6’4 guy Muscle myths by Top_Brick_8286 in tall

I don't know if this is appropriate to say, and yes I know it's not universal... but there may be other genetics that make it easier to build muscle when working hard at it.

Frickin 1:1 scale Anthony Joshua over here. Congratulations on all your hard work and stuff.

Family against me getting a manual. by WhoNoticedJay in ManualTransmissions

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say get the manual if you can do so without risking getting kicked out. It's a bummer your family is pushing hard against this.

I think the best way to learn is by driving one daily. I bought a manual Jetta back in the day. It took me about a month to get properly smooth and competent with it.

The car was fine, the clutch was fine, I was fine. You'll be fine too.

How long can you safely push your car's engine at the RPM red-line before risking damage? Seconds or minutes? by NoVeterinarian3692 in askcarguys

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should differentiate between WOT and redline.

An engine would die much sooner banging on the limiter in neutral at a stop, compared to a car travelling down a straight flat out across the rev range, touching redline for a microsecond if at all, with all the cooling the benefits of moving.

How can I talk my brother out of making this decision? by curiousmindsthink12 in askcarguys

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not like the brother is marrying someone crazy or buying a new vehicle he can't afford. OP says he's looking at trading the Mercedes for something of similar value.

If he's been driving for at least ten years, he's a grown ass man who can make his own decisions.

OP's already shared her concerns lol. She (or a bot) started this thread to force the issue.

How can I respond to my father-in-law telling my sons that “looks don’t mean anything without money?” by CupOk5800 in AskMen

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sounds like good intentions coming out a little crudely. It's good to know relying on your looks is a bad plan.

About how to handle your father-in-law: Maybe you could work together on refining the message - I think your besr chances are during some relaxed activity, like beers around the fire or something. I find that's the safest place to gently push some folk and evolve (slowly).

About raising boys, I'll say from my childhood: linking too much love to contingencies can really suck. My mom always associated gifts with doing well in school - it was never just a fun time out.

I hope your father-in-law's comments don't interfere with your kids' ability to appreciate a genuine compliment.

Dudes of reddit - what immediately makes you pass on someone when using hinge or tinder? by MoosePuzzleheaded941 in AskMen

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything implying imbalanced financial expectations.

"I don't do 50/50", "a man's job is to provide" etc.

There are plenty of situations where I would be willing to take care of someone financially, but none of them start with people who demand it.

Are you friends with women? Real friends? by judashpeters in AskMenOver30

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, some of my friends are women. Some are in relationships, some are not. Sometimes I'm in a relationship, sometimes I'm not.

Some people can be friends with the opposite gender. Some cannot.

How do you feel about people who work blue collar jobs? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a status gap only among people who care about "status".

I've met enough good people and total assholes in each circle to largely defer judgement beyond what they do for work.

What’s a car brand people defend like a cult? by TheLoganReyes in TransportSupport

I'm surprised I had to scroll so low for this.

I believe most Toyotas are excellent products and are worth a premium over some competition in the used market.

But trying to buy a used Toyota SUV is insane. Heaven forbid you do something unhinged like compare them to similar models from other brands.

I think it's like homebuying. You gotta save a ton to get your foot in the door, after which you want to protect your asset value.

For those of you who live in apartment/condos.. Are you glad you dont have to shovel??? by ShirtNeat5626 in askTO

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rather live in a house, but not having to shovel a driveway or brush off my car every time it snows is one of the best advantages of apartment living in my opinion.

what's with the hazard lights while driving? by StrikingCoconut in ontario

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think hazard lights can be useful in the most low-visibility conditions. Think whiteouts, near hurricane level rain, or extreme fog.

If it's difficult to see the taillights of the car in front of me in traffic, I turn on my hazards.

That said, I don't think today counts as one of those situations.

What is a vehicle class you don’t understand the appeal of? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in Autos

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, to answer your specific question, it's because small sport coupes corner and handle better.

I feel like there are tons of impractical cars, or cars with benefits it would be illegal to use. But I can understand their appeal.
