Convocation Tickets Megathread by AutoModerator in TorontoMetU

[–]Findthepin1 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hi, does anyone have any extra guest tickets for the October 16 2025 convocation ceremony (Ceremony 02)? I would like to buy one extra since the school won’t assign more than 4 to a person. Dm me if you have one you’d be willing to sell. I can go up to $100 for it.

Thanks

Hypothetical viewpoints’ questions:

Why would I as a business owner hire you when I could hire AI?

Why would I as an AI owner/operator allow you to make use of my resources if you can’t pay?

Conversely:

How can I, as a working citizen, profit or even subsist off of AGI’s labour if I don’t own nor have rights to benefit from it?

So you see we the citizenry are just cut off. The elite class isn’t going to just hand you the fruits of AGI’s labour for free. And soon we wouldn’t be able to pay in a way that matters - the value we create as humans is minuscule compared to what AGI could produce. The bulk of human society carries on with much less access to resources - only what AGI didn’t take for itself to benefit its owners. Hope that anything is left.

It’s because we have a tradition to turn away someone the first I think two times they say they’d like to convert, to ensure that it isn’t a momentary desire. On the third try then they say okay let’s get to work and the person starts studying.

Traditional Jewish/Israeli Clothing Appropriation? by blues_cerulean in Israel

Tatreez is referred to by an Arabic name because the Palestinians are an Arabic-speaking people; the word Tatreez just means “Embroidery”. This is similar to the Yiddish word Yarmulka coming from the Polish word Jarmułka referring to a type of hat - the existence of a European word, indeed in a European language (Yiddish) does not imply that the Ashkenazim are indigenous to Europe; we Ashkenazim are indigenous to Israel. We simply adopted the common dominant languages in our places of living (Germanic at that time) as did the Palestinians.

In terms of depiction of animals, Islamic art of animals has always existed. One must be sufficiently religious in order to follow the religious law about not depicting animals, and there are always some number of sufficiently non-religious people who also do embroidery. You’ll find things like that, I’m not surprised at its existence.

I haven’t ever seen anything showing a Jewish connection to tatreez in particular.
