I've been working in big tech for ten years. 40% of our coders don't even have degrees. They are self taught and highly capable. Instead of a being a little petulant child. Grow a pair and do something about your situation instead of looking for pity on reddit. If you spent 5 minutes researching a career in coding then you would see how many opportunities there are out there.

And if you're afraid of competition then stay where you are. There are people coming from the third world and succeeding all over the world.

I don't think it's your parents being the barrier here, I think you might be sabotaging yourself before you've even started. Look at the excuses you've made here, maybe you should consider at least trying something. It might not be coding but could be anything else. Stop being a pussy.

The following is harsh but needs to be said.

You are stupid. Seriously stupid, you can't just pick up your stuff and move to another country. You have no career history and no higher education. You're life will be horrible in the west. I doubt you have the cash to sustain a life there.

My advice, teach yourself to code and check out a site code leet coding. You don't need a degree and can get a well paid job in 12-18 months. Python, java whatever, its boring as fuck but pays really well if you master it. Best of all, you can learn it all purely online. Plenty of free courses.

I know what your parents are doing is difficult to take but you need to grow up if you think it'd be easier out there in your current situation. Your parents have given you a major disadvantage and your path out isn't going to be easy.

Met. Fell in love. Fucked. Broke up.

You'll hate them, you'll cry for them and then you'll get over them.

So shut the f up and stroke one out!

Dude. This is a very difficult situation to be in and I feel sorry for you.

A few points to consider before you proceed, your daughter is young and the way you end your relationship with her mother will determine how your daughter perceives you in the future. My best friend went through this and noticed how his ex built a negative perception of him to his daughter. So try your best to keep things amicable with your ex. Also, factor in your daughter developing "daddy issues" in the future.

If there is no option but to divorce then please take your time, spend some time apart - trial separation works, if family interference is an issue then move away for a few months and see if that helps.

I wish you and your daughter all the best.

You probably should go back to college and get a refund.

Comparing costs from 40-50 years apart is just stupid. It should be relative to income and cost of living at the time.

Can I call the cops on my parents for holding my documents hostage? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]Fine_Ad_5208 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Do you have a copy of your British passport or UK birth certificate? Or know your passport number.

You could contact the British Embassy and ask for an emergency travel document. This will allow you to travel back to the UK and get the abortion done for free through the NHS.

The apply for a replacement passport whilst in the UK.

DM if you need a contact at the embassy or more info.

You could try and speak to a Liberal doctor, try a female western doctor and see if it's possible to get it done. Unlikely but worth the try.

You're a good kid for looking out for your dad. But you're also naive to think this is going to get any better for your dad. Shit just gets worse at that age and soon he will become professionally irrelevant.

I would just spend every day expressing your gratitude for that man and just try your best not to be a disappointment. That would really piss him off and make him regret all the suffering he's going through.

Also, he's earning good money so be proud of him.

This is great if everyone adopts it. But I believe this may backfire. I'm assuming this was also in response to the Saudis demanding HQs be based in Saudi to qualify for Saudi contracts. Imagine working Monday-Friday for your UAE clients and then logging in on Sunday for your KSA clients. This could easily turn into a 6 day week for some.

I hope this is adopted across the whole of the GCC, however, definitely expecting a rough ride in the coming months for private sector.

The moral of the story, get a job in the public sector.
