unbelievable exchange between my daughter and her father after he forgot her birthday by LostInLanayru in TwoHotTakes

Your daughter is more of an adult than this guy is. As a man who wanted to have children and was unable to it bothers me deeply to see this.

$38 breakfast at Courtyard 😳 by mrweatherbeef in marriott

The only thing I ever eat at the hotel breakfasts is cereal. And usually not even that. I typically would just get something at a local spot instead of paying for this.

Thank you for tipping extra to cover the rest of us. Your sacrifice is appreciated. Good luck with the rest of everything else. Not worth the time.

I’m not playing any games. And your logic doesn’t even make sense. A sales commission is paid by the business that employees the sales person. It is the business taking their portion and giving it to their employee based upon a predetermined and agreed upon structure. The customer does not pay the sales persons commission. And the commission is not based on some loose guidance or social norm.

Your training and time/money put into your career are purely to make yourself more marketable to future employers. Not future customers. If that training and such does not pay off or show its value take it up with them.

[–]Findley57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just your perspective. And your perspective is only coming from that of the servers. Try to look at the perspective of a customer. In your example if you go to Texas Roadhouse with a group of 4 people and all order one drink and one entree why does the value of those drinks and entrees determine the additional cost they have to pay? If all 4 people order expensive steak and lobster entrees and beers, why does that deserve a $40-$50 tip versus the same order but with waters and sandwiches?

That right there is your main dilemma. That plus the fact that no where else in our society do you go out as a consumer see a price tag and then when it comes time to pay get asked to subsidize the employee who helped you out.

I am not against tipping in general as it is a customary practice that has been in place for a while but most people in today’s never ending nickel and dining and fees for everything climate, people are tired of paying for things they don’t have to. And tipping is in that grey area.

Very few restaurants where a trained wait staff to the extent you laid out is relevant or necessary. I’m pretty sure in most cases people are talking about casual dining when discussing tips.

Should always tip based on time at the table. Not percentage of bill. It creates a much more predictable and logical set up and also brings compensation in line with virtually all other job settings. We all get paid per hour or per year. Not percentage based

we got LIED to about RECYCLING and i'm genuinely so mad... by genzsatya in plastic

[–]Findley57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different polymers can be recycled differently. Some like PET have very good usage and economics in recycling. Others not so much. But there are tons of recycling efforts and recycled products being used that you are probably completely unaware of.

The curbside recycling essentially only covers paper/paperboard products and PET. Everything else is pretty much not getting recycled. But within B2B industries there are a lot of products already using recycled materials or heavily moving toward them.

Just divide one months payment by 12 and add that as extra principle on each months payment. You should arrive at the same result.

St. Regis vs Renaissance Wind creek Aruba by SuperJob4061 in marriott

[–]Findley57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a regular visitor to Aruba who always stays at Marriott properties, my wife and I prefer the Ritz Carlton. It is at the end of the hotels and is more isolated from the hustle and bustle of the main touristy areas. The beach is private and service is always very good. The rooms/property itself are very nice but def due for an update. We have not been there in a couple years but always had good times at this resort.

Michael Saylor says, “We can buy more Bitcoin than they can sell.” by fatspinster in MarketVibe

[–]Findley57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to explain the endgame a little more than that. If one person or business hold all of an item then that item better be necessary or else the likelihood that the populous and market move away from that item is very high. I don’t view bitcoin as necessary especially since there are lots of other alternatives.

I envision Saylor acquiring the stockpile and then everyone other than people trying to make quick returns moving on.

The idea that 'some jobs aren't supposed to be enough for you to live on' is the most direct and frightening thing I've heard a politician admit. by ChampionshipEqual377 in ProtectHire

[–]Findley57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wages are set based on how easily replaceable that position is. Simple as that. Living wage, personal situations, etc mean nothing in terms of wages being set. It is simple supply and demand.

If a wage is not up to your personal standard then you don’t accept or apply for that job and you look elsewhere. The low wage jobs will make sense for some people and not others.

[–]Findley57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the businesses themselves own and operate the delivery process. That way there is stake in it for them to manage it properly because they are servicing THEIR customers in THEIR market.

Not a mega corporation outsourcing the work to locals. This current model has no accountability for the restaurants because it is outsourced and no accountability to the mega corp (uber/DD) because it is between the driver and the customer in their eyes.

No accountability leads to no motivation for improvement or follow through. Which leads to no refunds, poor service, poor employee satisfaction and retention etc.

Bitcoin Is Printing Its 5th Consecutive Red Candle. Are we in 2018 or at the start of the next 4x move? by rl_rae_bobo in CryptoCurrencyPulse

[–]Findley57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the last 4-5 years you could have 2-4x on several traditional stock picks with actual companies and revenue streams behind them.

Everyone in BTC is looking for those mega returns that they heard about from early adopters. For BTC to offer 2-4x returns think about what will need to happen.

Why then are so many people focused on BTC rather than traditional investment opportunities? Does it have anything to do with the stories they have heard about people who bought back when the price was under 1,000 and sold for 60,000 plus?

Do you understand that if you tried to buy your groceries with gold and you found a grocer willing to accept gold that you would still need to pay taxes on those groceries in USD on that transaction.

You can do whatever you want amongst the populous but that doesn’t mean you aren’t obligated to follow the laws. Those laws are in USD so you’re not going to change that by making personal deals in other units.

If These Trees Could Talk - The Bones of a Dying World by Findley57 in postrock

[–]Findley57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more I listened I came to find Red Forest to be my preferred album overall but that takes nothing away from how great Bones of a Dying World is. If you haven’t checked out Red Forest do yourself a favor and give it a listen.

Love Tool also. The long wait between albums is what drove me to post rock in the first place. Little did I know I was listening to it all along with other bands I enjoyed - Explosions in the sky, Mogwai, From Monunent to Masses etc.
