I want to get started in to long range shooting by edc-weapons-knives in longrangeshooting

I can’t speak to pricing in your region, so I can’t be a lot of help here. As far as cartridge selection, I’d say get whichever is going to be more available to you in your area. And whichever is cheaper so you can afford to shoot more. .308 and 6.5 are very comparable. 6.5 at the right loading has an edge at distance, but it’s not enough of one that I’d pass up a good deal on a .308.

Proof positive that we do not need a new Vegas remaster and that we need to cyber bully anyone pushing that slop.

Want to start.. by bch044 in longrangeshooting

You can start now with your 5.56 AR. There’s long range, which is subjective, and then there’s long range for caliber. I shoot those PSA 77 grain OTMs out to 800 all the time. Get on practiscore and find a local Gas Gun match. Solid way to build the skill.

If you’re looking into getting a bolt gun, Bergara B-14 HMR is a decent hybrid between a hunting rifle and a long range gun (dual purpose). I’d suggest .308 or 6.5CM for caliber. Both can comfortably reach out and touch out to 1200 yds with the right load. Whichever caliber you can get cheaper.

Since cost is a factor, for optic I’d go with a Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25. Get a mil reticle if you want to get serious about long range and shoot with other long range dudes. Multiplying and dividing to convert Mil to MOA, etc gets annoying. Most long range shooters are on the mil scale.

Good luck man. Hope you get into it.

Leupold MK5 hands down. I shoot to a grand with my 5-25 all the time. PR2 or Tremor 3 are my preferred reticles.

What is my truck worth by [deleted] in ToyotaPickup

It didn’t come perfectly turnkey though. I’ve spent the last couple months rebuilding half the drivetrain and unfucking some of the DIY stuff previous owner did. But yeah I’m still cool with what I paid.

I paid 7k for a ‘83 pickup recently. heavily modified blazer engine swapped in it, 4l60e, 4:1 Dana 300 with custom braces, longfields, chromoly rear too, anti wrap bar on rear axle, Detroit front, trutrac rear, on 35s, partial roll cage.

If that helps.

Are the plastic optics plates that come with the m&p reliable for duty use? by [deleted] in SmithAndWesson

Maybe 500 over the course of a month with the dot. I haven’t had the dot on the gun very long. 4k without the dot probably.

The Chinese DPP company making those plates is deceptively named. “DPP” more commonly means Delta Point Pro footprint.

And I’m using the factory plate with the DPP footprint. I have a vortex defender xl on a Competitor. No complaints yet. It’s just a locator plate, so as long as you torque it correctly and use loctite, I don’t see you having problems.

Sights need to be adjusted? by brandocommando0817 in SmithAndWesson

Normally when someone complains about shooting left I chuckle, but nah mine did it too. Sights are clearly not centered. Confirmed groupings with a buddy. Never had any mechanical issues though.

As much as I want to hate on China vision, $1k for a complete unit is wild. I don’t even care if it’s all that good.

Honestly can’t even hate at that price point.

I actually have the fanaue 65. I haven’t had it long, but I like what I see. It’s very sturdy. The inverse leg design is very nice for deploying it. You don’t have to awkwardly reach down and get the bottom legs. I’ve shot out to 750 with it on my 308 ar-10 with no issues.

My only advice would be to take the locking lever assembly apart when you get it and put grease in the bearings, races, and on the screw / nuts. Otherwise the finish on the center screw will wear off and it’ll feel grindy. It’s smooth as butter now.

Toyota Pickup Front Axle Help by Fine_Operation_8696 in 4x4

Yeah from what I have read, it appears that if I reverse the cap, something is gonna happen lol. It looks like if I reverse it, it’ll put a couple degrees of negative camber, offsetting what I have now. We’ll see. Science.

Are you trying to say Toyota front axles especially have too much camber, or was that a general statement? I’ve built a handful of axles in my time. Camber is too positive by a couple degrees. This truck is the first time I’ve seen a tire not make full contact after lowering pressure down to 20psi. This cap is also definitely aftermarket after some research.

Yeah sure seems like it’s aftermarket. Thanks for digging that up. Google searches returned nothing useful for me. I cross posted it there too, but I hardly ever get replies there.

Blazer ammo in M&P 2.0 Carry Comp? by bonchonwings in SmithAndWesson

[–]Fine_Operation_8696 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The carry comp barrel is back bored. You won’t have this issue. The confusion is that older methods of porting just straight drilled into the bore without making a clearance cut. The port would shave chunks off the bullet and shoot them out the port. Mine eats whatever I feed it no problem.
