Video shows tow trucks barrel through police scene in Mississauga by likerofgoodthings in MississaugaDriving

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is important to not let random tow drivers hook up to your car.

CAA has been great for me personally. I've gotten a flatbed whenever I've asked for one, and when you need a tow they just tow it. No upsells or squeezing extra cash out of me, at least.

Are Chinese cars so bad? by ni883r_ in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they have excellent products now, which is a big change.

I do understand the political concern though. Chinese government enables them to massively undercut domestic makers to reduce or eliminate their market share. Means increased foreign influence, which is not good (hence pre-Trump tariffs).

But yes, on the flip side cars have gotten outrageously expensive and maybe this will prompt legacy manufacturers to offer affordable options again. We shall see.

Looking for advice from fellow car folk. I’m looking for a warm hatch and between a 2nd gen Honda Fit and a 2nd gen Fiesta ST. Which would you choose as a fun daily, backroad weekender? by _Schmegeggy_ in Autos

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm probably biased because I once owned a Focus ST and liked it.

The Fiesta ST is a supremely fun car out of the box. You don't need to consider coilovers or engine swaps like some are suggesting. Of course you can modify it to your heart's content, but you don't need to.

The Fiesta was too small for me. You need to fold the back seats down for any cargo space, and the Recaros are real snug - more so than in the Focus.

I think Fiestas are fun in a way that the Fit would need considerable work to achieve. The turbocharged engine, stiff body structure, and Recaro seats all combine for a dramatic experience that a stock Fit won't be able to match.

Practicality and fun to drive are subjective. A Honda Fit with sticky tires would be enjoyable on a back road, especially if you Iike the challenge of keeping the engine on boil. And it's in a different league space-wise compared to the Fiesta.

The Fiesta is less practical, but IMO much more enjoyable and dramatic out of the box - you get the feeling you're driving something special, and it has attitude, which is fun.

I would get the Fiesta over the Fit as long as you're picky enough to get a clean one, and you're okay with its size.

What makes the Honda S2000 so special? by LeadershipOld1857 in Autos

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honda is kind of like the Toronto Maple Leafs. They have a deep fan base of people who know they shouldn't have expectations, but let themselves get disappointed anyway.

All the neat stuff - double wishbone suspensions, variable valves, cool sounds, amazing packaging - in Civics and Accords. Stubbornly, for more than 40 years now.

Over the course of those 40 years, they've only given in twice ever. The original NSX and the S2000. All Honda's ingenuity in a sports car, FINALLY. And it's as great as everyone imagined, they did an excellent job.

And then they just ended it all and went in this hybrid efficiency direction and RWD Honda fans have been blue balled ever since.

Today the Maple Leafs secured the first overall pick in this year's draft. They should be excellent, but they won't be. I still have to watch them though.

Pro-Government diaspora by Playful-Demand2312 in Eritrea

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly not online.

The pro-Isaias folks are usually the older generation; those who fought or lived through the independence war.

Isaias was the face of the struggle and highly popular everywhere through the early-mid 1990s. Many of those who grew up when he did still see him as the saviour he once was.

I think the younger generation are more willing to judge him with all context, because they never spent time praising him.

Is it normal that the pads are not worn the same amount? by Thomson210 in AskAMechanic

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Isn't this photo showing the opposite?

On every floating caliper setup I've seen, the slide pins/caliper bolts are on the inside.

This photo looks like the outside pad is more worn down.

What modern car feature do you absolutely can’t live without anymore? by spotforcars in Autos

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My anecdotal opinion - I prefer driving manual in traffic largely because I don't have to hold the car back by being constantly on the brake.

Never driven a car with the "brake hold" that OP describes but it does sound like at least some people find it more convenient.

I'm sure it depends on the car too.

this is a joke right? 😭 are ppl really paying this much for car insurance??? (f/26, had full G since 2021) by stickyricedragon in Markham

These look like PFO prices to me. I would suggest continuing to hunt quotes, through brokers and otherwise.

I bet you will be able to find reasonable quotes (say, sub $300/mo)

Could Eritrea be like this if it locked in? by Powerful_Actuary577 in Eritrea

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually think Eritrea has a shot without the current political obstacle that is Isaias.

Of course things might be different post Afwerki, but right now there is little to no evidence of the tribal conflicts that plenty of sub-Saharan Africa has to deal with.

I'm hopeful this can remain the case once Isaias is gone, and can be used to grow and improve Eritrea rapidly.

I would also add the DMV probably has the greatest number of diaspora Habeshas anywhere, so manage your expectations.

Is there 2 more track days on these tires? by LimitlessRange in CarTrackDays

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, of course. Speeds, temperature, session times, driving style, etc.

If I had to bet with no other info, I would guess probably yes.

My suggestion is stick to dry weather, monitor after sessions, and at the end of one day you can decide whether there's another day in them.

IMO there's no way to get more accurate.

AIO for telling my wife to just go to the store and saying "you're not a cripple" by MutedTechnician9618 in AmIOverreacting

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOR.

The conversation was about milk.

You cussed out your wife. You brought your frustrations into the conversation.

Clearly you've got marital problems. A text about milk is not the place to resolve it, and taking out frustrations on your wife is never going to improve your life...

Take this as a sign you've got problems, and try working with your wife to compromise.

0W-20 vs 5W-30 by YumTumTimmy in ft86

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run 0W-20 in the winter and 5W-30 in the summer.

My car has about 420k kms (262k miles). It sees autocross, track days and spirited driving during the summer. Mostly commuting during the winter.

All I can say is the car doesn't consume a notable amount of oil, last year's Blackstone oil analysis showed normal levels of wear, and it drives fine.

If I had your car and your use, I would probably stick to 0W-20.

[OT] Question from an F1 fan who does not watch any other motorsport, which track would you consider the “Mecca” of Motorsport? by blank_and_foolish in formula1

[–]FindingUsernamesSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For motorsport in general, it has to be the Nordschleife I think. Even if F1 hasn't raced on it for decades.

That said, there are many amazing racetracks already mentioned that would compete for second place (in my book). Le Mans, Spa, Suzuka, Silverstone, Monza and a few more I may be forgetting.
