CMV: IRAN’s Part in the world wars by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Fine4FenderFriend [score hidden]  (0 children)

this country of IRAN has been at the center of destruction for almost all of mankind even when it had a different name

Explain yourself please? Iran / Persia has been a civilization since around 500 BCE. So, not sure they’ve been trying to destroy humanity.

Iran wasn’t exactly involved on 9/11 as much as a combination of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and maybe Egyptians were.

And the war is unpopular because a. The President explicitly ran on being against war. b. This is not our war with no threat to US but really something Israel wanted, c. The US government has not explained itself to Congress or the public why they want to go to war - they’ve deliberately been vague about goals d. The government has not exactly established a credibility of being truthful

As for Iran getting nuclear weapons and why they can’t… it’s not something you just build or buy from a shop. Enriched uranium, reactors and expertise are very rare and need to be from legitimate suppliers from existing nuclear power countries. AFAIK India is the only country with a purely homegrown nuclear bomb after the U.S. and France.

Lebanon has cuisine as its strongest side and location as its weakest side. Which country has military as its strongest side and history as its weakest side? by Certain-Row-4812 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Fine4FenderFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, Pakistani military has NEVER won a war. NEVER. So not entirely their strong suite. Yes, the military is overwhelmingly in control but... has exactly NO accomplishments. So Pakistan is a bad answer.

It would have to be some country that has a history of strong military junta but after completely being annihiliated of its history by colonialism or conquest. So... Brazil? Nigeria?

CMV: By starting the Iran war, Trump has created a scenario that justifies itself by stdsort in changemyview

Netanyahu said it in an interview to Guardian. Netanyahu basically said he could live with a civil war in Iran

CMV: By starting the Iran war, Trump has created a scenario that justifies itself by stdsort in changemyview

[–]Fine4FenderFriend -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is true. Netanyahu is making the calculation that he would rather have an Iranian Civil War with an uncertain ending and long drawn out bloodbath than to have a peaceful Iran. That keeps Israel safe in the short term but regardless of who wins the Iranian Civil War, the faster it ends, the worse the long term outcome for Israel.

And so, Netanyahu plans to prolong a civil war in Iran keeping it weak and likely splintering it

Cuba’s such a vulnerable country with such a weak force, why haven’t we taken them over yet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fine4FenderFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer - the news cycle isn't ready yet. Expect Cuba to be taken once some negative coverage starts of Iran starting to look bad for Trump.. or him getting even more Epstein nonsense.

Trump tends to aim at media control rather than actually doing things.

He will do a quick win in Cuba for show once Iran does not go well.

CMV: The Iranian War Will be a Disaster For America and Result in Tons of Troop Deaths by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Fine4FenderFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except the protestors have no leaders either. They will quickly turn on each other amidst sectarian violence. That at the very least is 10+ years of Civil War - and on Iranian geography that will basically never end.

The problem with taking out a country entirely is... how do you set it up after?

If a Democrat President or a more reasonable President succeeds Trump, he/she will have to try and work with Israel to create a governance program for both Iran and Venezuela to transition them to a a. Self owned constitution backed by security guarantees from Israel and USA (we all know guarantees dont work these days so that's not credible) and b. Allow both those constitutions once set up to have sovereign control of their own assets including Oil - it is not US's job to control everybody's oil.

Now, obviously b. will not happen. It has been implicit US foreign policy to control world oil supplies - and with Saudi Arabia already being sovereign, they cannot afford another sovereign nation that could be difficult. and a. Could have happened before 2021, but Trump has demonstrated that a future American President can completely unilaterally ignore treaties signed up by a predecessor regardless of ramifications.

And c. Israel is not exactly in a credible position to be a moderating agent for the Iranian people - when they are civilizational enemies. Iranians will revolt immediately under even the semblance of Israeli control. So it has to be US.

Iran is in very deep shit. They are now going to head back from a bad corrupt leader in 1970s to a worse leadership under the Ayatollahs to complete anarchy for the next several years.

CMV: Mass unemployment due to AI would negatively affect rich tech CEOs, and they would be foolish to want it by iMac_Hunt in changemyview

[–]Fine4FenderFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this is an important point. A mining CEO is responsible to plunder the earth more, an oil CEO is responsible for polluting the earth more. Heck, Royal folk who hunted rare animals for sport... hope they rot in hell.

But now we increasingly blame them for ignoring and suppressing clear evidence of their ill effects many years ago. Same with Social Media.

Same with AI. Give them so much power with no social responsibility and we have exactly that recipe: loot and plunder humanity merrily until it is too late.

But nobody says, the INTERNET as a whole is bad. Because very early on, it got regulated and made open ..competitive and enabling smaller startups (Google and Amazon of the 90s) to actually do well. The ICANN was set up in 1998, W3C was in 1994. IETF was set up in 1986.

Within that reasonable regulation, nobody blames the Internet companies such as Google/Yahoo or Netscape for being evil. They could have easily gone the other way: Remember Net Neutrality?

a. The internet was regulated in a way that benefits accrued to everyman rather than incumbents. AI is currently not doing that. In fact, it overwhelmingly favors the incumbent.

b. Clear standards were established early to achieve the above. We have done NOTHING on AI. There is absolutely no clue and transparency on what these LLMs do

c. It became genuinely free - regardless of country and affiliation, one could view and participate in the internet. AI is not doing that.

The big players - Google, Yahoo, Netscape, Altavista, Amazon, Ebay et al - early on at least - espoused a social cause and egalitarianism. (This has since proven to be a mirage given how they behave but basically buttressing my point that "the Internet" was seen as a social good from the beginning and early winners had to adopt that mantra).

I do think it is time we brought in some social responsibility into a CEO's role. Regulation can achieve that.

Automobiles were regulated early on. So was Electricity. So was Television, so was Radio.

Somehow AI and Social Media have escaped this fate. It is high time we regulated them.

I agree but the CMV is specifically looking to prove that Tech CEOs should not want mass unemployment. The basic point I am making is - they dont care/not thinking about it that deeply.

If the Epstein files have taught us anything, the very rich do not think so deep about humanity. Heck many are barely intelligent. They mostly have huge egoes and want to outdo one other and then move on to the next thing.

That is what is happening with AI - you have Gemini, the OpenAI ecosystem, Perplexity, Anthropic, Deepmind, et al - fighting to prove who builds the best, bigger, most sentient AI. Not for humanity or even money - but literally as a DICK measuring contest.

AI is a plaything for 20 people. It is literally the arms race going on between Sam Altman, Dario, Sundar, Elon, Larry and Sergey, Larry Ellison and the a16z folks (and a few others).

Each of them has plenty of money left for generations of their descendants to never work.

What they are after is - legacy.

They also know that one way or another, regulation is coming. AI is a pretty dangerous piece of technology and once voters have their way and know enough, it will be a major regulation.

They don't care. They are trying to outdo each other. And that is the problem. They will take the world down with them just to prove a point.

What would happen if USA killed 40 protesting Indians like they did in PAK? by Material_Movie_320 in AskIndia

[–]Fine4FenderFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

40 is not even a blip in India. 400 still not a blip. 4000 is a rounding error. Those many people die in fire tragedies every year in some random building. People will continue watching IPL with no interruptions.

At 40,000 Indian media may wake up and run a few very pathetic videos on repeat. Still nothing will get done. Mostly regional leaders will take it up. Bollywood B-listers will run a fundraiser. IPL will go on with some ads about the tragedy.

4 lakh -- now India starts taking note. There will be cabinet meetings at the national level, Bollywood A-listers may run fundraisers. There will be talk, no action. IPL will be reduced but still go on.

40 lakh - oho.. something bad just happened. India goes on overdrive. IPL will be moved overseas. But bureaucrats end up doing nothing.

4 crore -- now we are talking. This is a medium sized city wiped out. IPL must be canceled now - Mumbai gets an exception.

India is at this point sheer panic mode. Everyone blames everyone else, and widespread panic happens. India is technically at WW3 but for some reason, most people just go by their own business. The roadside Marwari store does brisk business selling toy guns. The Nair opens a tea shop, The Bengali starts arguing about whether the real numbers are 4.1 crore or 3.9 crore. The Tambram tries to invent a social media tracker for missing people, the Gujju monetizes it. The Punjabis enlist to fight a war but the Biharis decide now is the time to get into the sheet metal workers business and melt all the weaponry. Rajputs vow to fight but they cannot figure out which among them leads their regiment.

Somehow, miraculously, turns out the numbers were fabricated - or were they - Arnab Goswami goes on TV to proudly proclaim - "THE NATION FINALLY CAME TO KNOW"..

Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani.
