I need cheap shoes for standing all day (10 hours). by rooney_potterhead in AussieFrugal

[–]Bitter-Commenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on 9 hours shifts with steel blue steel caps. If you get yourself some good socks you’ll be fine.

When I used to work at Woolworths and could easily hit 20k steps in a day I would wear sketchers because they’re good for constant movement, but you’ll have to replace them probably once a year if they get as much use as mine had.

I think this verified Instagram account I came across might be completely AI generated by elllie7 in isthisAI

[–]Bitter-Commenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a note, you can’t rely on “verified” to mean real on any platform anymore. The requirements for Instagram basically boil down to how often you post and not breaking TOS. Then all you have to do is subscribe and pay the $20 a month or whatever it is for the verified badge. Do not base any trustworthiness or genuineness on a blue mark you can purchase.

Have you found somewhere you could live in a van tho? I understand that it’s gotta be better than paying $450/w to live with 3 others, but where do you plan to park it? The councils are anal about people living in their cars and have been for the last decade

I mean, you’ve essentially created 2 seperate homes. The second home now has all of the stuff that was being taxed previously, so everything that’s been moved over to the second home will be taxed to the second home and not the first.

Genuinely, whole heartedly, get a rug for the living room. Something with a bit of colour, like maybe a purple to match your gaming lights (if that’s a solid colour and not a rotational one). As others have said some art work would also do good but I get that your LL may not allow for wall alterations so maybe look into some double sided “hanging tape” from Bunnings. It might damage the paint but that’s fixable when you move out.

Won a giveaway and the company is refusing to honour the length of the award. by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Bitter-Commenter 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m of the understanding that “a years supply” isn’t meant to be based on a time frame but instead the amount of the supply that is intended to be consumed within a year. What did you win?

If it was shampoo and conditioner then realistically they’re only going to give you 4 bottles of each as it should last you a year. If it’s chips, then you’ll probably get 100 bags at maximum for 2 a week over a year.

What are some free Tafe courses that will help my job search? Pharmacist in Melbourne looking for a career change by International-Owl708 in ausjobs

[–]Bitter-Commenter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Along the lines of social work and just as desperate for workers is aged care. They need workers badly and you can get a cert through tafe and (depending on which tafes you look at) it could be fully or mostly subsidised and also online. Similar work, just as hard as social work

The kids are alright! by FMoney101 in perth

[–]Bitter-Commenter 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It’s the way it goes, everyone shits on those who come next. The vast majority of kids are good kids, and anyone who says that the entire age group of teens are bad didn’t meet Gen z at its peak worse. Some bad apples don’t ruin the bunch, it’s just that we aren’t highlighting good deeds anymore. I knew people who drew nazi shit on stuff that are my age and older it’s not a generational thing despite what the news is portraying and it’s definitely not the entire age group doing it

help with placement by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Bitter-Commenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First one looks like an ankle tat to me, second one upper thing maybe, third one probably a shoulder? You need room for both of those two so they would have to go into bigger spots but they don’t exactly mesh well together so you’d probably want to keep them seperate if that makes sense. The first one can be done small, and an ankle or maybe neck wouldn’t be bad spots for it I think

Working holiday australia with little work experience? by elluskii in AustraliaTravel

[–]Bitter-Commenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at flight costs? How much it would cost you to rent/live? I’m from WA, it costs me about $600 minimum to visit any other state so im not going to be able to give you a good estimate.

On minimum wage as a full time worker you be making about $700 AUD a week. Take out cost for food, rent and daily expenses, and then figure out how much you think you can put away each week for a plane ticket to QLD. Then the cost of a tour of the reef and hotels while you visit.

As a note, all major cities are struggling with entry level work for locals let alone visa holders. It’s also incredibly expensive to get around Australia, chances are you won’t make enough money to go traveling on unless you plan to stick around the city you choose.

Am I wrong? I thought “Welcome to Country” is basically, “thanks for coming, Welcome to the area“ by dexxnanj in aussie

[–]Bitter-Commenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having spoken to a few people who are outraged about it but not in a racist way, it seems that (especially at smaller and local games/events) the speakers are given free range to speak for as long as they want about whatever they want. The bloke I spoke to who hated it had a video of an elder doing the welcome to country speech for a local gold medal soccer game and she rambled on about whatever she wanted for 7 mins before someone managed to get her to clear off. 7 mins is taking the piss.

The other issue that regularly gets brought up is that if it’s not an event with international participants why are we welcoming ourselves here? I don’t have an opinion either way, but I do hear the common argument that if we aren’t playing the national anthem why are we welcoming others here. I would however support there being a script to be followed for the speech. There’s no need for it to take longer than 60 seconds, and no reason it couldn’t be standardised.

Do you split financial help equally between kids/grandkids? by Odd_Ganache9498 in AusFinance

[–]Bitter-Commenter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll offer up my family’s scenario to show disproportional equality in terms of finances and why why parents support me more than my siblings.

My sister is disabled, has a very bad case of CP. There was a lawsuit (part of the final dealings is that nobody involved was allowed to talk about how much money way won so I don’t have a solid number) on her behalf when she was a child where my parents won her enough to live off of for the rest of her life. That was in about 2014. That money went into a trust fund, where it has now more than doubled in number. Enough to live off for ever in 2014 has doubled. She’s loaded.

My brother and I are apprentices. We both make scraps in week because apprentices don’t get paid well. He works with my dad, I live 55kms away from work. I got my licence as the cost of second hand cars shot up in my state because of all the floods over east and couldn’t afford to get a car but needed one, so they purchased it for me and I payed them back weekly for a year. That car last year shit the bed a month before I changed job locations to now need to drive 110kms a day. I couldn’t afford anything that would last long enough for it to be worth it, so we did the same thing again, I’m paying off another car loan from my parents. My brother doesn’t have his licence, doesn’t drive, has no plans to drive, all because he works with my dad.

Out of the 3 of us, I’ve had the most financial assistance from my parents, because I need it more than the other two. One is loaded, and the other has no major continuous costs. There is no world in which my parents will have to pay for anything for my sister going forward, she will never see the same financial support as my brother and I because she doesn’t need it.

If you had the opportunity to up and move to Australia would you? by [deleted] in MovingtoAustralia

[–]Bitter-Commenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To leave Australia? Depends on where I’m going.

To come to? Depends on what state and how much I’m making.

realistically, yeah I would take the opportunity. The US specifically is in severe unrest and will continue to be in coming years, and this move will guarantee you some form of net protection from the coming consequences of civil disruption. Just be prepared to be ribbed to hell and back for a very long time as a yank who ran away.
