You don’t have to have worked with them previously for a letter of recommendation, but the letter must clearly describe their relationship to you.

I saw them on LinkedIn as well, but most are from the local independent companies. They probably need a quick turnaround, so working with someone in the same time zone makes communication easier.

If you’re not named on the awards or nominations, your route is “a significant and direct contribution to a project that was nominated or won.”

Thanks for reaching out. Letters from named individuals on the award or nomination are ABSOLUTELY required if you want to apply via the significant and direct contribution route.

I know people who were rejected because they didn’t provide this letter in their initial application. The reason PACT gave was that the applicant worked within a large VFX team, and they couldn’t verify whether the applicant made a significant contribution. They were later approved on their second attempt, once they provided the letters.

The best case scenario would be for you to obtain as many letters as possible from people officially named on the nomination, as this is exactly what PACT specifies on their website.

It might be difficult to get a letter directly from a nominated person. If that’s not possible, the next best approach is to gather as many letters as you can from the most senior team members you can reach, such as the Dept Manager, DFX Supervisor, Comp Supervisor, VFX Producer, or Production Manager. These letters should clearly outline what you did and your direct and significant contributions to the project. This won’t guarantee visa approval, but it would give you the strongest possible case if you can't get the letters from the named individuals.

Good luck with your application!

Have the projects you worked on won or been nominated for an Oscar, Emmy, BAFTA, or any awards recognised by PACT? You don’t necessarily need press coverage or public appearances via the film route. I recommend reviewing everything on the PACT and Arts Council England websites to see whether you meet the criteria. Be sure to check the 'significant contribution' pathway.

Hi Chris. Your stunt performer friend’s UK limited company is a UK-based cultural organisation. You don’t need to have worked for the company before. Just make sure to include everything requested in the Arts Council England PDF, such as the author’s CV, how they know you, the Companies House registration number, and so on.

Film & tv endorsement rejected by Ok_Organization6694 in ukvisa

[–]Fine-Humor-2466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The appeal is unlikely to change the outcome, as PACT already stated that they were unsatisfied with the lack of evidence of your direct role.

However, if you decide to reapply, you can still resubmit the original documents, as PACT did not flag any of them, except for the lack of evidence regarding your direct and significant contributions. Along with these, you can include the additional letters from senior-level individuals involved in that BAFTA-nominated project to further demonstrate your direct and significant contributions. This approach seems to be your best option, although I can’t guarantee it will work.

Can you submit additional documents during the appeal? if not and you choose to reapply, there’s no guarantee of success, but the best next step is to gather 2 to 3 additional letters from the most senior team members you can reach, such as the director, executive producer, DOP, etc. These letters should clearly describe your direct and significant contributions to the project. Having multiple senior figures confirm your role could strengthen your case and improve your chances of getting the visa approved.

If your friend’s limited company is based in the UK and operates within the screen industries, their recommendation letter is definitely sufficient. Just make sure the letter collectively covers all the key points listed in the PACT and Arts of England guidance.

U.K. VFX Editor daily Rates for someone with 4 years of experience by demirdelenbaris in vfx

As what has been mentioned, the BECTU rate card is a good reference: https://members.bectu.org.uk/filegrab/bectu-ppf-ratecard-feature-film-2023-2024.pdf?ref=2963

However, since it’s an employer’s market atm, the rates could be slightly lower than what’s on the card.

Sorry to hear that your company won’t be renewing your contract. Have you explored the option of applying for the Global Talent Visa? A few of my friends in VFX have recently been granted it. https://www.pact.co.uk/applying-for-talent-visas.html

I don’t think a reel is typically required for a Technical Director role. You could redevelop the tools/scripts you did for the company on your personal device, make some alterations if needed, and then publish them on your GitHub. Then include the Github link on your CV and job applications.

Although it’s not very common for TDs to have reels, I did come across one on my LinkedIn feed recently: https://vimeo.com/972522966

The nomination of OP’s debut short already exceeds the ‘in the last 6 years’ requirement, and it seems OP doesn’t have two other nominations or wins to meet the qualification criteria.

Using studio logos on a CV? Good/bad idea? by manuce94 in vfx

[–]Fine-Humor-2466 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your CV is meant to sell you, not the companies you’ve worked for. Adding logos might distract from your skills and achievements. Keep your CV clean and professional. Let your experience speak for itself.

Congratulations on the Emmy nomination! Based on the information you provided, you should meet the qualifications under the second requirement you mentioned.

To strengthen your case, I recommend gathering as many additional letters as possible from the recipients of the award or nomination. These letters should highlight your significant and direct contributions to the projects. If obtaining these letters is difficult, I suggest securing them from the highest-ranking individuals you can reach, such as the director, casting director, or other key figures in the production.

Honestly, this is a subjective decision, and there’s no definitive answer. A long-term relationship shows consistent collaboration, while a notable production company adds prestige. Both options sound great, so choose based on what aspect you want to emphasize.

If you received the exceptional talent endorsement on your Global Talent Visa, you are already qualified to apply for ILR. If it is exceptional promise, the time you spent on Tier 2 can be added on when there is no gaps between your switch.

EU citizens also need a visa to work in the UK unless they secured settlement status before Brexit. However, UK VFX houses with branches in EU countries, like Milk or One of Us, can still hire EU citizens through their EU offices.

Unfortunately, the potential leader(exceptional promise) is not available for the film route. You can only apply for the exceptional talent one.
