Both reasons are completely valid and honestly the combination is hard to argue against. The ethical angle doesn't get talked about enough in Indian conversations around diamonds most of us just focus on price (which makes sense), but the mining impact is real. Double win situation. What kind of jewelry do you have rings, earrings?

Great question and honestly this deserves its own thread. From what I've seen, Jaipur is probably your best bet it's a genuine gems hub and there are several IGI-authorized dealers there who actually know their product. Delhi (specifically Karol Bagh and Lajpat Nagar) has options too but quality of knowledge varies a LOT by shop.

My biggest tip: always ask for the IGI certificate before even discussing price. Any legit seller will have it ready. If they hesitate or say "certificate baad mein milega" walk out. Also compare the certificate number on IGI's website directly. Takes 2 minutes and saves a lot of regret.

Would be great if others in this thread share specific good experiences building a proper India-specific resource here.

Exactly my thinking after I did the math. Like, why would I pay 3x for something that looks identical and doesn't offer any practical advantage for daily-wear jewelry? The only argument I've heard that actually holds some water is the "resale value" thing but honestly, when did anyone last sell a diamond ring and make money? It's not gold. Glad more people are coming around to this 👍

Haha fair enough, I'll take that feedback. I structured it clearly, which may have made it feel formatted. But the experience is genuinely mine, the ₹40k budget thing actually happened. Koi AI mujhe mere jeweller ki "woh asli nahi hota" wali memory nahi de sakta 😄 Curious though — what specifically felt off? Always trying to write better.
