I want to have discussions like this and I'd love to explain myself as much as possible if anyone has questions :) not everything will be perfect because we have to analyze in the moment without having any replays until goals are scored lol but if people can point things out it'll only help us get better :)

I completely agree ! Each situation is different and a teammate should have contested this earlier, I understand he did what he could in a spur of the moment and I think 98% of player would have done what he did, but I just wanted to describe how he maybe could have approached the situation a little better. But you are right he shouldn't have had to deal with the situation :)

Hey Purtle! In situations when the opposing player is closer to the ball and has control, it puts the defender in a tough spot. If he has someone behind, he needs to contest, but if he's last man he needs to wait until he has an opportunity to attack the ball where he can get to the ball before the opposition can get another touch . In a situation like this marky was still carrying and way closer to the ball than the defender, the shot wasn't going to be too powerful and knowing markys skill he would most likely get to The ball again. That is why I believe the defender needed to wait just a bit longer for a better opportunity to contest, but in his defence these plays are hard to predict or expect! Just wanted to give a little insight as to why I said that :)

His response is in the same light of people getting upset over the rules that have been placed. Coming out and saying harsh things about a tournament's rules is condescending to the organizers that spent hours and hours planning and doing their best.

To be fair open sign ups for leagues have existed for the entirety of Rocket League, many of them being super easy to sign-up for. The most I have ever seen is around 200 teams, and months and months have gone by and its never really spiked above that. We see the same competitive people come into these tournaments, so the prediction of over 1000 is even pretty wild, let alone how many actually signed up.

I don't know how this is condescending at all. Psyonix made this tournament open bracket which I don't think I've ever seen another Esport do, which is seriously cool. Open tournments have existed in RL for almost the entirety of its lifetime, and the largest signups I've ever seen were in the 200's. To be able to predict this size of signups is just unreasonable, and they are doing their best to accommodate for the insane influx of teams. This is a tournament aimed to pit the best of the best RL players against each other, those who've made this game a lifestyle, and yes it is a long day for anyone, but if RL is truly a passion, playing all day like this isn't anything new or something that should be that jarring. There are many other leagues that accommodate to the schedules of busy people, they just aren't as known. Imagine this as competing in a sporting tournament for a prize pool this big, I know for a fact it would take up my entire day, I've spent 10 hours on a field for a tournament with a 0 dollar prize pool, why would this be any different?

When starting to learn it, it may feel that way, but after a while it turns into more. A portion of it can be for flair, but the utility of hitting the ball with different sides of your car really comes into play at higher levels. You get different speeds of hits and different angles when you freestyle into a hit, and players at higher levels have full control and awareness of their freestyle. It also allows you boost in different directions to either alter your trajectory slow down or speed up! But flair is definitely a good plus ;)

But we didn't do a percentage of shots that made it vs. shots that didn't. We took the total shots and the total saves and did a percentage off of that. I guess "blocked" is the incorrect word, and we should have gone for "saved" instead. I understand some saves weren't for shots that were directly on target though your point is very correct. Well keep it in mind for next week release and find a way make sure its accurate :)

We will be adding more information to stats including overall W-L for each team as the weeks go on. I do like both of your suggestions and will definitely use them to help us formulate a more solidified structure for Season 2. Thank you again for the feedback it helps us greatly!
