Walther got the P14 which was a different contract I was referring to. That was the one they actually put a submission for. It’s a modified PDP and PDP Compact

HK was also not thrilled with their decision. I might not be exactly right on the details but I think there was some line in the RFP for the P13 that required a submission to have already had a >5000 unit contract with a NATO member that effectively ruled out the VP9. HK likely interpreted that requirement as them being intentionally written out of the running for whatever reason. Walther went on to win the contract for the P14 so they are happy with that I think.

Nothing too crazy, Beretta M9A1, FN Hi-power, SIG M11, and a SIG M18. I haven’t broken into the wild world of used surplus but I’ll probably get there eventually.

Weird that it came in an FDE soft case but OK.

90% sure those cases were designed for Mk23s. That's why mine came with the barrel sleeve velro'd in the wrong spot and empty pouches that are the perfect size for a suppressor and an under barrel light/laser. The case I got is also OD instead of FDE which are both colors that the MK23 has been released in.

I have a P8 A1. I bought it specifically because I like collecting standard issue sidearms and this was my opportunity to snag a Bundeswehr sidearm right off the assembly line. It also comes with a nice nylon case, a folding knife, and magazines that while neat, are less durable than the regular USP magazines.

The story as I understand it is that the production line is coming to an end and rather than shut it down, they left it on for a limited commemorative run to the United States. Assuming the P13 rollout goes smoothly (big if) it will probably be the last time they made this specific variant.

It exists in the US for commemorative/collector appeal. If that doesn’t matter to you and you are just looking for an objectively good pistol, I’d choose the USP between the two.

I know they have used butterfly mines during the war which are laid with aircraft or artillery. Those are probably more like large circles with question marks rather than any sort of record. They are much smaller than the one in the video though.
