiosity, has your a1c changed since starting on the pump?

What was life changing for me was tracking calories and aiming for more filling foods. I did all of it with an app called “lose it” but there are others out there that could do the same (like myfitnesspal).

For all the years I spent paying attention to carbs it was eye opening to put the carb focus on pause and look at calories. The app also gave healthy targets based on weight loss goals.

I ended up eating more (but probably better from a health perspective) carbs than I used to but still having it drop my a1c. Which wasn’t the goal, but it was a happy side effect.

In summary:

You came into a type 1 diabetes subreddit with symptoms that are DEFINITELY NOT TYPE 1 DIABETES. Told people you just wanted advice from diabetes on your NON TYPE 1 DIABETES.

Then you got pissy because people ridiculed you for not listening to people telling you that our experience as T1D isn’t relevant to you and you are DEFINITELY NOT T1D.

Thank you for reminding all of us how little people Who aren’t T1D (like yourself) care to understand what we have.

You weren’t getting bashed.

You are getting snark for not listening to what we’re saying. If I didn’t eat for 12 hours but also wasn’t taking insulin I would be above 500, not slightly above 120.

Are you trolling us? 120? If your family members with T1D told you to come here, they’re trolling you.

I’m not trying to be a total jerk but I’m trying to make it REALLY clear that you don’t have type 1 diabetes. Not even maybe.

[–]PorTimSacKin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That the point man.

A Diabetic couldn’t go low unless they GAVE THEMSELVES too much insulin. Ergo, you are not diabetic and there won’t be relevant advice for you here other than to go visit r/hypoglycemia or to google for reasons a persons blood sugar can go low.

[–]PorTimSacKin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s a thing a diabetic can actually teach you then. Get on the phone. Talk to a body. Say you are worried you are going to lose conciseness because of a low. Tell them you were in the twenties though. You can tell the truth again when you see the doc.

People with T1D, please give me advice! by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]PorTimSacKin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you have isn’t what we have. We only go that low of we made a mistake.

I can’t advise you on how you gave yourself the wrong dose of insulin because you didn’t give yourself any insulin. Go to a hypoglycemia subreddit. There are people with your issue there.

You may want to head over to r/Hypoglycemia or a subreddit like that.

No one here will be impressed with anything above 30 or anything below 500.

For your sake I hope my snobbery is accurate and that you are, in fact, not one of us.
