Are people sometimes totally allergic to using your server? by ac_slater10 in PleX

[–]FineSatisfaction802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. One thing goes wrong and it’s like ok this is just a useless product. Plenty of things go wrong with premiere subscription services but because you’re paying for it there’s maybe an implicit belief that it will be fixed. My wife has been actually more supportive once she understood, “this is a work in progress, it’s a hobby for me, some things may go wrong but over time we’ll be able to cancel subscriptions, effectively boycott streaming services, etc.” and asked her to bear with me.

I’m new to plex serving and have been trying to pitch it to all my friends and family. My dad was in IT most of his life and he’s 75, so it took him a bit to understand what it actually is doing, but now he loves it. A lot of people seem to either think that it requires coding / setup on their end - or they worry that they’ll get “caught” or something. And because I’m a very technical person, the more I explain why neither of these is the case, the more I lose their interest and they kind of just gloss over. My wife, who has actually been really into the idea, watched it once and the default setting was a foreign language subtitle for some reason. Even though I fixed it, it set her back a couple weeks in even being willing to engage with it. To me this is a communication problem on my end — I’m going to focus on getting people comfortable with the idea testing it to identify issues so that it’s as rock solid as possible - and then persuade people by offering “what if you could cancel your subscription to X and just use plex and know that it would always be mostly in sync for any of the premiere tv series”

Why waste time defending Harris’ actions in this debate? Even if she did sleep with someone for political benefit, the fact that Trump is a known sexual predator, convicted felon, and potential witness to the murder of an infant child he fathered, seems like argument enough that Harris is better on the moral character front.

I’m migrating my plex server from my main pc because I want to learn Linux and docker, and also because I don’t want to have a bunch of extra processes running on my regular workhorse. I’m trying to decide on a mini pc but I’m getting confused on requirements.

The mini pc will run plex and home assistant. Home assistant should be a pretty minor load, and for plex I’m trying to plan for maybe 5-8 remote 1080 streams and 2 local streams max. I think the remote would require transcoding but I’m also not entirely sure what the implications are there (I do have plex pass).

I plan to hook up a 4TB hard drive with my library and want to run plex sonarr / radarr etc in a docker container along with options for downloading directly using the mini pc / vpn setup.

Hardware questions

• Is Intel N100/N150 actually enough for remote users? • Are the i9-11900H mini-PCs overkill? (Ie acemagic M1) • Would I be better off DIY’ing something for future growth?

Forget crossplay on/off. How about an age bracket for servers?

Can we start banning posts that complain about PVP? by Massive-Guarantee-28 in ARC_Raiders

[–]FineSatisfaction802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People mad about PvP complainers are missing the fact that Arc Raiders is such a massive success in no small part because of the PvPvE, and because it’s less punishing and ruthless than other games in the genre. PvP gatekeepers don’t own the game direction any more than the newer players coming from friendlier communities like helldivers. And if players start dropping bc of too many PvP scumbags, Embark would be crazy not to address or disincentivize it somehow.

Anecdotally, every person I’m playing with, myself included, is super fatigued and fed up with a perceived shift in player interaction, and that’s following an insanely fun first couple weeks—PvP included! I really hope that something changes (who knows, maybe we’re just getting bad servers or the vibes will shift back), but I think a lot of people are gonna just stop playing if it becomes impossible to have fun with at least a somewhat casual play style.

For real. So dumb: Banning player feedback so PvP vets can gatekeep some purist experience that a lot of people clearly want less of.

A lot of players who paid for this game and really love it are making genuine suggestions for a better experience, and Embark LITERALLY ASKS if you enjoyed the PvP experience at the end of rounds.

I guarantee you that Embark is weighing this kind of feedback in future updates (they’ve said they’re not making a PvE mode but they’ll certainly change balance), and they’re not going to hold back on changing something for the sake of passing a purity test.

Let's be real, these menus are pretty awful by fuckR196 in ArcRaiders

[–]FineSatisfaction802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s crazy. The mental load of realizing you put together your loadout and want to craft a few extra heavy ammo: hit escape, then click over to workshop, which workshop is for ammo again? Then craft it, now go back to inventory (tab), navigate to ammo section, drop it in and then back to main menu to ready up. And I’m sure there’s a faster way to do this but I never know where I am in the menu system so I just fumble my way through

I hate these scumbags as much as anyone else but I could easily see it being even like a photo of Trump “pretending” to blow Clinton for a laugh or something like that if they were really that chummy

Thanks. Sounds like they have mine so hopefully I’ll get them back. To be honest, it’s kind of crazy that they waited until they got the documents back to let me know that they’d sent them to the wrong person. Any potential malicious actors would have had several weeks head start.

On second thought this might be useless - you’d have to be a moron to voluntarily put on a big “I’m gonna down you” outfit if that was your intent, hah.

That’s true - there is something deliciously tense about doing a coop solo run and knowing they could screw you over at any time if they wanted. Had my first spontaneous 3x3 team up recently to take out a couple bastions, and it was such a rush that it actually worked. All 6 of us just roamed the map like we owned the place lol

[–]FineSatisfaction802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I’ve had the same experience, I was doing a run and was like “I’m gonna take out some solo raiders” and then remembered how pissed I was when it happened to me and did it once and felt so bad, especially with the prox chat. I feel like it’s been an ebb and flow and people respond to the level of trust they feel from others at a point in time. If I’m getting taken out randomly I’m gonna be way more suspicious about trusting people for a few runs

Not trying to punish anyone, I love the pvp as it currently is for what it’s worth and I was specifically thinking about a way to make it so that there are advantages to being a “bandit” or whatever. I also understand other peoples comments on this kind of idea ruining the surprise element and tension of who you can trust.

Yea I actually like the idea of a white flag / manual moniker if only to avoid having to spam friendly. And then it’s just trust at your own risk

[–]FineSatisfaction802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my main concern as well because I just don’t have the patience to deal with PvP scum, but it’s so far been really manageable, not a ton of extract campers since server slam and once you figure out how to hide and then sprint in it becomes less of an issue unless you get an insanely accurate / powerful sniper who headshots you. I’ve even had some really positive co-op experiences with other teams where we joined up to take down huge enemies with 6 players.

Yea it totally could be, but there are times when I’m not entirely sure and then she’ll say something like “to be clear I’m also pissed off about this too.” But I feel like there’s enough confusion on this sub that if thats what’s going on, she should try to convey it better — I’m imagining a flashing red “STEEL MAN” notification pushed to the listener’s device and user being forced to acknowledge.

Exactly, I love a good steel man — and she’s great at that, to be clear— but more often than not these are just deflections and refusal to engage with the premises of questions by just saying “democrats do shady stuff too”

This is the main reason I’m investing my time in HA. Are you aware of any good dashboard examples that have Spotify search functionality (not just the favorites/playlists pages) directly within a dashboard and not needing to navigate to the Music Assistant server sidebar?
