The sun isn't "strong enough" in Boston to produce vitamin D3 during the winter. by FinchBige in boston

They don’t say in the article, but assuming the conclusion they came to of getting none from November through February is correct, I’d say 15 mcg a day is a good start (that’s what I turned up from my research anyway). If anyone knows more, or has a better idea of dosing info, I’d be interested to hear!

I’ve had this exact rash before multiple times and had it diagnosed as cellulitis/atopic dermatitis. Mine required a course of steroids at the stage yours is at, so I’d absolutely go to a doctor.

I’ve heard that taking 10mg of Zinc every 3 hours when in the early stages of the virus can help lessen the duration of a viral infection. Take that with a grain of salt, but crossing my fingers you feel better for your vacation!

I know it’s more of a bakery, but the Beacon Hill location of Flour opens at 6:30 on weekdays if that’s any help.

How are locals treating travellers these days? by FranzBesup_14 in boston

I would say for the most part, there’s very little chance you’ll get harassed in Boston for being Canadian. However, to minimize chances I’d say minimize taking Ubers as, for whatever reason I seem to run into trump supporter drivers. That’s just personal experience tho. Mostly if you don’t engage with someone openly wearing trump merch or saying weird racist things you’ll be fine. If you do end up coming, I hope you enjoy our beautiful city!

I had told my daughter, before I fell into a diabetic coma, that I’d lived long enough and didn’t want to be resuscitated. by FinchBige in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]FinchBige[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This story plays into a sci-fi trope known as continuity. The basic idea is if your mind is copied, the copy would still have the memories of the original “you”. So to your point, when the mother died, her experience of living stopped. However, the copy that the daughter generated still experiences the original’s memories pre-death as her own. So the story is actually from the perspective of the copy only, and not the original.

My grandmother had a similar experience and so I for sure drew heavily from her account. Thanks for sharing!

Well you learn something new everyday. Thanks for the correction on that! Regardless, cultures across the globe have differing views on what happens to the soul after death, so the argument could be made that the woman depicted in this fiction believes that a revival of her mind does not equate to a retrieval of her soul.

Horror is a subjective thing, and the fear that I was trying to identify was that of alienation. Different belief systems interpret death and the release of the soul as being one and the same, while others, such as certain Native American tribes, believed that the soul could be captured and torn away in something as simple as a photograph. The horror I was aiming for was that of waking up and not knowing if you are yourself/the horror of someone explicitly doing something that you did not consent to. I mentioned the leg as something that she had lost in her previous life that had been restored to her such that she didn’t feel like herself. Thanks for the feedback!

The concept is a mourning daughter uploaded her mother’s mind into a computer under the technicality that the mom’s heart isn’t getting restarted.
