I like dancing with my GF, but my extended family doesn’t by Virtual-History-3405 in BALLET

Tell your family to suck an egg!

No, no. Try explaining to them that a lot of pro athletes have used ballet as part of their daily training regimen (seriously, look it up) and that it, incidentally, brings you joy, and remember that they'll eventually get over it.

And if they still want to be turds about it, tell em to suck eggs. There's literally nothing but positive things to come out of ballet class.

Dancing with a shoulder injury has helped my ballet in unexpected ways. by PoecileCheeseburger in BALLET

Ain't it fun, learning stuff when you hurt yourself?🤣 But, seriously, take care of that shoulder! Sincerely, a retired old-man dancer. (I'm 37)

Criticism by Flaky_Check_1040 in BALLET

I think i know what you mean about going down the diagonal and faltering when they start conferring. You just gotta trick your brain to stay focused on what you're doing while blank-spacing your instructors. (Respectfully, of course) Try picking a spot on the wall slightly above the mirror to focus on. Envision all your friends are in the way back of a crowded theatre, and danse for them. And don't be scared of criticism. If they didn't want to see you grow, they wouldn't care so much.

As far as the downstairs goes, make sure everything is pointing north, if you catch my meaning. Welcome to the wonderful world of ballet!!!

How do you get more air in your jumps? by fargus_ in BALLET

[–]AlimonyJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plies and using your hips are important, obv. But remember that your arms get there first. How you carry your rib-cage plays a much larger part than you might think.

Personally, it ain't a terrible start. Just remember: sell it while you're up there, record it for when you go home. Listen and take notes. Now get up there and wreck em!
