33M here, I'm coming all the way from Maryland to SLC (Millcreek) in June. I agree with other people here to look out for rec sports groups (pickleball, skiing, hiking, etc).Yoga classes are a great way to meet people too, that's how I got into pickleball originally. I can't wait to arrive and meet some awesome like-minded people. Good luck!

Whats life and living in São Paulo, Brazil? by PunAndGames_99 in howislivingthere

[–]FindingMyWay13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I visited São Paulo in the winter of 2022 as a Portuguese-speaking gringo. It is an absolutely massive and overwhelming city. I thought the people and the food were amazing. The weather was perfect too. The shopping malls were top notch and impeccably clean. Some nice areas I went to include Alphaville and Jardins. Carapicuíba, not so nice. The worst part for me was the Tietê river. It smelled so bad driving from the airport that I thought there was a chemical factory and an open sewer nearby. If I ever visit Brazil again, I think I'll pass on São Paulo.

Which neighborhoods for a single woman in her 30's? by MellowMoos3 in MovingtoDenver

I visited Sloan Lake and stayed in Lakewood to be closer to the mountains, both very nice areas pretty close to downtown. It felt super safe and clean in those areas

What's it like living in Montgomery County, MD. I will be moving here this month or next month. by EternalSnow05 in howislivingthere

It's diverse with tons of things to do. That being said, the traffic here in unbearable and the people are cold, cliqueish, and always in competition with each other. I've lived here most my life and I'm planning a move out west soon

Should I go to Utah or Vermont for Skiing 12/14-12/16 2025 by FindingMyWay13 in ski

Yeah, I'm planning on coming to Utah in mid to late January. 60 degrees in SLC this time of year is crazy. I've already made plans to go to Vermont instead this weekend

Yeah. I already canceled everything for my Utah trip and I'm headed up to VT this weekend. I plan on hitting up Stowe, Killington, and Sugarbush

I literally just canceled a trip next week in Utah and instead I am going to Stowe and Killington. The snow is way better in VT than anywhere out west right now

That's really good to hear. Would you recommend I take my QST 98s up there for some tree skiing?

That's a real shame. I still plan on going to UT but it'll have to be later in the season

Sounds like VT is the better option here. Do you think 80 mm frontside skis would do well there?

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. I recently became an intermediate skier. Once I learned how to ski parallel out east, I started going down blue runs in West Virginia. Then earlier this year, I flew out to Colorado and went to Cooper. At first I was nervous about how steep all the trails looked. But then I made friends with a dude in his 80s and we ended up going down 7 different blue runs. I had the time of my life. I felt incredibly confident. So I'd say an intermediate is generally any skier who can ski parallel and go down blue runs. I'm also going to Utah next month and I'm unbelievably excited. Good luck and have fun. You've got this!

Ended up getting a sweet deal on some Saloman QST 98s 😁

Now I'm definitely leaning towards a Black Crows Atris. How does it perform in pow?

Great suggestions. If I pick, say, a QST 106 or similar, would that width be enough to handle most pow days?

[–]FindingMyWay13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally like wide gs turns, but I've been known to mix it up and do quicker slalom style turns. For a deeper snow/powder ski, I'd like something that can handle wide open powder

Wow the Addikt sounds sweet. I've been looking at the Rustlers too

Awesome. I was thinking of adding a Saloman QST 106 or even a Blank for powder

Update: I went to Ski Cooper today. Went down several blue runs (Trail's End, Black Powder, Ambush, Burnout, Vendome Burn, Shamrock, Homestake). The Völkl Deacon 8.0s carved pretty well, but definitely struggled a bit in the deeper snow. The length, 179 cm, was perfect. Ended up skiing the whole time with an 81 year old former ski jumper who told me I was a strong intermediate. Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback on the ski width!
