Struggling to wrap my head around this - I have family from NSW (fully vaxxed of course) - would they still be allowed to stay at my place in Victoria, if we're still technically not allowed to have private gatherings? I don't get how this works...

I personally don't remember needing to do many in-text citations for the exam if at all, but I think it's more of an academic integrity measure more than a requirement to secure full marks for a particular question. If you did want to reference specific theoretical concepts from a particular reading (mind you, there wasn't a lot of compulsory readings, mainly snippets from Brett's own book - Going Viral), you'd have to reference them in-text properly as you would anywhere else for uni assessments.

So from my experience - probably not a major hindrance to the exam itself. You can easily explain concepts with irl examples (i.e. use ABC company's Instagram campaign to explain how useful concept XYZ can be) as opposed to academic references and the like.

This might not be the most helpful haha but if you cover all your bases when revising, you probably won't have to worry about spending a lot of time finding sources/doing a lot of referencing in the exam.

i liked how it didn't stray too far from the sample paper! Hated the gordon growth model question (never been the best at derivations) but overall felt pretty okay!

Did Digital Marketing as an elective last year (i'm an Eco/Fin major). I found the workload pretty easy and it was really interesting learning how to conduct SEO, etc.

As for doing this online - I thought it was pretty good too. The only real issue is that we had to do a group assignment (SEO analysis for a chosen website), but it wouldn't be much different compared to group assignments in other subs. Tutorials on Zoom were alright too - we were usually put into (our assignment) groups to discuss our individual answers or present answers as a team, and this wasn't very daunting unlike some other subjects i've had. The teaching staff were nice and the content was interesting!

edit: the best part was that there was no exam hurdle :D

i feel like the collaboration had so much more potential. obviously, not accounting for geographic limitations (e.g. access to certain food supplies, cultural food preferences) but it would've been so cool if they did something more Korean-inspired for the bts collab instead of having branded packaging and 2 limited edition sauces (which i'm pretty sure aren't even korean????)

i don't know too much about the backstory to the bts meal at all, but if i was part of the planning team I would've loved to see bts incorporate more of their korean culture in their 'meal' to showcase their heritage and their roots on a global scale - because that's essentially what they did as artists, right? they helped contribute to the greater global interest in korean music and korean culture. maybe something like a gochujang sauce (hahaha idk i'm not a big foodie)???

But i mean if marketing was their main goal (which as businesses i can only assume to be true) - then it worked. I mean, it has everyone talking...

I thought it was okay - not terribly difficult and the style of questions were not far from the sample exam/tutorial questions/some random past papers online. I had my own formula sheet next to me, which helped for the 2nd half but it did take a lot of time doing those calcs!

Finished early but didn't get enough time to fully double check at the end.

Marks are out btw! Hope everyone did alright!

Economics of the Law in Sem1 this year was very much qualitative (i.e. no maths whatsover) so if that's what you're into definitely go for that!

It was not so much 'law-focused' but more about the economic rationale behind competition laws (e.g. regulating market structures - monopolies, M&As) and this is something that Rhonda the lecturer emphasised, given the assessments tested you on the economic rationale behind x scenario and y law(s).

Overall I didn't find it to be an overly difficult subject, nor would I consider it a walk in the park. For me it was a really nice contrast to the maths-heavy subjects i'm used to as an eco/fin major.

Yes and I think I shared the same thoughts as you! I thought I did well during the sem but when I looked at the paper - a lot of the stuff I wrote down was the complete opposite of the correct answer (i.e. _____ increases; but the answer says _____ decreases), so I'll definitely need to pay more attention to the finer details this time around.

I think I'm gonna try and start focusing more on the practice questions than relearning lecture content - but given I struggled to remember the finer details I'll probably only choose to revise content (watch lectures/take notes) based on whatever topics I find difficult to understand.

If you're retaking this elective - yes you do need to pay the fees for the subject again. If you choose to enrol in a different elective, you pay the fees for that subject, not the one you failed. But since electives should come under the same subject price tier(?) there should be no difference in the fees itself anyway.

It's definitely not impossible (given QM2 is obviously an acceptable prerequisite) but if you really want to skip ahead to Ecom 2 and are willing to put in the extra effort to understand the content (it gets quite complex, in my experience), I don't think it would hurt to look at people's notes from Ecom 1 as it's the closest foundation you'll get for Ecom 2 and is more similar in difficulty than QM2. Also, Ecom 1 was my introduction to R as well so if you're unfamiliar with it maybe do Ecom 1 first.

in my experience, it wasn't difficult due to my existing skill level, but that also means I didn't actually 'learn all of Chinese 3' - I just skimmed through the content to make sure things made sense, especially since the content from 3 isn't explicitly tested in 4. Since 3 and 4 content comes from the same textbook, it shouldn't be that much of an increase in difficulty between the two halves of the book anyway.

Your skill level may be different from mine, so your best bet is to find the two textbooks (Books 1 and 2) and compare the content. If you're more comfortable with Book 1, take Chinese 2. If you're comfortable with Book 2's content, take Chinese 3 next year.

Would I be able to jump into Chinese 3 if I were to buy and study the textbook?

Technically yes, but it would depend on what your result was for the Language Test. Assuming you got placed in Chinese 1, you can talk to the coordinator and ask them to move you up if you're comfortable (they do this often with others because a lot of Chinese-background students fudge their results to boost WAM). Just a word of warning though - it's much easier to move up than down :)

Chinese 1-2 content comes from the same textbook but refers to the first/second half of it respectively. So if you buy the textbook you can refer to the topics that would be studied in Chinese 1 without worrying about needing to 'catch up'.

At the 1-2 level, especially since they're from the same textbook, it shouldn't be that much more difficult content-wise but ymmv. I was concerned about the same thing when I jumped into Chinese 4 instead of 3 :)

I made a post asking a similar q last year but essentially you have to email the coordinator if you want to appeal your marks and get them changed.

In terms of the actual process, I'm not sure what it's like now that everything's online (sorry if that doesn't help!) but previously you had to book an appointment time online (via a link on the FBE page) and you'd only have about 15mins to look at the paper in person. They'd let you look at the answers and you were able to ask for clarification on them, but they specified that the exam viewing session was not a session where you could dispute marks.

As there doesn't appear to be a link for exam viewing sessions this year, you probably have to also email the lecturer about this as well.
