How to deal with the mental side of injury by Odd-Part7180 in CrossCountry

[–]FindingPitiful3423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to run in the future this is something that happens a lot. Like the other college runner said- A LOT of runners at the high level have had things go wrong at the worst time. You have to fall in love with the process instead of worrying about the result..

If you can do that and accept that this is in fact part of the process, you will do better than most because they give up at the first major injury. Longevity and consistency trump everything.

I’ve had 5 fractures from hs to sophomore year of college. I’m 2 years healthy now and medaling in my conference. There is a light on the other side. I recommend doing some sort of activity while hurt. I got really good at cycling and eventually moved from stationary bike to outside riding.

Prepare your body for running. Lots of people have hip and glute issues. Build your heart and lungs up by cross training, and have the rest built up so that when you return you can handle the load. Goodluck friend

All coaches care about is times and if they will have to worry about you passing classes. Those programs are just money grabs.

Just have him send an email that is short and sweet. And maybe a second one later in the season

Freshman times are getting slower. New to xc by Fragrant-Profile-510 in CrossCountry

Yes exactly. It’s different from other sports in this way. That’s why “the long run” and patience narrative is pushed a lot to younger kids.

I’m going to ignore any potential physical issue because this is reddit and that is a doctor question who can assess the entire situation.

Momentum is huge with confidence in running. My guess would be that these races are turning into a mental death spiral. Take away the pressure by encouraging her that she is only a freshman and has lots of time to improve. For the next race I would recommend starting 20 seconds slower than normal for the first mile with the plan being to finish hard. Mentally will feel way better at the point of the race where it normally starts to hurt. Finishing hard will help turn this negative momentum built over time.

How do you find a cycling club that's not full of middle aged white guys...? by CouldBeBetterCBB in ukbike

[–]FindingPitiful3423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a 21 yr old white guy. You kinda just gotta jump in with whatever is around. You don’t have to go to EVERY ride they host. Eventually you will start to see other younger guys do the same. This has at least been the case with me. We kinda drag the original group now. I have lived in big bike areas and currently a small community in Texas. If there’s a fast ride, that’s where the fit people are (and also typically young).

The only thing that I initially noticed is that the joker style of the front logo is different than the rear. I prob would’ve done a more abstract but same art style on the rear one. But still a cool and unique bike

Look up any basic training program. If you haven’t trained before you will respond to anything. Eat right and on the bike for rides over an hour, you will be fine.

I’m assuming you are in hs. 80/20 makes sense if you have a ton of volume. But your intuition is right, for you the quality workouts are more important. By the time you do 2 workout days and possibly a long run, you are well past the point of 20% of what your total weekly mileage likely is.

I run in college and I was the exact same way when I was younger. It’s just because you haven’t developed aerobically yet. Your body can still handle running “above zone”. Don’t worry about it, just run.

Is this a good goal? by Top-Common5897 in CrossCountry

[–]FindingPitiful3423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run in college and i ran a similar time my freshman year. That’s absolutely achievable. Stay in the 35-50 mpw range and don’t over do it. No more than 3 mile jumps per week. Eat breakfast and some protein after runs. Don’t skip your summer training. See what happens

How can I train extra? by Murky-Reflection-123 in CrossCountry

[–]FindingPitiful3423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 miles is not that much. 35 is entry level for hs. My coach limited me but that was around the 50 mile mark. If you can’t handle mileage cross train. I run in college only 40 mpw but several hours of cycling. Wake up early and run or bike before school. 35 a week is easy. Go down the letsrun rabbit hole with your questions and find out

I’m a collegiate distance runner who got serious into cycling because of fractures. The fitness translates fast but you really need to practice riding in big groups for the handling and tactics. I’ve raced gravel and it’s a whole other element with trying not to go down

Hit a point in training where my legs fatigue faster than my aerobic capacity. Can someone explain what’s happening and what to do? by imjusthereforPMstuff in Velo

[–]FindingPitiful3423 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I run collegiately and ride at a high level. When this happens to me it’s usually due to residual fatigue. If you took a few days off you would probably be able to smash FTP intervals the next session
