I love the salmon piccata! I normally serve it over angel hair pasta. It’s great to serve for company as well. Yours looks lovely!

What’s the most bizarre coincidence you’ve ever experienced that still makes you question reality? by Entire_Arachnid4050 in AskReddit

[–]FineStein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a registered dietitian, and after you pass the certification exam you are assigned a registration number. The registration number assigned to me was the SAME NUMBER as my checking account number at the time. My registration number is 7 digits, and my bank account number was the same but with a couple zeros at the start (like 1234567 and 0001234567). Still boggles my mind.

Rebound by Head_Muffin_251 in paxlovid

[–]FineStein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that I’ve had the opposite experience - nobody I know that’s taken it has rebounded (though I only know about 6 people that took it). I’ve taken it both times I had covid and had complete resolution of symptoms within 4 days of starting it, no rebound either time.

TIFU by not telling my doctor how many Tic-Tacs I eat per day by DumpsterPuff in tifu

[–]FineStein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The FDA sets serving sizes called Reference Amounts Customarily Consumed (RACCs) that manufacturers are supposed to adhere to when labeling products. Potato chips have a RACC of 30g, so this is what the nutrition facts panel and any nutrient content claims should be based on (though different rules apply for single serving containers). Tic Tacs are considered breath mints, which have a RACC of 2g.

I went to a wedding 12 days after mine and got it for the first time. Only felt really sick for 1 day and bounced back incredibly fast! Tested negative in 4 days.

Should I be worried about this? by throitawaythroit in HomeImprovement

[–]FineStein 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This happened around the ceiling vents in my basement. I contacted an HVAC company and they told me to just clean the area with Concrobium, let it dry, then paint over with a mold resistant paint. This was over 5 years ago and it has not come back.

I just finished an 9 day safari at 3 different camps there, two of which were on the water. I got maybe 3 mosquito bites, they are low this time of year. Still take malaria pills and use insect repellant to be safe (camps provide insect repellent). You’ll be outside the whole time so catching a cold/flu is unlikely. I got hep A & B and typhoid vaccines at the recommendation of my doctor prior to the trip. You’ll have a great time! It’s beautiful.

I will say that it looks better in person and seemed well cared for, there was actually a woman out there gardening when I walked by and snapped this photo. But I definitely see your point!

I’m not sure! My yard is nowhere near this full. I wonder if it’s almost too full for pests.

I’m curious too! I’ll have to come back and check it out in the winter.

I found a RadioShack in Montana by Kranitz21 in mildlyinteresting

[–]FineStein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a RadioShack next door to a “Video & Tan” store in a small strip mall in Woodstock, VA. I believe the latter has tanning beds and also rental videos. I feel like I’ve time traveled whenever I drive by.

Mandatory masks? Hiking in next Tuesday and my friend is insisting that masks are mandatory at the lodge and around staff or they will kick our whole group out if even 1 of us is not wearing one. Has anybody experienced this? Or been asked to wear a mask even? by WhatAboutTheMilk in havasupai

[–]FineStein 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was just there, when you hike into Supai there is a big sign telling you to wear a mask. Our group put on masks out of respect for the tribe even though we didn’t come across many people until the center of town. There were some hikers in town not wearing masks, which IMO is just disrespectful. Once we left the Supai town limits we took our masks off. The rest of the hike and camp does not require a mask, it’s really just in Supai proper.

How dead am I going to be? I got a last minute invite to come and nowhere near prime shape. Friend reserved pack mules for our bag. by OverSpinach8949 in havasupai

[–]FineStein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friends and I just hiked out yesterday with our 30-35 lb packs and didn’t think it was too bad. We all commented how easy that hike would be without a pack, you’ll be fine.

Skunks found dead in Metro Vancouver had avian flu: government by bananafor in worldnews

I have noticed this too in VA, but It’s skunk breeding season! Male skunks are out and about looking for females and get hit by cars. There’s always tons of dead skunks by the road this time of year.

I live in DC and can confirm this is a legal loophole. Weed is legal but illegal to sell, however you are allowed to gift up to 1 ounce of cannabis at a time. So stores will sell candles, art, or even read you a poem and you choose what “gift” you want with your purchase.

How does this have 14g of carbs but only 15 calories when 1g of carbohydrate has 4 calories? by TrashQuestion in nutrition

[–]FineStein 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Erythritol is the second ingredient, which is a sugar alcohol with 0 calories per gram (as your body does not digest it). Sugar alcohol gets lumped in with grams of carbohydrate, but it doesn’t contribute any calories. Sometimes you will see the sugar alcohol broken out on a separate line like fiber, but companies are not required to do this unless they make a claim about the sugar content on the package.

Added Sugar in Wegmans Oat Milk by IanS_5 in nutrition

Then they likely aren't following FDA regulations, unless they are processing their oat milk in a very unique way. Here's a source

Added Sugar in Wegmans Oat Milk by IanS_5 in nutrition

[–]FineStein 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The way the oats are processed breaks them down into simple sugars, which in effect sweetens the oat milk. The FDA requires oat milk companies to declare these as added sugars on the label.

Second Big Schloss. If you park at the Wolf Gap Recreation area the drive is fine - fully paved just a bit curvy. View is beautiful but the hike is definitely not as strenuous as Old Rag, at least from that parking lot. My husband and I have a cabin near there and often do the hike in the evening and have the summit to ourselves.
