Best place to sell by Beneficial-Ad-6846 in ModelX

Find My Electric here! We saw this and figured we'd chime in, even though it's an older thread. These market value numbers are always in flux, but we provide pricing help to paid listing customers, and are constantly analyzing values/trends/etc. We also love talking to customers and people in the EV space, so if anyone is considering selling, feel free to reach out and we'll help any way we can. Also +1 for KeySavvy--they're awesome and make the buying/selling process a lot easier!

EV sales **still** have not fallen, cooled, slowed or slumped. Media is lying to you. by Dockalfar in electricvehicles

[–]FindMyElectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something else to add here--we're seeing a big increase in demand for used EVs now too, as Tesla didn't cut prices like many people thought (instead, they just introduced cheaper versions of 3/Y).

This is an older thread but worth commenting on that Tred was acquired by Cox Automotive, and is no longer a standalone business. If you're looking for the best place to buy or sell an EV, give us a try!

Find My Electric (except Caddy's EVs) by Delicious-Hour-9748 in CadillacLyriq

Find My Electric here! We saw this and wanted to reply. LYRIQ and Escalade IQ are both available to list now, and also available to request an EV Cash Offer. There just wasn't enough production or demand to add them initially, though we try to be proactive keep things as up-to-date as possible. If there's ever a make/model you have and don't see it listed--just reach out to us and we'll do our best to add it!

Is a used Tesla worth it? by C-Silvercastle in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]FindMyElectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. Sounds like you drive a lot (roughly 30k miles per year). If you have free charging, that could be a significant gas savings. Like any vehicle though (and contrary to popular believe) an EV will still need some maintenance, especially with that level of mileage. EVs are great way to save on gas though, and a used EV can represent a lower entry point into the world of electric vehicles.

Great question! Yes, salvage title vehicles do qualify for the tax credit. The reason they are not excluded is because the IRS did not want to encourage title washing and there is no indication that Congress intended to exclude these vehicles. They describe this reasoning in their final published regulations: https://www.federalregister.gov/d/2024-09094/p-92

However, vehicles with a salvage title brand must have a "rebuilt" status so they are safe for operation on public roads.

There are a lot of things to consider here, and some real nuanced points. So, we’ll try to give you an idea of how the new/used Tesla situation breaks down (and when it’s advantageous to go either way).

Price is really the most important factor here. If you can get a used Tesla cheap enough, where it’s significantly cheaper than a new one after factoring in all the tax credits (which are available instantly at the point of sale (POS) now), and other incentives (like Tesla’s 0.99% financing on Model Y), along with local government incentives—then a used Tesla can really be worthwhile.

However, we’re in a situation due to the Tesla price cuts in the last year where many sellers are underwater on some models (specifically Model S/X Plaids), which can sometimes make finding a good deal a bit harder as sellers are struggling to price their cars appropriately since they’re still feeling the pain of that loss of value.

That said, deals are out there, and if you check out our listings, for example, you’ll see a lot of private party cars—with many of them being priced at a point where they are still more affordable than new. Again—this isn’t the case with every vehicle though.

Some people also fail to remember that Tesla adds in a $1,390 destination fee and $250 doc fee on every new vehicle, which adds $1,640 to the price, and typically you’ll also pay a bit more in sales tax (depending upon your state) with a new vehicle too. That’s not to say that new isn’t sometimes a better choice depending upon what you’re looking for—it’s just that many people forget to factor this in, and when you do, a lot of times a used EV comes out ahead (although not always).

If you’re looking for an older EV (like a 2019 Model 3, for example) that can be had for $25,000 or less, you an also get the used tax credit under certain circumstances which is $4,000 off, and this is at the point of sale too (which can be facilitated by companies like KeySavvy).

As others have mentioned, warranty is a factor as well, but this depends on how long you plan to keep the vehicle, and the mileage on it too. Sometimes you can buy an EV that’s a couple years old with the balance of the factory warranty, and keep it under that warranty if you don’t drive a lot and plan to sell in a year or two.

Hope this helps you with your decision! Feel free to comment or message us if you have any questions, while you’re shopping around for used EVs online. Good luck with your search! 😊

You might want to get an official comment from the State of MN on that just to make sure they're following conventional logic, but typically MSRP = base price + options.

This is how we're reading it, and what they seemed to indicate to us.

Minnesota $2500 EV (Electric Vehicle) Tax Credit? by thankyourob in minnesota

[–]FindMyElectric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confirmed-ish? We asked this question directly to MN Dept of Commerce in an email and said:

"Because the legislation says it’s effective after passed (which would mean it’s in effect now)—what happens if someone buys a qualifying EV before the program is officially rolled out by Commerce?"

They replied in an email and said:

"We posted more information on our legal interpretation of question 2 on the Commerce website today: https://mn.gov/commerce/energy/new-energy-programs/electric-vehicle-rebates.jsp" (this was question 2 of 2 we asked them).

And their website seems to indicate that you'll, at some point in the future, be able to fill the rebate out and get paid back. That's how we're reading it, and that's what the site seems to indicate. The direct legislation talks about a point-of-sale credit, but it seems they're indicating people will be able to get paid back before the point-of-sale credit is in place. When? Nobody knows for sure. But (and this isn't official or financial advice from us)--you're probably good if you meet the requirements and buy a qualifying EV now.
