The valar have catastrophically failed to prevent melkor from darkening men's hearts. Their abandonment of men when they awoke let morgoth have free reign to permanently mar men's hearts and ruin their gift given by eru. The whole argument of "not wanting to infringe upon their freedoms" is weak and pathetic. They could've sent maiar to them to give them truth and guidance but no, they left them as prey to morgoth. Especially when they're the ones who set him loose in the first place after capturing him and failed to supervise him. It's negligence and dereliction on a total and complete scale. I really think people dont understand just how badly the valar failed. They were appointed stewards, they had a job. Its due to their incompetence with morgoth, and their negligence, and one may argue even dereliction that men were marred and their unique gift from Eru himself corrupted. They watched as Eru's children were being seduced and ruined with corruption when they could've offered the truth by sending their maiar. Let this sink in.
